ANDREA CALLENS - LEON VERMEULEN
WED IN IMPRESSIVE CHURCH CEREMONY
Lovely in her gown of white satin, Miss Andrea Callens, daughter of Mrs. Alice Callens of West Cerritos avenue, Anaheim, became the bride of Leon Vermeulen of Route 2, Box 163-A, Santa Ana, son of V. Vermeulen of Irvine, California, in formal rites solemnized at St. Boniface Catholic church last Saturday morning at 10 o’clock, the Rev. Father Henry Gross, reciting the nuptial Mass.
The young couple plighted their troth before an all-white altar flanked with tall baskets of white stocks, gladioli and ferns and potted palms with cathedral candelabra casting a soft glow over the setting which was witnessed by more than 400 family relatives and close friends. A white carpet was spread down the aisle for the bridal party. Large white satin bows marked the pews.
The bride, given in marriage by Gerard Callens, her brother, carried a white satin muff topped with baby white orchids. Traditional sentiment was found in the dainty handkerchief and prayer book which her mother had carried at her wedding.
Enhancing the bride’s loveliness was her long-trained veil of fragile silk net which cascaded in soft folds over the full skirt of her gown.
Matron of honor was Mrs. Henry Plou, wearing a gown of gold-toned silk fashioned with round neckline and cap sleeves. She carried a muff of orchid tulle topped with violets.
Other attendants included Mrs. Stanley Zinda, Miss Frances Plou and Miss Bernice Simon. Each was attired in a chartreuse silk gown of identical design to that of the matron.
Viollets. Perky lavender tulle hats decorated with violets and purple satin ribbon graced their hair.
Flower girl was Miss Dianne Plou, wearing a white satin frock trimmed with pearls. She carried a muff of white satin topped with white blossoms and wore a wreath of white flowers in her hair.
Serving as best man was Charles Vermeulen. Master Robert Zinda was the ring-bearer. Ushers included Isidore Vermeulen, Glenn Fisher and George Callens.
Preceding the ceremony, Miss Marcy Arroues sang “Ave Maria,” “Pannis Angelicus,” “Oh, Lord, I Am Not Worthy” and “Our Lady of Providence.” She was accompanied by Mrs. Anthony Faust, church organist, who also played the traditional wedding music.
Guests greeted the newlyweds in the church hall immediately following the ceremony with the bride's mother, Mrs. Callen, choosing for the occasion a smart gray wool dress, accented by a corsage of three green orchids.
In an atmosphere of early spring flowers the reception was presiding over the hostess duty. A dinner was given for 100 guests after the reception at the E clubhouse.
The young couple left for week’s honeymoon at an unclosed destination. Upon return they will reside at 2 South Parton street, Santa Ana.
For traveling the new Vermeulen wore a brown credress with brown accessories and light biege coat with fur trim.

High School P.-T. A. Regular Meeting,
Panel Discussion
Enjoying a delightful panel discussion and a brief business session, a large number of members of the Anaheim High School Parents and Teachers met on Tuesday evening in the school library. Mrs. Melvin Salveson, president, presided and introduced Mrs. B. A. Arnold, who will serve as program chairman to fill the vacancy of Mrs. A. J. Schutte, whose tragic death several months ago left the position unfilled.
Mrs. Richard R. Roehm, president of the Anaheim Council of Parents and Teachers, was coordinator of the panel discussion on the subject "Understanding True Values." She was introduced by Mrs. Arnold. Other participants in the discussion were Mrs. E. E. Middleton, a parent; Lynn Boliek, student; Charles H. Rinehart, teacher; and the Rev. Howard S. Congdon, minister.
Mrs. Middleton very aptly put her topic before the assemblage when she explained "True Values" as it affects each family. Children, as in the making of a pudding, are different and the course of their lives must necessarily be handled to fit each personality. Future lives of children must be molded in the homes not by talking to each child but by setting a pure and true example in the home. The student, Lynn Boliek, in presenting his views on the subject stated he believed a person of white carnation.
A graduate of Fullerton school she is an alumnus of Fulbrun college, class of '44 and been associated with S. Storey, Anaheim as the head hosiery department.
