"Sherlock Holmes" Yelps For Help On Southland Softball Editor & Football Expert, "The Gazette". Dear Sir & Gentleman: I never knew your estimable father, although I worked in this lovely city for the "Plain Dealer" in 1918, when Mr. Lotus Louden was advertising manager; but if I am not mistaken, I have met you several times, mostly at Jackson's drug store, these times always being when I sneaked away from work to get a Bromo and an eyeful of the pretty girls who work there (adv). I also know your estimable mother, and I get no greater pleasure out of life than I do when setting up her "Seventy-five, 60 and 95 Years Ago" column, because I can remember back to just about that time. And I feel that, as one sports enthusiast to another, I can appeal to you for help. There is in Anaheim it seems, as in several other cities in the Sunkist state, an organization known as the Chamber of Commerce. I do not know where they meet in Anaheim, although in times past I have paid dues to, addressed, cajolled, bawled out, and been boycotted by chambers of commerce in cities in several states. I don't think they meet in Jackson's drug store (2 advs) because I have been told that spot is reserved for football experts and the City Hall bunch; but anyway, they must meet somewhere, unless they are different from any other chambers I have known or heard about in a somewhat protracted life. Now, all the above is perfectly reasonable and sane, and a good thing for the town, and especially for the printers, so I am for it—with reservations. But I understand that, since I was active in C. of C. circles, they have added a department known as the "Better Business Burro". This animal may be very much like old Pinal Pete's "Molasses" and "January", of whom you will here more in due time in the "Holmespuns" dept: of "Southland Softball". No harm done so far. Nevertheless, I unknow this Burro carefully any project dealing with and either approves on the project. And Before I issue "Sherlock Holmes" Fate and the "Gazette" force will allow tend to sting a very of persons for ads softball teams in who will be feature number if I am still When I say sting, tool! On account the shortage of calves, due to every them being plowed Nude-Eelers, everyly paper and printing and the cost of "Southland Softball the Nude-Eelers 20 I expect to lose on during the first th its existence, will be nothing in the week Nude-Eel investigat position capitalist even tie it. And I am worried. Before I issue "Southland Softball as near to January 1st as Fate and the "Gazette" mechanical force will allow, I fully intend to sting a very large number of persons for ads congratulating softball teams in the Southland who will be featured in my first number if I am still out of jail. When I say sting, I mean sting, tool. On account of because the shortage of little pigs and calves, due to every third row of them being plowed under by the Nude-Eelers, everything, especially paper and printing has gone up and the cost of getting out "Southland Softball" and paying the Nude-Eelers 20 per cent on all I expect to lose on the magazine during the first three months of its existence, will be so great that nothing in the world except a Nude-Eel investigation of an opposition capitalist could equal, or even tie it. So if the Business Burro decides that I am charging twice as much as the advertising space is worth, can’t you please explain to them, if you know any of them, that in all justice they should not turn my project down, but should encourage the business men to pay my rates and then send a bill right away, so the Nude-Eeelers can pay it quick, as I understand a large number of them are soon to lose their jobs and go on Unemployment, which sounds positively unpleasant to me, as I was Unemployed under two administrations of Grover Cleveland and one of Woodrow Wilson and I do not relish the idea, nor do I suppose they will, notwithstanding that Cleveland was a Democrat, not a Nude-Eeeler. Having thus briefly and clearly explained the dilemma under which I am on the horns of, I might just as well add for the record that I am going to go right ahead and charge all the traffic will bear and 87 cents more, and if the Better Business Burro does clamp down, so help me Joan Alsup, I'll run a full page picture of the whole durn body (I think body is a better word than Burro for this kind of gimmick, anyway) upside down and label it: "Tread Lightly, Jamie; Here Lies the Dead (Body)". Thanking you in advance for lifting a grey toad from my soul, and getting the Better Business Burro to turn the other way as I jip the citizenry right and left, all and sundry, ham and eggs, Tom and Jerry. New Buildings to Be Erected On FJC Campus There will be ten new buildings and four new tropical shells erected on the Fullerton Junior College campus next year, according to an announcement made by Supt. T. Stanley Warburton yesterday. Details of the new structures were given as follows: six buildings of the recreation type, insulated, 225 by 70; three buildings 25 by 72 of the administrative type; one building 25 by 108 of the administrative type; and four tropical shells 20 by 54, prefabricated and insulated. These buildings, obtained from the Santa Ana Army Air base and from Camp Lathrop, are to be used on the FJC campus for science, mathematics and agriculture. Initial cost of the new buildings is being withstood by the FWA, as is the cost of the moving and placing of the buildings. The city schools of Fullerton will handle the cost of architecture. It was disclosed that Warburton and a committee recently returned from a trip to the camps mentioned where they inspected the buildings and made arrangements for moving them to the Hornet campus.
