ELIZABETH HUGHES-FRANK CAPLIS
UNITED IN NUPTIAL MASS HERE
Before an all white altar decorated with gladioli, larkspur and potted palms intermingled with the soft glow of candlelight from tapers in tall candelabra, Miss Elizabeth Ann Hughes, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Everett V. Hughes of South Harbor boulevard, and Frank A. Caplis, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Caplis of Hawthorne, knelt to receive their nuptial blessing last Saturday morning at 9 o'clock, the formal rites solemnized at St. Boniface Catholic church in Anaheim with Father Henry Gross, officiating at the doubling ceremony before more than 250 immediate relatives and close friends.
The bride was lovely in a gown of white slipper satin fashioned with a sweetheart neckline, long sleeves daintily pointed at the wrist, fitted bodice styled with a low waistline and very full skirt ending in a long train. Further enhancing her ensemble was her fingertip veil, falling in graceful folds from a tiara of seed pearls. Traditional sentiment was found in a tiny blue handkerchief the bride had tucked in her gown, a treasured gold ring which had belonged to her great grandmother in Holland which was later brought to this country by a great aunt more than 50 years ago, and a tiny gold cross, that was also a family heirloom.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride carried a white prayer book graced with a beautiful white orchid blended with a cluster of lillies of the valley.
Maid of honor was Miss Mary Caplis, sister of the bridegroom, wearing a formal gown of pale yellow tone designed with a low neckline, princess bodice and very full skirt. She carried a colonial bouquet of carnations centered with talisman roses: Gracing her hair was a fragile net halo matching the pastel shade of her gown with a veil falling to the shoulder.
Faust at the console of the organ. Mrs. Faust also played the traditional wedding marches for the nuptials.
In an atmosphere of white spring flowers, the reception honors were held in the Parish hall with guests greeted by Mr. and Mrs. Hughes and Mr. and Mrs. Caplis, the bride's mother choosing for the occasion a beautiful dress of poudre blue accented by black accessories. The bridegroom's mother wore a black and white flower printed dress. Both wore single orchid corsages.
The bride and bridegroom cut and shared the first piece of the wedding cake which was centered on a table spread with an exquisite lace cloth that had been a gift presented to her parents on their 25th wedding anniversary.
Presiding at the coffee urns were two aunts of the bride, Mrs. C. F. Hughes of Anaheim and Mrs. W. J. Conboy of Los Angeles. Soft harp music creating a delightful background, was

Bridesmaids were two former first lieutenants and officer associates in the United States Army Nurses corps who had served overseas with the bride, now both honorably discharged. They were Doris Neill of Portland, Oregon, whom Miss Hughes had first met in San Francisco and later served with in the Philippines, and Helen Dahl of San Diego, whom the bride met while on duty in the Hawaiian Island. Both bridesmaids were attired in identical gowns of soft blue tone. They carried colonial bouquets of blue delphinium centered with yellow sweetpeas, and each wore halos of matching pale blue of identical design with that of Miss Caplis, completed their ensembles.
Best man to the bridegroom was J. J. Caplis, Jr., a returned veteran. Ushers escorting guests down the aisleway, which was lighted by candles in single cannelabra tied with white satin bows and spread with a white carpet, included Joseph Hughes, brother to the bride from Santa Maria and Richard Sullivan of Los Angeles, both discharged service men.
Soloist for the ceremony was Mrs. J. J. Caplis, Jr., singing four beloved songs including "Ave Maria" and "Pontis Angelicus" accompanied by Mrs. A. F.
