WHITE TEMPLE CONGREGATION HOLDS RECEPTION FOR OLD AND NEW PASTORS
Two hundred members of the White Temple Methodist church gathered last Thursday evening to bid farewell to Rev. Thomas L. Burden who has just moved to Los Angeles to become pastor of the West Adams church and to welcome their new pastor and his wife, Rev. and Mrs. Hayden Sears, who have arrived here from El Centro.
Guests were greeted in the downstairs recreational rooms by a receiving line composed of Mrs. Ivan R. Grizzle, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Demaree, Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Gauer, Mr. Burden and his sister-in-law, Mrs. Ruby Griffith, and Mr. and Mrs. Sears.
The reception room was beautifully decorated with large baskets of coral gladioli and greenery while the tea table was centered with gladioli and iris, lighted pink tapers and greenery.
Mr. Demaree acted as master of ceremonies for the evening's program and Lyman D. Harpster made the farewell address to Mr. Burden in which he expressed the deep appreciation the congregation felt for him and the fine work he accomplished during his five years here. Rev. C. H. Archibald, president of the Ministerial Union, also lauded Mr. Burden for the active part he had taken in the Union's affairs and for the enterprise he had shown in civic affairs.
Mr. Gauer welcomed Rev. Sears to Anaheim and the church. Both honored guests gave brief talks in response and told something about their past work and hopes for the future.
The choir, directed by Mrs. Donald Rees, opened the program by singing "Kamennoi Ostrow" by Rubenstein with violin obligatto.
County Federated Clubs Has Summer Conference
Summer conference of Orange County Women's clubs was held last Friday at the Santa Ana Ebell club with Mrs. Arthur May presiding as federation president. She stressed the theme of the meeting by urging women to use their enormous power to direct the action of American people and eventually of other countries in the administration of justice.
She also reported on the summer conference held in Los Angeles. Mrs. Smith, district vice president, reported on the southern district conference at Riverside and Mrs. Walter Hanson told of her experience in visiting several sessions of the conference in San Francisco.
County presidents and chairmen were introduced and gave brief talks. Presented from Anaheim were Mrs. J. W. Wilson, health and nutrition; Mrs. C. E. Chamberlain, emblems and seals; Mrs. A. L. Raymond, historian and presidents; Mrs. A. E. Schumacher, Anaheim Ebell club, and Mrs. C. W. Austin, Las Amigas club.
Other county chairmen introduced were Mrs. Robert Campbell, Mrs. Victor Grace, Newport Beach Ebell; Mrs. James E. Duggan, Orange Woman's club; Mrs. E. H. Smith, Orange Council Speakers forum; Mrs. Walter Diner, Placentia Round Table; M.Kyle Lyon, Santa Ana Ebell; M.Harry Brackett, Santa Ana Woman's club; Mrs. Hubert Tyler Seal Beach Woman's club; M.Mabel Snodgrass, District 16; California State Nurses association; Mrs. Richard Clute, Santa Ana Junior Woman's club.
Donna Jeanne Grigg presented a musical group accompanied this piano by Miss Tompkins.
Tea concluded the affair with M.Lyon and Mrs. D.E.Liggett poining.
Mary Joan Alden Honored for USC Activities
Miss Mary Joan Alden, daughter of Mr.'s and Mrs.'s F.R.Alden of 601 South Claudina street home for the summer follow completion of her sophomore year at the University of Southern California. The year was a brilliant one for Miss Alden who was pronounced the most outstanding student and actress in the drama department, an honor that is usually reserved for a senior student.
Recognition of her work further noted when the announcement appeared among the awardees chosen from the university appear last week in a contest the May company.

The choir sang two other numbers later in the evening, "The Silent Sea" by Neidlinger and "My Faith Looks Up to Thee."
"Smiling Thru" and "Star Dust" were sung by Miss Edith Brown and William Fackiner, accompanied by his wife, sang "On the Road to Mandalay" and "Morning" by Oley Speaks. A medley of service songs were played on the accordion by Miss Carrol Bostick after which Mr. Fackiner and Mrs. Rees sang "Will You Remember" and two encores, "The Song of Love" and "Auf Wiedersehn."
Delicious refreshments were served by Mrs. Nellie Harpstern chairman, and her committee, Mrs. Norman Tessner, Mrs. M. A. Gauer and Mrs. Richard Dickenson. Mrs. Mervin Miller was in charge of decorations assisted by Mrs. Gene Frantz.
S. F. Hilgenfeld Elected Head of Alumni Group
S. F. Hilgenfeld of Anaheim was named president of the Alumni Association of Southern California of North Central college, Naperville, Ill., last Saturday when a large group gathered at the city park for a picnic. Miss Christine Brunemeier of Placentia was named secretary.

