Golden Wedding Anniversary Held at City Park The Anaheim city park, in all its summer glory, was the setting recently for the celebration of the 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. S. E. Middleton of Buena Park, who have become well known in the county during their 32 years residency. The long table was beautifully and appropriately decorated with yellow roses and centered with a large wedding cake that symbolized the happy occasion. The honored couple were presented with many lovely gifts from the 100 guests present. All of the couple's children were present with the exception of Herbert, who is in France, and one grandson, Glenn Walls, who is with the occupation forces in Germany. Mr. and Mrs. Middleton were married in Texas in 1895 and moved to California in 1911. After residing in Upland for one year they moved to Buena Park where they have since lived. Children present were: Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Middleton, Mr. and Mrs. F. B., Walls, Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Wilcox and two daughters, Mrs. Lurli Hawkins and three children and Mr. and Mrs. Gus Middleton. Others present were: Mr. and Mrs. E. Nickle, Mr. and Mrs. Frank McManus and sons, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Insco, Mr. and Mrs. D. B. Craven, Mrs. Marie Hayson, Mrs. McKinney and grandson, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Carr. The bride was attractively gowned in a poudre blue afternoon dress with which she wore a rose and gardenia corsage. She was attended by her sister, Mrs. A. E. Cheek of this city, who was smartly frocked in black dinner dress. She wore a gardenia corsage. Seaman First Class Don Lehmer, who is home on leave, attended the bridegroom as best man. Following the ceremony a reception was held at the home of the bridegroom's parents. Mrs. Franzen, Mrs. Hook and an aunt of the bride, Mrs. Alice Rowland of Lancaster, Calif., assisted with the serving of the wedding cake and beverages. The bridegroom has recently returned from six months in the European theater of operations and yesterday (Wednesday) reported to Camp Beale for further assignment. The bride will be a senior student at the Anaheim Union High school this fall. She has taken an active part in campus music activities and is a member of the Mozart club, the Senior Glee club and the White Temple Methodist church choir. Pfc. Franzen graduated from the high school in the class of 1942 and entered the Army in 1943. Reception Marks Silver Wedding Anniversary Lighted white tapers and silver appointments marked the 25th Wacker-Eltiste Rites Solemnized At Wedding Chapel First Class Petty Officer at Mrs. Lorenz Eltiste have returned from a brief honeymoon following their marriage last Saturday at the Capilla de San Antonio. For the remainder of their time here they will visit with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Wacker of Orange and Mrs. A. Mrs. August Eltiste of Anaheim. The quiet six o'clock ceremony was performed in the presence of the immediate family and a few close friends. R.W.C.Gesch, pastor of the Orange Lutheran church, read service. The chapel altar was artistically banked with white gladiator dahlias and lighted white tapestry in candelabra. Mrs. A.F.Faith played a prelude of favorite musical melodies and the tradition of wedding marches. The bride was given in marriage by her father, and wore smart fuchsia wool frock with navy accessories. She carried white sation prayer book and two white orchids. Miss Jane Grady of Anaheim was her only attendant and we had a gray suit with navy accessories and a corsage of pink carnation. Robert Lambert of Huntington Beach, Coast Guardsman, acted best man. Following the ceremony a reception was held in the gardens with guests being received by members of the bridgemen's association. Children present were: Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Middleton, Mr. and Mrs. F. Dean-Franzen Vows Exchanged At White Temple A quiet ceremony united two of the city's well-known young people last Friday evening when Miss Loretta Dean, daughter of Mrs.Evelyn Hook of 219 3rd South street,Anaheim,became the bride of Pfc.Walfrid Floyd Franzen,son of Mr. and Mrs.A.W.Franzen of 417 North Claudina street.The seven o'clock single ring ceremony was read in the White Temple sanctuary by Rev.Hayden Sears,pastor,in the presence of twenty relatives and intimate friends. Layette Gifts Reception Marks Silver Wedding Anniversary Lighted white tapers and silver appointments marked the 25th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs.Roy Hale of Valencia avenue,Placentia;last Saturday when they entertained with a reception at their home.Approximately 85 guests attended the afafir. Mrs.Ivan Rhoades of Fullerton,sister of Mrs.Hale,and the latter's two daughters,the Misses Bonnie and Marilyn Hale,assisted in hostess duties. The fireplace mantle was banked with a profusion of gladioli,dahlias and lighted blue tapers while the lace covered reception table was centered with a large silver bowl filled with white gladiolus and flanked with white tapers in silver holders. Presiding over the punch bowl were Miss Bonnie Hale and Miss Betty Dunham of Indio,niece of the honored couple.Miss Shirley Hemmerling assisted with the serving while Miss Marilyn Hale took charge of the guest book. An unusual feature of the occasion was the presence of all but one of the wedding party.Mr.和Mrs.Hale were married in Placentia in the garden patio at the home ofMr.和Mrs.John Tuffree. Besides the two daughters already mentioned the immediate family circle also includes another daughter,Mary Jane,and two sons,Robert Hale of Placentia,and Roy Jr.,who is in the Marines. Wave Barbara Heying Home on Ten-Day Leave After an absence of 14 months,WAVE Barbara Heying,daughter ofMr.