Thursday, September 18, 1945 SOCIETY WOMEN'S ACT Phone 2206 Triple Occasion Is Observed Sunday at Mrs. Miner's Home A happy gathering was present last Sunday evening when Mrs. Rilla Miner entertained members of the family and guests at a dinner party at 8 o'clock that evening at her home at 305 E. Adele street. This was a triple occasion, the hostess' birthday anniversary, noting the homecoming of her son, Sgt. Harry Miner, and announcing the engagement of Harry and Miss Lilly Gledhill, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack G. Gledhill of 411 North Emily street. A lovely table effect on gleaming white linen forming the centerpiece with a miniature bride and groom before an altar of pastel shades of flowers and lighted tapers. To further add to the loveliness, tiny white place cards holding imitation nosegays with "Lil and Harry, Sept., 1945" written on with light blue ink. Just preceding the dinner, the bride-to-be was presented with a beautiful deep orchid from her future groom. Following the dinner the balance of the evening was spent visiting and viewing the interesting colored movies that Harry's brother, George, had taken during the time Harry was in service. The pictures were of vacation activities, Christmas dinners and a number of other personal family events. To honor Mrs. Miner's birthday, the immediate family presented her with a set of patio furniture, Jo Lynn and Betty Jewel, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Bailey and family, Mrs. John Holland and daughters, Carolee and Johnie Vernie, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Gledhill and son, Jack, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus Stull and Pete Jacobs, all of Anaheim, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Richey and family, and Mrs. C. McFarren of San Bernardino, Mr. William McKinley of Brea and Mrs. Ora Lee Miner of Santa Ana. Crippled Children Assn. Board to Meet Miss E. Kate Rea has announced a meeting of the Board of Directors of the Crippled Children's Relief Association of Orange county will be held at the Parker House at 12 noon on Friday, September 14. Important business will be transacted and all board members are requested to attend. Credit Women Meet Tonight at Elks Club for Session Members and guests of the Northern Orange County Credit Women's club will meet Thursday evening (tonight) at the Elks club on North Los Angeles street, for their regular meeting. Following the dinner meeting, business will be transacted with important matters up for discussion. A drive is underway by this group of women to build the membership of their organization since they are of the opinion that Surprise Party for Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Mang on Anniversary Coming as a delightful surprise last Thursday, friends and the family of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Mang gathered at their home on Harbor blvd. to celebrate their fifteenth wedding anniversary with them. After congratulatory wishes were extended, a social evening was spent with various games and enjoyable motion pictures. Those present were Leonard and Lucille Mang, children of the honored couple, Mr. and Mrs. Rollie Crosby and son, Ronnie; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hamilton and Celia and Lloyd Hamilton, and Mrs. Martin Fischer, mother of Mrs. Mang, all of Anaheim, and Mr. and Mrs. William Everett and two children, Joyce and Ken, of Orange. At the conclusion of the evening dainty refreshments of ice cream, cookies, soft drinks and salted nuts were served to the assembled guests and the honorees. B. P. W. Club Begins Year Active Work at Meeting Wed. Night The Business and Professional Women's club of Anaheim began its year of active work at its first meeting held last night (Wednesday) at the home of Mrs Evoy Boyd at 129 South Olive street. G. Schlosser of 611 Zeyn street, returned last weekend from a short vacation spent at Palm Springs and Idyllwild. This week they are vacationing at Big Bear lake. Rebekah Lodge Has Full Program for Month of September Members were given the program for September meetings and social affairs last Friday evening when the Lois Rebekah Lodge Number 268 met at the I.O.O.F. Hall for their regular meeting. Edna Young, Noble Grand, presided over the session. Reports for past activities were given: the visit of the president of Rebekah assembly, Ethel Louderback of Orland, at Oceanside on August 21 with ten members of the Anaheim Lodge attending the meeting. The district meeting held at Westminster on August 28 was a very instructive meeting and a day full of interesting events. Berthyle Reisinger, District Deputy president, had charge of the meeting while Nell Gartin, vice-president of the assembly, was instructress. On September 5th, the Fullerton lodge was hostess to the presidents over the area when District Deputy Berthyle Reisinger and her staff put on a drill in a very creditable manner. Twenty-seven members from Anaheim lodge were present for this meeting. Miss Helen Tyron Complimented at Pre-Nuptial Party Miss Helen Tyron of Anaheim will become the bride of Wesley Woodruff, AAF, of Midway City, on Saturday night, Sept. 15 at the First Church of Christ in Fullerton and as a compliment to her approaching nuptial rites two close friends, Miss Julie Schaffer of 326 South Philadelphia street, and Miss Daisy Hartley, entertained in her honor last Thursday evening. The personal shower was held at the home of Miss Schaffer with whom the honoree has been making her home during the summer months. Nuptial games were enjoyed during the evening with prizes going to Miss Elwanda Marshall and Miss Violet Musch. The many beautifully wrapped bridal