'WADING WEATHER' HERE!
SUNSHINE PERCOLATES DOWN
During "wading weather" this week, the still existing rubber shortage was much in evidence as pedestrians emptied liquid sunshine from their shoes at intervals and scurried here and there beneath assorted "head gear", including paper bags, copies of the latest newspapers, wax paper and last year's hats. Several accidents were witnessed as foot travelers attempted fording young rivers which flowed practically from curb to curb despite the city's complex drainage system. The Wingerts Find Good Hunting
Twenty-eight pheasants from Nebraska and South Dakota were merely one item on a menu of culinary delicacies collected during the hunting trip enjoyed by Mr. and Mrs. Nick Wingert and his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Wingert of Long Beach recently. The quartette left in Ralph's new Pontiac October 17.
In addition to the delectable wild fowl, they solved the meat shortage with a 250-pound hog, dressed, and 24 five-pound Rhode Island chickens, also dressed and frozen. Seems the car's chassis scraped the highways on each bump all the way home.

The group plans to return from their deer hunting trip next week. They left for the north approximately two months ago.
