LA VERNE B. CONE,
Organization of county emergency food program managers and a scheduling of plans of operation were completed at a meeting held at the Los Angeles chamber of commerce on March 28. Stephen Griset, Orange county chairman, and Eric E. Eastman, AAA secretary, will be completed in the near future, Griset stated.
Gra-Y Boys' Club Enjoys Snow Camp
An event eagerly looked forward to each year was enjoyed by young members of the Gra-Y Boys' club of Lincoln school district last weekend when they went to Camp Osceola for a snow party and retreat. This group is under the leadership of Loren Roberts.
Accompanying the boys to camp were two fathers of members, Mr. Buster, who has established a reputation of a "swell hash-slinger" and Mr. Toussau, who assisted in the entertaining duties.
The young men report plenty of snow battles, huge snow men built and brought back a report that four to six inches of snow was on the ground with snow still falling during the weekend.
Members attending the retreat were Howard Olsen, Jimmy Vincent, Ronnie Brown, Tommy Brown, Carlas Ochoa, John Steinborn, John Ehrle, Gary Claussen, Johnny Cypren, Jimmy Roberts, Richard Remella, Donnie Toussau, Carroll Coykendall and John Simpson.
SUGAR ALLOWANCE FOR BEE FEEDING
Only when sugar in excess of the regular OPA annual allowance of 10 pounds per colony for bee feeding is required to prevent loss of bees is it necessary for an apiarist to get the certification of the county agricultural conservation committee, Stephen Griset, chairman of the Orange county committee, advised beekeepers recently.
Applicants for the initial 10-pound allowance are requested to secure the endorsement of the county agricultural commissioner, whose office all commercial beekeepers are registered.
Family Foursome Opens Cafe On Highway 101
Bright red and green neon inscribed with "Ernie's Steakhouse, open 24 hours" marks one of Orange county's newest cafes, located across from the Drive-in theater on Highway 101, between Anaheim and Santa Ana.
Known for their excellent cuisine, Mr. and Mrs. S. F. Earnest, host and hostess of this new restaurant, also were co-owners of the Santa Ana cafe, Third and Main streets, for two years. Prior to this they owned two restaurants in Long Beach.
Betty and Barbara their two daughters, help "Mom and Pop."
Fluorescent lighting and modern streamlined equipment throughout are only two of the attractions at this new establishment. Banquet room, furnished with morocco leather booths and tables in blue with chrome trim, effectively contrast with the sparkling white walls and ceiling. Harmonizing color scheme is effected in their fountain room furnishings.