gifts were presented to the honoree in a green and white umbrella that formed the centerpiece of the bridal table from which punch and cake were later served. Sharing the evening with the hostesses and honoree were the Misses Edith Browne, Barbara Weatherman, Violet Musch, Elwanda Marshall, Lucille Hamilton, Barbara Freese and Mrs. Pauline Davey of Anaheim and the Misses Jean Barnett and Marilyn Penhall of Cypress. Bernice Kneip and O. W. Underwood Vows Exchanged Pink and Blue Shower Honors Mrs. Joe Lemons Miss Leona Willers, assisted her sister, Mrs. Carl Chansle Inglewood, honored Mrs. Lemons of Crescent avenue Friday evening when they entrained at their home at 6 North Philadelphia street with pink and blue shower. After a delightful evening games, among which was "St What a Baby Needs" and of prizes were awarded to the oree, Mrs. Lemons, Mrs. Jay nelison; Mrs. Russell Hamlyn Miss Alline Schroeder. Attractively wrapped gifts placed on a table centered "Old Mr. Stork." At the refinement course, small cakes to with the stork theme and s waxed diapers used as nut with stork design napkins pleted the decorations. Program chairman, Lena Jane Friis, presented a delightful program featuring her son, James Friis and a group of his pupils in drum, traps and marimba numbers. The first number on the program being "Universal March" dedicated to Mrs. Lola Compton by her grandson, Hoyt Platt, and was played by John Cyprien, Fred Franks, Wayne Davies and Hoyt Platt. Second number, "Military March" was played by Carol and Don Dawson. "Repoz Band" was played by Greta Kunz, Jacqueline Whiteman and Ethelyn Gregory, with the concluding musical number being "Parade of the Wooden Soldiers" by Bill Watters, Lewis Seel, Kenyon Kohne, Bill Schaeffer and David Kersten, and dedicated to the Noble Grand, Mrs. Edna Young. Delicious refreshments of sandwiches, tea and coffee were served to the members assembled by Grace Shaeffer and her committee. Bernice Kneip and O. W. Underwood Vows Exchanged BERNICE KNEIP Before an altar beautifully banked with summer flowers and with a background of organ music, Miss Bernice R. Kneip, daughter of Mrs. T. R. Kneip of 116 North Emily street, became the bride of Oscar Warren Underwood, USMC, stationed at El Toro Marine Base, last Saturday evening at St. Boniface church with the Rev. Fr. James Gallagher performing the ceremony before immediate relatives. Mrs. A. F. Faust, at the console of the organ, played the traditional processional and recessional marches. The bride was lovely in a beige suit with which she wore brown accessories and to complete her costume she carried a handkerchief that her mother, Mrs. Kneip, carried at her own wedding. She wore a white orchid corsage. The matron of honor, Mrs. Frances Parrish, was dressed in a poudre blue suit with white accessories and to complete her costume, she wore a gardenia corsage. Serving the groom as best man was his brother, William J. Williams. Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the home of Mrs. Parrish and she was assisted by the bride's mother and Mrs. Pember. A three-tiered cake, first piece cut and shared by the bride and groom, punch and ice cream was served to the assembled guests. The young couple left immediately for a three day honeymoon and have now established their home in Anaheim. The bride attended local schools while the groom is a graduate of the schools at his home in Nashville, Ark. V.F.W. Layette Gifts BOYS' DEP Navy Mothers Club to Continue Splendid Work Though hostilities have ceased the Navy Mothers' club, being a permanent organization, will continue with its activities of working for the welfare and interest of navy men, women and their families and the hospital report given at the meeting Wednesday evening of last week shows that its work is considerable. The session was held at the American Legion clubrooms. Mrs. Mahlia Bush made the hospital report that included a donation of two beautiful lap robes by Mrs. Schutz, 12 layette garments given by Mrs. Clark Scott and 26 towels, 23 garment covers, 18 pairs of slippers, seven decks of cards and numerous ash trays. Plans were made to send Christmas boxes to the sons of members who are still in service. The sewing section of the club will meet on Sept. 19 at the home of the commander, Mrs. Emma Heckman of 519 East Chartres street. Following the business meeting a musical program was presented by Margaret Steawien, soprano, who was accompanied at the piano by Dorothy Dutton. A social hour concluded the evening with light refreshments being served by Audrey Starr and her committee. A. B. Holdeman and family who have lived on route 1 for several years, have recently moved to Upland where they will make their future home. V.F.W. Future plans include the sewing group meeting on Friday, Sept. 14, at the home of Laura Tyreman on North Sabina street, and a card party that will be held at the San Fernando Veterans hospital in October. Visitors for the evening were Mrs. Ella Johnson, Mrs. Cassey Herriford, Mrs. Olive Hadley and Mrs. Callie Horton of Santa Ana and Mrs. Irene Gritens of Orange. At the social hour that concluded the evening, the auxiliary was joined by the post and refreshments were served by Mary and Agnes Hund and Laura Tyreman. Arthur Roquets onLengthy Vacation Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Roquet of 754 North Zeyn street left last week for their former home in Illinois where they will visit with relatives and close friends. They expect to be gone a month or six weeks, the trip combining both business and pleasure. Mr. Roquet recently sold his grocery store on North Lemon street and is planning at least a year's vacation before making definite future plans.
