Thursday, October 24, 1946 WOMEN’S ACTIVITIES Phone 2206 GRACE THOMPSON Fullerton Concert Series Planned Deadline on the sale of season tickets for the Fullerton Concert association is next Sunday, it was announced this week. In cooperation with the education committee of the Fullerton Chamber of Commerce, arrangements have been made by the association for a series of top concerts in Fullerton this winter. There will be no box office sales of tickets, since the non-profit organization is designed to present artists of the highest quality ranging from symphony and ballet, quartets to soloists and piano to harmonica. The concerts will be staged in Fullerton Union high school auditorium. The cost of membership is as follows: adults, $5 and $1 tax; students, including junior college students, veterans and their wives, $2.50 and 50 cents tax. Tickets are available at the "torch office" on the Jaysee campus. Special Guests on Club Program At Buena Park Mrs. Vera Jean Hilbers, talented soprano of this city, and Mrs. George Wheat, president of the Orange County Federation of Women’s clubs, were featured on a special program of the Buena Park Woman’s club last Thursday at the club house there. Discussing "Hoarded Laughter," Mrs. Wheat defined American humorist whose wit incorporated universal appeal with the colloquial. Mrs. Hilbers interpreted "The Last Rose of Summer," "Shoes," "The Kerry Dance" and "Calm is the Night." Highlighting the Federation calendar is the Orange County board meeting to be held November 8 in the Buena Park Woman's club house. A craft show will be staged. Of special interest is a play day next Tuesday at Santa Ana Ebell club to be sponsored by the Orange County Federation past presidents for all club women. Buena Park Woman’s club activities include the regular club meeting November 7 to feature a pot luck luncheon. The Blue Monday card club of the Woman’s club met last Monday. Legion Auxiliary Delegates Attend District Meeting Three local delegates of the American Legion Auxiliary attended the twenty-first quarterly district meeting of the American Legion and the Legion Auxiliary, staged in Placentia last Sunday. The women met at the Woman’s club house there while the Legionnalres gathered at the Placentia Legion hall. Both groups enjoyed a joint luncheon at the Legion hall. Ladies representing the local auxiliary included Mrs. Marlon Fennell, president; Mrs. Margaret of Americanism chairman. Different state chairman outed committee prorams and policies for the ensuing year in membership, rehabilitation (hospice work), child welfare, American and the Pan-American program. Highlight of the affair was presentation of department collections. The Anaheim unit received the 1945-46 citation for carry out the six point program, Mrs. Boysen receiving a personal citation for her outstanding work. Membership among the widest daughters, sisters and mothers World War II veterans was used in the outlining of unit programs. Boards To Sell 'Quality Street' Tickets Board members of the Anah Union high school Parent-Teachers association will sell tickets "Quality Street," famous four play by James M. Other activities of group include the sponsorship of a float in gala Hallowe'en parade on October 31, and the direction of school dance, after the Friday night football game in the AU gymnasium. Miss Ruth Phelps, drama co., will be starred in "Quality Street Paul H. Demaree, high school principal, and Mrs. Joe Thompson speech instructor, will head a supporting cast. Picturesque seventeenth century costumes and colorful sets will feature in the fast moving play which deals with the period 1804 to 1810 during the day; the Napoleonic Wars in Europe. Newlyweds Back From Arrowhead Party Honors Mrs. Dahlman Now at home to their families and friends are Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Robert McDonald of 164 Fourth street, Garden Grove. She is the former Miss Ellen Jane Jordan of Garden Grove daughter Department, Pentagon Building, Washington. Following her discharge in January, 1946, she was associated with Bullocks, Los Angeles, until her marriage. A native of Garden Grove, Franklin attended schools there and is also an alumnus of Fullerton junior college. Since his discharge from the Navy, he has been associated with the Fuller Paint Company, Santa Ana. He is the son of Mrs. Mildred McDonlad of Garden Grove. Marilou Neja To Edit FJC's Annual "Torch" Miss Marilou Neja, alumnus of Marywood high school, this city, and a sophomore at Fullerton Junior college, was recently appointed editor-in-chief of the Annual Torch, Jaysee yearbook. She was the editor of the Weekly Torch, school paper, during the spring semester last year. Plans for the annual torch are being drafted with a fantasy theme. Pictures and detail copy will be organized during the year and published in the spring. Staff members chosen to date include Norman Stanley, assistant editor; Jack Hadden, photographer; Howard Warner, art editor; H. C. Kaylor, business manager, and Marilyn McGuire, assistant business manager. Royal Neighbors Enjoy Card Party Hailed as a huge success was the festive card party presented by the Royal Neighbors of America of this city, recently. First prize in "500" went to Mrs. M. Hatfield. Mrs. Kelley won second prize. Top honors in pinochle went to Mrs. O. Ballenger. Approximately 20 guests present at the organic meeting, which included new pledges, in addition members. Schott McFarland, pastor of that church officiated for the double-ring ceremony, witnessed by more than 200 immediate family relatives and close friends. The new Mrs. McDonald attended elementary and high school at Garden Grove. She is a native of Colorado. An alumnus of Fullerton junior college, she graduated from the University of California at Berkeley, class of 1943. 'Tavern Tattlers' Of SAJC Meet Aspiring writers of Santa Ana junior college, known as the "Tavern Tattlers", held their first literary club meeting of the year last week at the home of President Jeanne Wilcox, 1515 Washington avenue, Santa Ana, Miss Lota Blythe, faculty advisor announced. They were dined at the inn by Mrs. Sarah Huggen, who resides there, for an evening of conversation and bridge. An artistic arrangement of white holder chrysanthemums graced the dinner table. Lois Rebekahs Attend 'Courtesy Night' at Fullerton Members of the Lois Rebekah Lodge of Anaheim were among the county representatives attending Rebekah Courtesy Night at the Rebekah Lodge of Fullerton, recently. Guests from the different lodges filled the offices for the occasion. Other lodges represented included Arbutus Lodge of Whittier, Ruby Lodge of Orange, Acacia of Huntington Beach and Sycamore of Santa Ana. The banquet room of the Fullerton Masonic Temple was decorated in an appropriate Hallowe'en motif. Pomegranates held the place cards. Refreshments of coffee and cake were served. Hostesses were Elsa Goodwin and Edna Crandall. Two piano selections were interpreted by Miss Josephine La Rue. She was introduced to the group by Miss Lois Annin.
