SOCIETY NEWS B.-P. W. Honor Bosses At Gala Dinner; Ross Laird Speaker "Bosses" were special guests of the Business and Professional Women's club at their dinner meeting last Wednesday night at the Parker House, with thick steaks the piece-de-resistance of the menu. Speaker of the evening was Ross Lee Laird, former secretary of Anaheim Chamber of Commerce, and now public relations head for the Granada Packing company. Speaking on "Truth, Justice, and Tolerance," he stated casualties to the American ideals of life suffered in the past war must be revived if the American way of life is to survive, with a complete reconstruction and reconversion of spiritual, moral and intellectual life, becoming more understanding of the religious faith and the way of life of all people. "Our sensitivity of justice has been dulled during this horrible period of war. Justice and brutality have become confused. Now we must arouse our understanding and senses to real justice if a peaceful world is to exist. "It is your responsibility as a business and professional group to work for this goal so that our American leadership will become one that understands truth, justice, and tolerance; tolerance of all peoples, religions, faith and way of life." Mrs. Eva Boyd, president, presided over the meeting. Special guests of the evening Foursquare Bible Class Has Party The Bible Class of the Foursquare Church held a class party at the home of Mrs. Stevens on La Palma Street Friday night, with eighteen present. The evening was spent in singing of choruses, making speeches and in prayer. Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. Wicker and daughter, Mrs. Redmond, Mr. and Mrs. Jewett, Mrs. M. Fincham, Mr. and Mrs. N. E. Tingley, Mrs. James Harrison, Mr. and Mrs. Perkins and Mrs. Stevens and family. Anaheim High Holds Election of Officers Recently A spirited election was held on the campus of the Anaheim Union high school recently when the students of all classes flocked to the polls throughout the day to vote for their favorite song and yell leaders as well as representatives to the Student Council. The sion and yell leader teams made their bid for favor with the students at a pep assembly held in the stadium Thursday afternoon, while the candidates for the council were nominated at class meetings held on Tuesday and Wednesday and by petition. The winning team of song leaders is composed of Shirley Miller, Barbara Evans, and Barbara Hein who defeated the team composed of Barbara McMasters, Elva Clasen and Evelyn Davies. Yell leaders for the "B" games were selected as follows: Phyllis we must arouse our understanding and senses to real justice if a peaceful world is to exist. Special guests of the evening were Mrs. Eleanor McClaskey, Riverside, district president; Laura Bettis, Santa Ana, county president; and Ina Garrett, district program coordinator. The tables were beautifully decorated with large bowls of autumn flowers, with huge red and gold dahlias centering the speaker's table and arranged on the piano. Mrs. Boyd introduced members of the organization Community Chest committee and announced the southern district convention held Saturday and Sunday at the Elks clubhouse. During the entertainment of the evening, one of the bosses, Warren Ashleigh, played the piano, accompanying the entire assemblage in group singing, this portion of the program concluding the delightful evening of the Business and Professional Women in their compliment to their "Bosses". The decennial census of Canada in 1941 established the Eskimo population at 7,205. Such was the case Tuesday, October 23, when Elaine Kuchel celebrated her seventh birthday with the following guests: Diane Knutzen, Barbara Bircher, Janice Larson, Cheryl Cone, Joan Stabbert, Sally Schaeffer, Marion Taylor, Carol Fitz, Nancy Homan, and Dorothy Jean Kuchel, sister of the hostess. The girls enjoyed playing games for awhile after their arrival and then came the opening of the gifts by Elaine with many "Oh's" and "Ah's" from the guests. Refreshments of ice cream and a beautifully decorated cake with seven candles completed a happy afternoon.
