2-Year-Old Randall Ross Drowns in Park Lagoon
Searching for the beautiful lovely things that all little children love, two-year-old Ross, son of Mr. and Mrs. Linton Ross of 811 North Tow street, lost his life by drowning last Monday night in the park when he fell into one of beautiful lagoons in the end of the park. Perhaps it a delicate water lily or a fading gold fish that he sought while he wandered away from the city family party that was picking in the park—none will know nor will it ever be known how long he was in the city before his body was found.
Randy was at the park his mother and father, his year-old sister, Sherrol, and paternal grandmother, Mrs. nita Ross, when he strayed from the group. His father to have played baseball in evening with the Church lea team.
Another picnicker discovered the body and ran for a plaid life guard who administered aid. The fire department, Chief R. Nyboe, worked over for several hours with an infantator, before he was pronounced dead by the attending physician An ambulance was summoned immediately and the boy taken to the Anaheim Sanitarium but he never regained consciousness.
Besides his parents and siblings and paternal grandmother, he survived by his maternal great parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Bler.
Funeral services will be held Backs, Campbell and Kaul chapel Saturday morning at a.m., with Rev. Stanley F. Ge

CHRISTIAN SCIENCE
"Truth" will be the subject of the Sunday Lesson-Sermon in all branches of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston. The Golden Text is from the Psalms: "O Lord God of hosts, who is a strong Lord like unto thee? . . Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne; mercy and truth shall go before thy face."
A Scriptural passage from Luke relates that "a man . . . cried out saying, Master, I beseech thee, look upon my son: for he is mine only child. And, lo, a spirit taketh him, and he suddenly crieth out; . . . And Jesus . . . said, . . . Bring thy son hither. And as he was yet a coming, the devil threw him down and tare him. And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him again to his father. And they were all amazed at the mighty power of God."
Mary Baker Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures:" "If sickness is real, it belongs to immortality; if true, it is a part of Truth. But if sickness and sin are illusions, the awakening from this mortal dream, or illusion, will bring us into health, holiness, and immortality."

Funeral services will be held Backs, Campbell and Kaul chapel Saturday morning at a.m., with Rev. Stanley F. Geiger pastor of the First Presbyterian church, officiating. Interment will follow in Loma Vista cemetery.
Ration Book '5' to Be Out in December
War ration book No. 5 is one way and will be distributed through the public schools in December, Frank S. Balthis, Jr., district director, announced day.
Simultaneously with the distribution, the new "A" gasoline book will be issued, Bairstated.
Smaller than a dollar bill, and the size of a small check book and containing just half as many stamps as the last book the food and shoe ration book prove more convenient to carry and handle.
Distribution will take place throughout the nation from March 3 through Dec. 15. OPA districts offices will fix the exact size for each local area. The new gasoline books will go into Dec. 22, and war ration book will be used soon after the end of the year for food rationing for rationing shoes.
"We hope the new book will last in the series of war ration books and that there will be plenty of stamps we would have to use. We cannot gain too heavily on that, though, so many months are required to bring a book into being," he added.
The new all-purpose ration book is exactly one-half the size of present ration books (books 3 to 4), and contains 192 stamps compared with 384 in book 4.
At the current rate of many stamps good—five red stamps five blue stamps at the beginning of each month—war ration book 5 can last, if needed, at a rate of 15 months.
One hundred and fifty mil copies of book 5 are now printed. The book will contain 48 red stamps numbered from through 58 for use in the meat-program. There will be 48 white stamps.

Council Orders
1945 Census Be Taken for City
The city council ordered Tuesday night that arrangements be made for taking a census in Anaheim in 1945. The census taking will be done under the supervision of federal authorities and will start as soon as possible—probably late in the summer or early next fall.
The last census was taken in 1940 and at that time showed that Anaheim had a population of slightly over 11,000. As gas tax monies and other allocations are based on the official figure it will be to Anaheim's benefit to be able to officially show a larger population figure. Estimates of various officials place the present figure at approximately 14,000.
Two bids on cast iron water pipe were awarded, the first to the National Cast Iron Pipe company for 4500 feet of four-inch pipe of 18-foot length at .616 per foot, f.o.b. to Anaheim, at a cost of $2772.
The second bid was awarded to the U.S. Pipe and Foundry company for 2500 feet of six-inch cast-iron pipe of 18-foot length at .93 per foot, f.o.b. to Anaheim, at a cost of $2371.50. It is expected that the pipe will be delivered about the middle of November.

Year-Old Randy Ross Drowns in Park Lagoon
Searching for the beautiful and lovely things that all little chill-love, two-year-old Randy Ross, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leigh-Ross of 811 North Topeka, lost his life by drowning Monday night in the city when he fell into one of the tuffish lagoons in the north of the park. Perhaps it was illicit water lily or a flash-gold fish that he sought when wandering away from the hap-family party that was picnick-in the park—none will ever nor will it ever be known long he was in the water where his body was found.
Randy was at the park with mother and father, his four-old sister, Sherrol, and his normal grandmother, Mrs. Jua-Ross, when he strayed away in the group. His father was have played baseball in the ring with the Church league.
Another picnicker discovered body and ran for a plunge guard who administered first. The fire department, under F.R. Nyboe, worked over him several hours with an inhalation before he was pronounced by the attending physician. Ambulance was summoned immediately and the boy was启 to the Anaheim Sanitarium the never regained consciousness.

Citizens Must Help Avert Forest Fires
The part the individual citizen can and should play in preventing forest, woods and range fires will be the keynote of the fourth nationwide Wartime Forest Fire Prevention program scheduled to begin August first. The program this year will be conducted at the request of the nation's armed forces by state forestry and conservation agencies in cooperation with the Forest Service, Department of Agriculture, according to Ranger Munhall.
Forestry officials estimate that 970,000 man-days of labor were drawn from various sources, largely war industries and farms, to fight forest, woods, and range fires in 1944. Such a labor loss in wartime is obviously a threat to speedy victory, they point out.
In addition to manpower and man-days of labor lost in fighting man-made and therefore preventable forest and woods fires, the federal forest service stressed the urgency of halting the unintentional sabotage of the country's wood resources because timber products were at the top of the list of raw material problems in 1944. Lumber production was 2,-900,000,000 feet less than consumption, and the serious shortage of wood, from which paper is made, is reflected in the tight paper situation prevailing in the publishing and paper products industries.
Forest service officials point out that yearly fires kill enough timber to build 215,000 five-room houses or to make 5,700,000 tons of newsprint.
Nine out of every ten of these fires are caused by American citizens who are honest and patriotic but—careless and thoughtless in forest, woods, and range areas" he added. Yet "there are only four simple rules that need be remembered—and applied—to remedy this tragic situation. They are:
1. Crush out your cigarette, cigar or pipe ashes.
2. Break your match in two.
3. Drown your campfire, stir, then drown again.
4. If you must build fires outdoors, first ask if the law requires a permit, next, have help handy, and last, kill every spark."
SHIPBUILDING TIME LESS
Ten to 12 months were required in 1917-18 to build an oceangoing ship. Liberty ships, although a third larger, were built in 1943 in as little as 16 days in regular production in one of the most throughout the state.
Two-way "walkie-talkie" radios have also been issued by the War department and will be assigned to the communications detachments that are now being schooled under the direction of Captain Harold W. Hartman, communications officer of the adjutant general's department.
Brigadier General Hanson, the adjutant general, recently issued urgent orders to all commanders to bring units up to full authorized strength to meet current problems of internal security.
