Veterans Urged to Record Discharge
A warning to record discharge papers was given all 'discharged veterans in this area this week by Arthur E. Mills, special services representative of the Orange County Veterans' Service Center at Santa Ana.
Once original discharge papers have been lost, destroyed or mutilated, there is no way to obtain copies of them, Mills warned.
Veterans who have lost their original papers should apply for a "certificate in lieu of lost discharge," he said.
Servicemen were advised to record their papers at the recorder's office, Hall of Records, Santa Ana.
Army Recalls POW Pickers
Their removal bemoaned by citrus packing plant maangers 758 prisoners of war were ordered moved from Garden Grove yesterday by army officials for repatriation to Europe.
The men were to be taken to a point of embarkation, army officials announced.
Chiefly Austrians, the men had been brought to Garden Grove to work under contract with Citrus Growers Inc., a combine of packing plant managers, who were hard-pressed for sufficient pickers.
Under command of Capt. Hugh Erwin, the prisoners had picked 180,974 boxes of fruit during their work period from June 2 to June 15, packing plant spokesmen said.
George Graham, manager of the Citrus Growers, last night said, "this will leave us awfully short of help. We desperately need more men in the groves and everyone who wants to work can have a job."
Arrival of 1500 Mexican National to augment the present 1300 now at work is expected in the near future, he said, but their arrival is uncertain.

Arrest Two In Seizure of Slot Machines
Seizure of two slot machines in a gasoline station at Lincoln and Manchester boulevards in county territory here last night resulted in the arrest of two men and confiscation of the "one-arm" bandits, police reported today.
Booked on possession of gambling machines were Charles Chapman, of 518 South Illinois Ave., owner of the station and Oliver C. Victor of 921 North Helena street, an employe.
The men were arrested by Deputy Sheriffs N. D. Williams and Carl Pryor, who asserted they had played the machines and that both of them paid off in coins.
Both men were released on $50 bond pending arraignment June 28 in Anaheim justice court.
Pump Efficiency Lowers Water Cost
Irrigation costs materially reduced due to increased efficiency of pumping plants and more uniform distribution of water, have aided innumerable Orange county farms keep down irrigation overhead, W. M. Cory, assistant farm advisor, said here yesterday.
By checking occasionally on the ratio of power consumption to useful work done, it can be determined whether repairs are in order as well as to learn the quantity of water that is being pumped, Cory said. This latter information is valuable as it is then possible to determine the quantity of water that is being applied at each irrigation.
Frequent use of the soil auger, prior to, and following an irrigation is a means of checking whether an irrigation is necessary or not, and whether the water has been applied to a uniform depth, he said.
Irrigation costs may also be lowered in many instances by two or more neighbors joining in together in the operation of a pumping plant.

Mexican National To Be Deported
A 34-year old Mexican National, arrested by local police in Olive during a routine investigation in connection with a German Luger pistol found on a man arrested earlier this week, was turned over to federal authorities at Santa Ana for deportation to Mexico, police reported yesterday.
Identified as Percilliano Valles Rodarte, police said his failure to produce a draft card led to their suspicion that he had illegally entered the country. Rodarte admitted he had been in the United States two years, one year of which was in California and one month in Orange county.
