Holiday Crowds Break Records At Park; Plunge Independence Day holiday-goers shattered all attendance records here last Thursday when more than 3,000 persons jammed the city's park facilities and broke all known paid attendance figures at the city plunge. John Wallin, plunge manager, reported this week that 1,110 persons passed through the turnstiles at the swimming center shattering all known paid attendance records. In the parks, the thousands milled around waiting for earlier parties to vacate picnic tables, so that, they too, could spread their various assortment of holiday viands. Park attendants reported however, despite the size of the crowds, it was most orderly and less accidents were reported than in previous Sundays. Most in attendance at the plunge were children, it was revealed, with more than 600 of them vying with adults for the privilege of keeping cool. Pledging he would keep the campaign on a non-partisan basis, the 56-year old publisher, advocated no compromise with communism and compulsory arbitration of strikes. Gov. Earl Warren only recently declared the special election to fill the senate vacancy created by the resignation of Kuchel who had been appointed earlier to the state controllership. It will be a special ballot at the chairman in Iowa and publisher of a chain of seven newspapers in that state, Farquhar at one time was classified advertising manager of the Chicago Herald and later, in the same capacity, was on the staff of the Seattle Post Intelligencer. Walton Anglers Cruiser Trip Next Tuesday Of interest to local Izaak Walton anglers is the third Sportscraft fishing trip, slated for next Tuesday. With the second boat already chartered by the Anaheim club, members are urged to register now at Peter Wisser's sporting goods store, 169 West Center street, phone 3417. Departure time from this city will be at 7 o'clock. The boats leave from Lido Island, Newport Beach. Future cruiser outings are scheduled for July 30, August 20 and 27 and September 10, 15 and 24. Supervisors Approve Premium Payments of Fair Approval of premium payments from the Orange county fair fund totaling $8,876.50 and a lease agreement permitting the Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Anaheim to use the Odd Fellows hall at 325 W. Center street, were given by the board of supervisors at Santa Ana last week. Awards to be paid were listed as follows: horse show premiums, $5,547.50; flower show, $846; horticulture, $259; agriculture, $491; Future Farmers of America, $883; informed that an old statute calling for payment of $1.50 a day and 10 cents a mile for travel, had been replaced by later legislation calling for the higher payment. Shigekawa spent 90 days in the occupied Japanese capital on special orders from the war department. During this time his wife and their children resided here with relatives.
