These little winged creatures, symbolic of peace and purity for ages and ages, certainly have a great amount of common sense when they choose Orange county for their home. Who knows? Named Moro and Yaccinelli, the two players caused riots of backslapping among members of the audience with their broken-English dialogue and wittily presented songs on the guitar and accordion. They have been seen many times playing in Republic pictures.
On the whole, the picnic was termed a "success" by every veteran who attended. It was orderly well-planned and well-received.
E.W.Moeller,secretary-manager of the local Chamber of Commerce, and the Rev.H.G.Schmelzer,both committeemen for the picnic, could be seen "the morning after,"literally beaming their way along Center street. When interviewed, they agreed,"that was nothing! Wait 'til you see next year's party!

Glen N. Wooley of Fullerton was elected president of the 32nd District Agricultural association at Orange last Monday night during a reorganization meeting. Discussion of annexing a portion of the Santa Army Air base for staging the Orange County Fair and Horse Show headed the business session.
The 32nd district members appointed by Gov. Earl Warren for four years, felt that the association should be activated. The fair was sponsored this year by the Assistance League of Orange county.
H. Clay Kellogg of Garden Grove was chosen vice-president and Frank Rospaw, publisher of the Placentia Courier, was named secretary-treasurer. He is the only non-member of the association as prescribed by California state law.
Other members of the association include Roy N. Edwards of Orange, Mrs. Sam Nau of Tustin, H. T. Dunning of Santa Ana, Aaron Buckhelm, of Dohoney Park Edward N. Hall of Santa Ana and Mrs. Frank Rospaw of Placentia.
Members ofthe board of supervisors will meet with President Woolley to consider legal steps necessary in the procurement on the grounds and for assuming operation of the annual extravaganza.
A "freeze" order is now laid against the air base with the federal government. Under state law agricultural districts are empowered to receive state funds and operate fairs.

Vets Urged To Salvage Paper
An average of 1,000 tons of old newspapers and magazines are required for every 1,000 homes built in this area.
This statement was made by Louis M. Dreves, Los Angeles Regional Director of the Civilian Production administration, in a release from the Southern California Paper Industry’s Salvage committee last week.
"I wish to remind the veterans who expect to build homes," said Dreves, "that such vital materials as building board and plaster lath have been forced into the 'critical' list, and are now only obtainable, if at all, with HH priorities."
He urged former servicemen and women attempting to build homes or contemplating construction, to aid their own veterans' housing program by staging personal drives for old newspapers and magazines to offset the critical shortages of building materials manufactured from wastepaper.
"The existing sources of supply coupled with the personal collection of each veteran who expects to build would help to eliminate the shortage. If each veteran would make himself responsible for at least a half a ton of paper, the shortage would probably be entirely eliminated."
Veterans who already own their own homes were also asked to participate in the drive. Dreves reminded them that the construction of their homes was aided by someone who had saved waste paper. "It is up to these veterans," he said, to save the critical raw material for their former comrades-in-arms who have yet to
Taxpayers Issue Second Section of Study on Schools
Making public the second section of its study of school district financing in California, the California Taxpayers’ association stated that the public schools of Orange county got $2,064,728 in appropriations from the state treasury for the 1945-46 school year. In addition to the state apportionment, the property tax levy for the school districts in the county was $3,707,503 for 1945-46.
Elementary school districts in the county got $1,376,308 out of the state treasury, high school districts received $620,915, and junior college districts $67,505.
Proposition 3 on the November ballot would fix state support of the public schools at $180 per pupil in average daily attendance. The present base is $80 per pupil for the elementary schools and $90 for the secondary schools. This means an increase in state apportionment of $50 per cent on elementary pupils and 88 1/8 per cent on secondary pupils. In addition, state support would be provided for kindergarten pupils for the first time.
Total state apportionment to the public school districts throughout the state for 1945-46 was $96,157,-108, with $65,219,246 for the elementary schools; $29,910,273 for the high schools; and $1,627,589 for junior college districts. In addition, total property tax levy for schools was $131,965,112.
The association claims that if proposition 3 were to be voted by the people, the total state apportionment to the public schools would be $142,000,000, assuming the 1945-46 attendance base of 1,-
