Vary-McKelvey Nuptials Read In Chapel Sunday
Sanctuary of the indoor chapel of Capilla de San Antonio was the scene for the wedding of Mrs. Zurle Vary of 520 South Dickel street, Anaheim, and H. O. McKelvey of Lynwood, California, Sunday evening at 7 o'clock, with Rev. Stanley Frederick George, pastor of the Presbyterian church of San Bernardino, former pastor of the First Presbyterian church of this city, officiating for the single-ring ceremony.
The bride was charming in a dusty rose gown accented with long blue gloves. Traditional sentiment was found in a treasured lace handkerchief borrowed from a close friend and a diamond and onyx ring.
Given in marriage by her son, Gail Vary, the bride carried a shower bouquet of gardenias and bouvardia blended with white satin ribbon.
The couple plighted their troth before an altar arranged with tall baskets of white gladioli and flanked by lighted cathedral candelabra.
Preceding the ceremony, Mrs. Juanita Ross, nuptial soloist, sang Immediately following the ceremony, the reception was held in the garden of the wedding chapel, with Mrs. Minnie Stere, close friend of the bride, presiding at the guest book and gifts assisted by Miss Kathleen McKelvey, daughter of the groom. Mesdames Muriel Faklert and Rosalie Williams served punch and the wedding cake after the newlyweds cut and shared the first piece.
Mr. and Mrs. McKelvey left for a week's honeymoon trip to Santa Catalina Island and other resorts after the reception. For traveling the bride chose a black moire suit worn with black and chartreuse accessories and her bridal gardenia corsage.
Until her marriage to McKelvey, the bride was associated with Masterson's Apparel Shop of Anaheim. Her bridegroom is an interior decorator affiliated with Seaside Industries, Los Angeles.
Holiday Stage Finale, 'The Glass Menagerie'
Grand finale to Holiday Stage's series of plays is its production of Tennessee Williams' "The Glass Menagerie" now being applauded nightly in the Tustin high school professional summer stock company.
The author, Williams, has written ten into the play a moving, mespheric effect that lingers with the spectator long after he leaves the theatre.
Honors came to Anaheim when the launching of the first series of plays to be presented by a professional group of Hollywood and Broadway personalities in Oran County. Miss Barbara Cross, viscious blond actress from this city successfully portrayed several important roles in such productions as "Three Men on a Horse" and "The Milky Way," both starring Stirling Holloway; "Night Fall" in which she was the seeding girl, and "Royal Family."
Norman Mennes is the art director; Barry McGee, the technical director, and May Rose Burnum, production coordinator.
Attend Youth Center Confab In San Diego
Anaheim was well represented at the Youth Center of southern California conference held in Boa Park, San Diego, Friday and Saturday. Those attending from this city included Richard Glow director of the local Teen-A-Canteen; Deme Lopez and Frank Ybar, representing the Mexican-American Movement; Glenn Dishay and Don Ames, delegates to the high school youth group at Auggie Huesca, junior high school representative.
Also present from Anaheim were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mivin. She is the treasurer of southern California Youth Center organization.
A varied program outlines youth activities and many panel discussions were featured during the two-day session.

Kopfer Home Scene Of Gala Shower
A miscellaneous shower honoring Miss Jean Richardson, of National City, formerly of Anaheim; bride-elect of Leslie Tigh, also National City, was given by Maunt and cousin, Mrs. Ross Kopfer and Mrs. Earl Nellesson of Anaheim in the Kopfer home, 37 East Commonwealth avenue, Fuerton, Wednesday evening of last week.
Bride's bingo was played with prizes going to Mrs. Paul Domenez of Anaheim, Mrs. Orvine Hurd and Mrs. J. H. Anderson both of Santa Ana.
Beneath abridal umbrella deceded with satin ribbons, the honee's many attractive and user-friendly presents were heaped on the gable.
Delectable refreshments of individual wedding bell cakes, cream, coffee and punch were served.
An arrangement of white carrion tations, asters and sweet peas, grazed the mantel flanked by white tapers in crystal holders.
Miss Richardson is the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. R. D. Richardson. He is the pastor of the Community church of National City and formerly officiated in the Community church in Silva Acres, south of Garden Grove.

