ELLIOTT In this announcement, Sheriff Jesse L. Elliott is asking to be retained in the county office he has held for the past eight years. He is inviting the voters to "judge from the record." "The war years have given Orange county its most serious and complex problems of law enforcement," said Sheriff Elliott, "and citizens should judge from the record of the Sheriff's office my ability to continue serving the county in these trying days of readjustment." The record includes a high percentage of solved crimes, and commendations from every successive grand jury since I have been in office, for an efficient, economical and impartial administration despite war problems. Rams' Coach Guest Speaker At Varsity Meet Last Thursday evening, beginning at 7:30 in the high school cafterla, the Varsity "A" club was honored with a potluck dinner that was a big success. Following the dinner, Don Martinson, first-string tackle last season and graduating this year, took over as emcee and expressed appreciation to the dinner committee for its fine handling of the arrangements. He then introduced Coach Dick Glover who gave a short introductory talk about the special guest of the evening, George Travkin, line coach of the famed National Football league champs, the Los Angeles Rams, formerly the Cleveland home team. Travkin played center for the Irish of Notre Dame back in the early '20s when football was in its infancy, and rules were just enforced to protect the game officials. He played all-league football for 13 years with the Bears when they made a riot out of every game, and slugging, kneeling, and trampling were just part of the strategy. Later he signed up with the Rams as line coach, where he has consistently produced some of the top-rated lines in pro football. He talked to the members of the Anaheim football varssity, stressing the value of the game in making good citizens and in developing fine sportsmen. He emphasized the value of discipline in the game, saying that a fellow who hadn't learned how to take orders from his coach in high school and college but was one The trouble began when Britt was notified by KVOE at 5:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon that transcription, painstakingly done at 2:30 o'clock that after in his studio, was bad because his equipment didn't match the station. The pro- was due at 7 o'clock. With aid of his father, Earl Squiles Linda, he had checked the ad- of the student performers at 8 o'clock and had "rounded all of them four minutes before time to "go on the air"—all one; she "made it" by 15 o'clock. The theme song record, "Ta Ra Boom De-Ay" had evidently cracked when Britton hit him on the way to Santa Ana, not discovered until he used it to the studio technician who exclaimed, "You don't ask you can play that?" With seconds "to go," they snatched another recording: result, the production, the "Friendly Tav-Polka." Script from the book which had been re-written by Britton for a minute program had to cut for a 15-minute broadcast split-second notice. The program ran over five seconds, leave three seconds for the cast and ended-up scripts to be out of the book before the WCTU program on the air. Good time was had by all. General Omar N.
