MARY'S, FULLERTON In a lovely double-ring ceremony at St. Mary's Catholic church, Fullerton, Miss Bettie Louise Kovar, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Kovar of 145 North Nicholas avenue, Fullerton, became the bride of Joseph Ramon Gerand, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Gerand of Riverton, Wyoming, in semi-formal rites solemnized last Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock, Father John McCormick, reciting the nuptial Mass. The young couple plighted their troth before an all-white altar flanked with tall white baskets of gladiolls and larkspur and potted palms, with cathedral candelabra casting a soft glow over the setting, witnessed by more than 150 immediate family relatives and close friends. Baskets of peach and white gladioli flanking the alce blended with peach satin streamers, completing the effect. The bride, given in marriage by her father, carried a spray bouquet of white gladioli and white tuber roses. Enhancing the bride's brunette loveliness, was her three-tiered finger-tip length veil of fragile tulle caught to a tiara of orange blossoms, falling in soft folds to her white satin gown fashioned with off-shoulder yoke of marquisette and bertha of delicate lace, tight fitting bodice, scalloped on a very full skirt ending in a long train. Sister of the groom, Miss Mary Frances Gerand, served as the maid of honor. She wore a gown of lanvender toned pique voile. She carried a pastel lanvendar spray bouquet of pom pom dahlias. A matching corongent blended with shoulder length veil matching her dress graced her hair. blended of the same blue and yellow tones. Other attendants were Miss Virginia Visse, cousin of the bride, and Mrs. James Walker (nee Lynn Carlson). Each wore pastel peach gowns contrasting with their bouquets of bronze pom pom dahlias. Their coronets were replicas of that of the made of honor. Ushers included Ronald Kovar of Fullerton, brother of the bride; James Walker of La Habra; Tommy Bevins of Anaheim, and Bob Haidlow of Los Angeles. Preceding the ceremony, John P. Holme of Fullerton sang Schubert's "Ave Maria" and "The Lord's Prayer" by Mallot, accompanied by Mrs. Holme, his wife, at the console of the organ. She also played the traditional wedding marches. Guests greeted the newlyweds in the church hall following the ceremony with the bride's mother choosing for the occasion a black crepe dress and black patent accessories, accented by a pink feather hat and corsage of pink split carnations. Mother of the groom wore a rose toned dress and hat with white accessories and a corsage of white split carnations. After cutting and sharing the first piece of their four-tiered wedding cake topped with tiny bride and groom miniatures, the young couple left for a two-week honeymoon at a coastal resort and tour of national parks. They planned to visit Denver, Colorado and Riverton, Wyoming, the groom's home town. The newlyweds will be at home after September 10 at Haramie, Wyoming. For traveling the bride chose a two-piece black linen dress fashioned with a tiny bustle. Her accessories included black patent shoes and purse, accented by pink gloves, pink feather hat and corsage of pink-toned baby rose buds. Well known in Orange county the bride is a graduate of Fullerton Union high school, and attended Fullerton Junior college and Oregon State college where she met the groom. A native Californian, she has lived in Fullerton since she was four years old. The groom graduated from Riverton high school in 1943. He was in the R.O.T.C. at Oregon State college and spent two years in the navy, receiving his discharge this June. He is now enrolled as a law major at the University of Wyoming. Their wedding culminated an engagement of six and one-half months. Pre-nuptial courtesies included a miscellaneous shower given by Mrs. O. H. Hughes of 414 South Ohio street, Anaheim, a pottery shower given by Miss Esther Ridgeway and Mrs. James Walker at North Cypress street, La Habra home of Miss Ridgeway, and kitchen shower given by Mrs. T. Riverton with off-shoulder yoke of marquisette and bertha of delicate lace, tight fitting bodice, scalloped on a very full skirt ending in a long train. In an atmosphere of beautiful spring flowers, more than 150 immediate family relatives and close friends gathered for a reception following the ceremony in the spacious garden and patio of the Kovar home. Assisting with the arrangements were Miss Marilyn Moodie and Miss Joyce Patterson, both wearing pale blue formalms. Miss Meredith Rank of San Francisco was in charge of the guest book. Mrs. Eva Boyd's Daughter Leaves After Visit Here Miss Jessie Boyd left here to day