L. A. Grand Opera Performance to Be Here Sept. 6
In its premier performance in Anaheim, the Los Angeles Civile Grand Opera Association will present a double bill of "Cavalleria Rusticana" and "Pagliacci" in the high school auditorium Saturday night, Sept. 6, at 8 o'clock with Maestro M. Campanella, general director, staging the popular operas of Mascagni and Leoncavallo in their entirety with chorus, orchestra, costumes and scenery.
Conducting both operas will be Maestro Francisco Camacho Vega of Palacio de Bellas Artes, Mexico, and XEW radio station, Mexico City and his assistant Elmer Bromel, choral master.
The "Cavalleria Rusticana" cast will include Norma Locke as "Santuzza"; Michaele Foster as "Turiddu"; Enrico Porta, "Alfio"; Estelle Miller, "Lola," and Rita Bowman as "Mamma Lucia."
In "Pagliacci," the part of "Nedda" will be sung by Maria de la Vega with Ignacio Flores Galindo, interpreting "Canio"; Enrico Porta as "Tonio"; John La Monica of Santa Ana, "Beppe," and Jose Tatos, "Silvio."
A monthly production of an outstanding opera is planned for this community by the Los Angeles Grand Opera Association. Verdi's "La Traviata" is scheduled as the next presentation.
Tickets for Saturday's performance are available at Baton Music Company on West Center street and Brown and Reinhardt's on East Center street and at the box office.
Active Swimming Class Schedule Winding Up
Approximately 200 Red Cross swimming certificates were issued to students completing courses instructed by Irvin North, Jr., in the high school pool this summer. The sessions are concluding this week.
North, who graduated from Anaheim Union high school last fall, will enter Fullerton Junior college next semester. He is an accredited American Red Cross water safety instructor employed by the Anaheim chapter office.
Beginners certificates are being distributed this week to Mary Caiter, Larry Casey, Mary Lou Gastelum, Don Kohlenberger, Jessie Lopez, Robert Simon, Richard Sweet, Paul Winters, Edwin Callison, Marie Ann Dargatz, Michael Jarvis, Peggy Kohlenberger, Robert Loustau, Dick Spurlock, Marianne Walker and Matthew Wise.
Reynette Wallace passed the swimmer test.
Receiving junior life saving awards are Beverly Buckner, Mary Jean Bushman, Diana Cave, Carol Dier, Jean Pelle, Kathleen Brunet, Margaret Cain, Anna Lou Daly, Darlene Fitz, Joan Pelle, Rose Mary Poyet, Alberta Simeon, Shirley Seekins, Reynette Wallace and Jim Walsworth.
Patricia Booth and Beverly Roberts passed the senior life saving test.
Beginners certificates were issued to students in classes by Alta Mae Bearden in the plunge this week also. Throwing the course includes Sterba, Rita Thin, Marcini cent, Dick Spurlock, Dorotrich, Billy Roschlar, Charle Cauly, David Drennan, Ma Gastelum, Frank Cushing, Schrott and Gretchen Schmidt.

A monthly production of an outstanding opera is planned for this community by the Los Angeles Grand Opera Association. Verdi's "La Traviata" is scheduled as the next presentation.

Dahlia Show
This Weekend
In Santa Ana
Approximately 3500 dahlia blooms grown throughout southern California will be exhibited during the Orange County Dahlia Society show, to be held Friday and Saturday in the Young Men's Christian Association headquarters, Santa Ana. Several thousand visitors are expected to attend the event.
Dr. L. N. Sherrard, president of the county dahlia society, recently returned from a trip to Canada and northern states where he visited various commercial dahlias gardens. He named Orange county as the center of the best dahlia country between the rich areas from Santa Barbara and San Diego.
Winner of blue ribbons for the best dahlia and for the best formal type of dahlia shown in the Inglewood Dahlia show, last Saturday and Sunday, Dr. Sherrard stated that he believes this year's show in Orange county will be one of the most outstanding west of the Mississippi.
Other county winners in the Inglewood show include Dr. G. Emmett Raitt, Adrian Taylor and Mr. and Mrs. Hobart Jordan, all of Santa Ana, and L. O. Archibald of Orange.

Orange county's candidate for California Centennial Girl to be chosen during the State Fair in Sacramento is Miss Patricia Sullivan who was chosen at a contest in Huntington Beach this week.
Miss Sullivan will be flown to Sacramento tomorrow to compete against girls representing each of the 58 counties in California. The winner of this contest will travel about the U.S. inviting mayors,

Three of Stapp Family Showing At State Fair
The Stapp family of Santa Ana will be well represented at the California State Fair this year when Othal, Brian and Arvil will enter their prize-winning poultry in competition with other western breeders for State Fair premiums and awards. The fair opened in Sacramento today, to run through September 7.
Sweepstake prizes are offered for the large breeds of poultry, bantams, turkeys, geese and standard breeds of ducks.

VISITS IN OKLAHOMA
Donald Bruton, son of Mrs. Marie Bruton of 1104 East Center street left Saturday to visit his aunt and uncle in El Reno, Oklahoma, and his uncle, Carlton Peterson, his mother's brother, in Topeka, Kansas, formerly of Anaheim. Bruton will return here September 10 to enroll as a sophomore in Fullerton Junior college.
In China, the chrysanthemum is utilized in food.
The American Legion was organized at St. Louis in May, 1919.