和Mrs.Oscar Heying of North Clementine street,came home Tuesday on a 10-day leave before reporting to San Francisco on August 18.She has been assigned to the Hawaiian naval district and expects to leave the states soon for duty in the Islands. Barbara is a pharmacist's mate second class and has been stationed at the Mozart club,the Senior Glee cluband the White Temple Methodist church choir. Young Crowd Has Horseback Ride And Weiner Bake One of the real "fun"part of the week was given Tuesday night by the special service brand of the SAAAB and it was enjoyed by eight Anaheim girls.Meeting at the air base the girls ate eight members of the AAF enjoyed a nine-mile early eventhorseback ride to a lagoonnear the beach and upon their rival spent an entertaining evening around a campfire whenthey enjoyed a weiner bake. Miss Ruth Demaree,daughter ofMr.和Mrs.Paul Demareeof this city,and an employeeofthe air base,assisted in the pararrangements. Those sharing the evening wether from Anaheim included Misses Shirley Harling,Phyllerman,Ruth Thatcher,MariaHarpster,Jean Wilson,Betty Hamiltonand Gania Demaree. CENTER Anaheim Ten-Day Leave After an absence of 14 months, WAVE Barbara Heying, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Heying of North Clementine street, came home Tuesday on a 10-day leave before reporting to San Francisco on August 18. She has been assigned to the Hawaiian naval district and expects to leave the states soon for duty in the Islands. Barbara is a pharmacist's mate second class and has been stationed at the naval hospital in Bainbridge, Maryland. She is hoping that her brother, Pvt. John Heying, who is stationed at Camp Roberts, will be able to be here this weekend for a family reunion. He spent last weekend at home, it being his first visit here since he was sent to the northern base. He enlisted in the Army last June. Former Resident To Wed Garden Grove Girl Sept. 2 Another engagement of interest to residents of this city has been made known with the announcement that Miss Alice Helms, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Helms of Garden Grove, and Wright Fearn, son of Mrs. William Hall of Fullerton, are to be married on Sept. 2 at the Capilla de San Antonio. The bridegroom-elect formerly made his home in Anaheim and is a graduate of the Anaheim union high school and Fullerton junior college. He is now employed with the Southern California Edison company. The bride-elect is a graduate of the Garden Grove high school and is employed at the Garden Grove First National bank. Navy Mothers Commended for Hospital Solarium The Navy Mothers club was gratified last week to learn that the solarium they completely equipped in July at the Corona Naval hospital is to be used as a future model. A letter of commendation, highly praising their work, was read Wednesday evening of last week when the club met in regular monthly session at the Legion clubrooms with Commander H. H. Heckman presiding. The solarium was attractively outfitted in leatherette furniture and the club is most appreciative of the fine cooperation given them. Lois Rebekah Lodge Plans for Future Events Plans for a number of future events were made last Friday evening when the Lois Rebekah lodge met in the lodge rooms with Noble Grand Edna Young and her corps of officers presiding for the first time since their installation. A reminder was given of the all-day district meeting that will be held at Westminster Aug. 28, beginning at 10 a.m. Luncheon and dinner will be served by the ladies of the Presbyterian church and reservations must be made with Helen Pannier before Aug. 20. Mrs. Nelle Gartin, vice president of Rebekah assembly of Huntington Park will be the instructress. The past noble grands' family night will be held at the city park on Aug. 9 at 6:30 o'clock. Members were reminded that the lodge will assist with cookies and cakes for the USO the week beginning Aug. 19. Tentative plans were made for a penny supper on Sept. 11. Mrs. Ruby Kirklee, formerly of Bowbells, N. D., became a member by transfer. During a recess, Mrs. Lena Jane Friis, program chairman, presented Lynn Rae Barnes and Rudy Riviera of Brea in tap dance numbers while the former also presented a piano solo, "The Waterfall." Lynn Rae is a niece of the noble grand and dedicated the numbers to her aunt. Material for the towels were furnished by the hospital but made by the club members. Donations to unit 3 included 10 pair of slippers, four ash trays, eight decks of playing cards and three airplane kits plus the necessary tooling equipment. Seventeen pair of slippers, donated by the Orangeblossom club and two lap robes were taken to the Long Beach Naval hospital. New project for the club is the making of uniform garment protectors for patients at Corona Naval hospital. The hospital chapel also notified the club that more slippers are needed and ash trays, cribbage boards, poker chips, playing cards and single-edge razor blades. Everybody reads the Gazette. Has Informal Summer Outing Another of the informal summer gatherings of the Northern Orange County Pan-Hellenic association was held Monday evening at the home of Joyce Harris on West Amerige street, Fullerton. Taking advantage of the warm summer evenings the potluck supper was held in the garden and afterward the group made washcloths for the Red Cross. In a brief business session Virginia Critchfield of Anaheim, president, announced that Jean Wickett of Fullerton had resigned as treasurer and in her place appointed Ruth Marie Gruber of La Habra Heights to fill out the unexpired term. BACK FROM SALT LAKE Miss Ruby B. Ellett has recently returned from Salt Lake City where she has been visiting with her parents. She is employed at the Blue Note music store.