after a short visit with her mother, Mrs. Eva Boyd, 129 South Olive street. She is traveling to New York where she has been attending summer classes at Columbia University. A college instructor in library science, she has been a member of the faculty at the University of California at Berkeley for several years. Spending an active vacation Miss Boyd was also a delegate at the National Education Association convention held at Buffalo July. More than 1500 delegates attended the streamlined week conference, she revealed. Naomi Holland Named Head of G.O.P. Women Mrs. Naomi Holland was elected president of the Anaheim council of Republican women for the ensuing year, during the ladies meeting on press day, last Thursday afternoon at the home of Mr. Eva Boyd, 129 South Olive street. Mrs. Bertha Riggs, resigned past president, presided. Other officers named include Miss Lena V. Rowe, reelected first vice-president; Mrs. James Bertrand, second vice-president; and Mrs. Mary Garner, third vice-president. Remaining in office were Mrs. Vera Mae Dwyer, recording-secretary; and Mrs. Eva Boyd, treasurer. The next council meeting scheduled for September 13, at the home of Mrs. Holland on North Vine street at 2:30 o'clock, it was announced. Anita Mary Callens daughter of Mrs. Alice Callens of Cerritos avenue, to Lt. Leonard Gaydos, United States Navy Medical corps, of South Huron road, New Boston, Mich., last Saturday morning at 10 o'clock at St. Boniface Catholic church, with Rev. Father Henry Gross reading the nuptial mass for the formal double-ring ceremony. Candelabra holding vases of white flowers and three lighted candles, each blending with white satin bows and streamers connecting the pews marked the aisle. The bride, given in marriage by her brother, Gerard Callens, carried a white prayer book which was carried by her mother at her wedding, graced with a white orchid surrounded by buvardia. Beauty of the bride was enhanced by her white satin gown. It was the bridal dress worn by her sister Agnes Callens Zinda, on November 29, 1941. A gown to be treasured in the family, it is fashioned with imported lace inserts forming the puff of the long sleeve pointed at the wristline, with larger applique insets designed on the long train of the full skirt. Tiny seed pearls accent the high yoke-line. Her long veil, falling in soft folds over her gown, was caught to a lovely coronet outlined with larger seed pearls. She carried a handkerchief also carried by her mother at her wedding 30 years ago. Matron of honor was Mrs. Agnes Callens Zinda. Her gown was of poudre blue jersey, accented with a flowered bandeau of white carnations. She carried a bouquet of white split carnations. Members of the bridal party also wore flowing poudre blue gowns identically designed with a wide midriff belt effect and Dahlman sleeves. The bride's attendants included Angela Callens Guests greeted the newlyweds in the church hall immediately following the ceremony with the bride's mother choosing for the occasion a soldier-blue dress studded with gold and a poudre blue feather hat and long blue suede gloves. She wore an exquisite gold orchid with a rich crimson center. Parents of the bridegroom were unable to attend the ceremony. More than 300 relatives and friends gathered for a reception at the family home of the bride's mother. Assisting with hostess duties were Mrs. Gus Callens, Mrs. Joe Callens and Mrs. Adiel Vanderbecke, all aunts of the bride. Frances Plou presided at the guest book. His bride will return to duty at Sampson, New York. She will receive her discharge from the Navy October 1. The wedding was a culmination of a romance which had its introduction when the young couple met at St. Alban's Naval hospital, Long Island, New York. The bride attended Immaculate States Naval hospital at Co., and served aboard the naval capital ship Solace in the Pacific area for 15 months before being sent to her present station at Albans. Lieutenant Gaydos, her bride groom, is a graduate of W University, college of medicine Detroit, Mich., class of 1942, lowing this training, he spent years in the Navy Medical service overseas duty with the Beach Battallion. He has been tioned in St. Albans and foli ng his release from active plans to resume his work at per hospital, completing his gical residency. Ensign John Langford, hus of Mrst Marjorie Langford, East South street, has been charged from the navy at the sonnel Separation center in Francisco. Faust at the console of the organ, she sang, "Ava Maria", Mrs. Faust also played the traditional wedding marches. The impressive wedding was witnessed by more than 300 immediate family relatives and close friends.
