Guardsmen May Add New Ribbon To Decorations
Long and faithful service of California National Guardsmen during World War II was acknowledged with the first awards of this state's Federal Service Ribbon at the opening of the campaign to bring the postwar National Guard to its full peacetime strength.
Authorized by act of the California Legislature in its last session, the Federal Service Ribbon is the first state award to be granted the California National Guard since establishment of a series of state decorations in 1935.
The Federal Service Ribbon is blue with five vertical gold stripes, centered, to commemorate the five years of World War II service of this state's National Guard. The ribbon is worn immediately after all federal decorations and service ribbons.
It is awarded to present and former California National Guardsmen who entered federal service as a member of the California National Guard prior to December 7, 1941, and who completed 12 months or more of honorable service in the armed forces of the United States between September 15, 1940 and September 16, 1945.
Present members of the National Guard may obtain the ribbon by application to their unit commander. Former Guardsmen who are eligible may apply at their local National Guard armory or to the office of the Adjutant General, 1215 16th street, Sacramento,

These developments are dramatic ... but most of our expansion program must be pushed with "everyday" things like this post-hole digger ... wires and cables and switchboards. Our construction program of $200,000,000 this year brings us closer to our goal: the finest telephone service for the West.
Working Dollars ... Millions of dollars needed to build buildings any new equipment to meet the demand for more telephones and service do not come from telephone bills. New dollars come from people who are willing to put their savings into the business. We must earn enough to attract these new working dollars.
