WOMEN’S ACTIVITIES Phone 2206 GRACE THOMPSON Lois Rebekah Lodge Host To Mrs. Garten, State President More than 200 Rebekah delegates attended the meeting staged at I.O.O.F. hall on West Center street, honoring Nelle C. Garten, president of the Rebekah Assembly, Friday night. Festivities began with a delicious dinner at Anaheim Union high school cafeteria. Sixteen Sunshine ladies attired in yellow-toned formalms escorted President Garten. Mildred Brubaker, noble grand of the Anaheim Lois Rebekah lodge, introduced visiting officers. Those welcomed included Mrs. Garten, Irving Priest, grand patriarch; Theresa L. Lark, past president; Henry Mang, past grand patriarch; Bert La Fontaine, marshall of the grand encampment; Ray Bayland, grand sentinel of the grand encampment; Jennie Mae Anne, marshall of the Rebekah assembly; Nellie Bayland, outside guardian of the Rebekah assembly. Deputies greeted were Beulah Webster of District 50; Queenie Carmichael of District 10; D. E. Burry, district deputy grand master; Col. Zincke of fourth regiment patriarch’s militant; Col. Nelsen, chief of staff to Major General of the department of California. Opening the entertainment program, little Miss Judy Brubaker sang the song of welcome assisted by the officers. She presented Mrs. Garten with a beautiful bouquet of flowers. Miss Deborah Cecil, accompanied by her mother at the piano, In charge of table decorations were Berthyle Reisinger, Violet Howard, Ora Horn, Edna Kruse. Future Plans For Toastmistress’ Future plans for the newly organized Toastmistress club of this city include an area speech contest to be staged at the Huntington hotel, Long Beach, tonight (Thursday) and the next regular meeting of the local group May 15, at 7:30 o’clock in the city hall, as announced during last week’s meeting. Headed by Mrs. D. K. Wilkenson, toastmistress of the evening, the group met last Thursday night in the city hall for the first regular session. Mrs. Paul Doyle discussed “A Trip to Boston,” Miss Margaret Freeman spoke on “Pioneering in Alaska” and Mrs. S. K. Watters presented “Let's All Be Americans.” Representing the Santa Ana Toastmistress club was Mrs. Raymond Young, parliamentary drill chairman. Members of the local group acted as evaluators. Mrs. Garten thanked the Lois Rebekah lodge for the help given toward the new Occupational Therapy building that is sponsored by the lodges of this state for World War II veterans. She gave a resume of activities at the Old Folks home and the children's home, both supported by California lodges. More than 6000 members belong to the organization and four new lodges have been instituted, she revealed. There are 13 new Theta Rho girls' clubs also. Future dates for the Rebekahs include the Past Noble Grand meeting tonight (Thursday) at the home of Vivian Waite; courtesy night tomorrow (Friday) at Huntington Beach; the. Odd Fellows' picnic May 25, at Irvine park with sports events to begin at 10 o'clock in the morning, and Rebekah Assembly at San Francisco next Monday to May 17. Assembly delegates from the local lodge will include Dorothy Heinz, Helen Pannier, Mildred Fitz, Berthyle Reisinger and Clara Burns. Adding to the occasion were artistic arrangements of roses, snapdragons, sweet peas and candles. May poles, dolls, and spring flowers graced the long banquet tables at the high school. Refreshment committee members included Marie Cannon, Bonner; Col. Zincke of fourth regiment patriarch's militant; Col. Nelsen, chief of staff to Major General of the department of California. Orchids Go To Mrs. Amelia Koch All good things come at once, according to the old saying. At least Mrs. Amelia Koch found it so. On the occasion of her eightyninth birthday anniversary, April 30, she was presented with "orchids to you" honors, by Tom Brenneman on his Breakfast Club hour in Hollywood. As the eldest lady in the studio, she was awarded a black chapeau accented with pink flowers in addition to a gorgeous orchid corsage. With her party she was the honoree of a festive luncheon following the broadcast. This marks the second "orchids and honors" event for Mrs. Koch who was first lady of the Brenneman program last year. She also received many postal congratulations on her anniversary and enjoyed an open house birthday party here last week. Brown, and William Webb. Boasting of more than 300 members, the organization launched future plans to include a resolution for the erection of an auditorium on the vacant property owned by the club adjacent to the present clubhouse. The proposal was made by Mrs. Tex Middleton. By unanimous ballot, next year's officers were elected with Mrs. Joe Van Wagoner named president; Mrs. Wilbert Bonney, first vice-president; Mrs. Llewelyn E. Wilson, second vice-president; Mrs. Earl Dahlmann, recording secretary; Mrs. Jarry Nutt, corresponding secretary; Mrs. H. P. Tobin, treasurer; Mrs. W. P. Hall, financial secretary; Mrs. Harold Harling, curator; Mrs. Emory Simon, auditor, and Mrs. Tex Middleton, parliamentarian. To serve two years on the board of trustees are Mrs. Ernest Genahl, Mrs. Harry Saulsbery and Mrs. Joe Van Wagoner. Trustees to serve one year terms are Mrs. Charles Harbeson, Mrs. Ben Kaulbars and Mrs. August Schumacher. Delegates to represent the local club at the state convention in Coronado beginning May 21, were appointed. They include Mesdames J. F. To Compete For SAJC 'Queen' Title Dolores Key of Anaheim will represent the Sisterhood of Spinsters as candidate with three coeds selected by the three other women's service clubs at Santa Ana Junior college to compete for the coveted title of "Dona," queen of the annual Fiesta to be staged Thursday, May 29 on campus. Miss Key was named by the Spinsters during the regular club meeting held recently at the home of Mrs. Venice Wetherell, advisor. Primary election is slated for May 19, and the finals will be May 21. St. Michael's Church to Mark 74th Anniversary This Sunday will mark the seventy-fourth milestone in the history of St. Michael's Episcopal church parish. A special service honoring the occasion will be given at 11 o'clock in the morning to be followed by a birthday tea party and kitchen shower that afternoon. Presiding at the silver urns were Mrs. William Webb, Miss E. Kate Rea, Mrs. H. W. Saulsbery, and Mrs. Joe Van Wagoner. Royal Neighbors Plan Activities A varied program and active business meeting marked the regular meeting of the Royal Neighbors at K.C. hall Monday evening. Alga Ballenger, presiding. Visitors from Long Beach, Fullerton, Santa Ana were welcomed and Elizabeth Golich of Canton, Ill., was introduced. Candidates were named and voted upon and plans made to attend the courtesy night to be held in Orange. Marywood Stages Madonna Program Stage lights dimmed as a tableau by Marywood high school presented the impressive annual Madonna Evening at the Anaheim Ebell clubhouse last Friday night at 8:15 o'clock. The opening address was given by Joyce Randall followed by the living picture of "Our Lady of Lourdes" interpreted by Irene Eimers, Dorothy Schultz and Carolyn Tournat, reader. Titian's "presentation of the Virgin" was portrayed by Ednadina Ruiz, Patricia Butler and Reader Clemence Baeyens; "Visitation" featured Mary Florence Snyder, Therese Riley and Oralia Vildosola, reader; and Barocci's "The Holy Night," was given by Mercedes Taylor and Joyce Randall, reader.