Wesley Methodist WSCS Has All Day Session
WSCS members of the West Methodist church gathered in day session last Thursday at church and devoted the morning hours to completing their study book Leaders were E.L.Hatcher,Mrs.Emma Pailey and Mrs.L.D.Goodyear.A study book will be started in August "Leaves for the Healing Nation."
Members were reminded that the organization is collected food for the Thornton Terrace home for retired ministers missionaries and on church officials.
Hostesses for the noon lunchcheon were Mrs.McConnell and Mrs.T.Pritchard.
The devotional hour was by Mrs.M.M.Oldham who presided over the afternoon bness session.
VFW Auxiliary Elects Delegates To Conclave

Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Thatcher of 924 North Olive street are announcing the recent marriage of their daughter, Miss Jessie Thatcher, to Ensign William W. Coldren of New York, Pa. The marriage took place June 15 at a church ceremony in Towson, Md.
Ensign and Mrs. Coldren have established their new home in Jacksonville, Fla., following his recent transfer from Corpus Christi, Texas. He is in the Naval Air corps.
The bride was employed at the Southern California Telephone Co. prior to her marriage. A graduate of the Anaheim Union High school, she took a prominent part in musical activities on the campus.

In lodge rooms attractively
decorated with bouquets and baskkets of flowers, two new members
were initiated into the Lois Rebekah lodge last Friday evening
and one was accepted as a transfer. Mrs. Audie Raymond and
Miss Lillian Brown were initiated
and Miss Letha Weber became a
member of this lodge through transfer.
The impressive ceremony was
conducted by Mrs. Clara Burns,
noble grand, and her staff of officers. Special guests present for the occasion were six members from the lodge at Oceanside.
During the business meeting
Bertheyle Reisinger, district deputy president, gave the semiannual reports and also announced that she and her staff would conduct installation services on Tuesday evening, July 10,
at Westminster; July 11 at Santa Ana; July 13 at Huntington Beach; July 14 at Santa Ana; July 16 at Orange; July 18 at Fullerton and July 20 at Anaheim.

The Nebraska annual summer basket picnic will be held in Bixby Park, Long Beach, Saturday, July 14. The Long Beach Municipal band will play at 1 o'clock and F. C. Meyer will speak on "Nebraska Prosperity." Welcome will be given by City Councilman Burton Chace. Free coffee with a Nebraska badge. Registration by counties. Food for sale on the grounds.

Rites Solemnized
in Garden Chapel
Garden of the Capilla de San Antonio on Highway 101 was the setting for the beautiful ceremony that united Miss Mary Margaret Clower and Second Lieut. John Stewart Alden, U. S. Army, in marriage last Saturday afternoon. The four o'clock double ring ceremony was performed by Rev. Hayden Sears of the White Temple Methodist church in the presence of 80 guests.
Large baskets of white gladioli,
larkspur and lighted tapers in tall candelabra were used as altar decorations. As they exchanged their wedding vows the bride and bridegroom knelt on white satin pillows.
Preceding the ceremony James Fris played nuptial music on the organ console and Miss Edith Browne sang, "I Love You Truly",
"O Promise Me" and "Always."
An aisleway formed by tall baskets of white blossoms and a white carpet marked the path of the bride who was given in marcarried a nosegay of pink buds.

were Lt. John Doran and Edward Hannon, USMC.
Following the ceremony were greeted by the bridal table with a lace cloth and cedar with a beautiful arrangement of summer blossoms and taperers. The bride and grove shared the first plow wedding cake after which serving was completed by Margaret Buttree. Miss Tret Gauer presided at the bowl.
During their brief honors the bridal couple will visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clower of Dallas, Texas, and then continue to New York where he is stationed.
The bride is a graduate Texas State College for V at Denton, Tex., and has returned from a year's service the South Pacific with the Cross. It was in Darwin, alia, that the young couple met.
He is a graduate of the heim Union High school which he attended Occidentalelege and the University of Erin California. In both school and college he prominent part in athletic campus activities. He the army in 1942.

Wesley Methodist CS Has All Day Session
CS members of the Wesley Methodist church gathered in all session last Thursday at the church and devoted the morning to completing their present book. Leaders were Mrs. Hatcher, Mrs. Emma Payne, Mrs. L. D. Goodyear. A new book will be started in Auction "Leaves for the Healing of an Illness."
Members were reminded that organization is collecting food for the Thorbern home for retired ministries and other officials.
Stresses for the noon covered luncheon were Mrs. M. M.annell and Mrs. T. Pritchard. Devotional hour was led Mrs. M. M. Oldham who also added over the afternoon business session.
W Auxiliary Acts Delegates Conclave
Ms. Myrtle Mallin and Mrs. Jie Reagan were elected delegate to the national convention Thursday evening when members of the VFW auxiliary reded at the clubrooms in registration. If the convention held due to wartime concerns the delegates will cast by mail. Alternates elect-were Mrs. Opal Walters and Susan Whippo.

Announcements revealed that the Thimble club will hold a covered dish supper at the city park on the evening of July 24. The Past Noble Grand club will meet on the evening of July 31 at the home of Msr. Carrie Mennis on North Palm street.
The evening was concluded with the serving of light refreshments in the dining hall. Members and guests were seated at long tables decorated with many pretty floral arrangements. Refreshments were served by Lizzie Nylon and her committee.
Mrs. Hattie Peck Returns From Visit in Beaumont
Mrs. Hattie E. Thayer Peck, 80, of 506 East Broadway, has returned to her home following a two weeks' vacation in Beaumont with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Thayer, who are formerly of this city and Garden Grove.
The visit was particularly enjoyable as it was the height of the cherry season. As her son owns a cherry orchard she was greatly interested in the many and varied activities that are necessary in harvesting the crop.
While there she enjoyed a day's trip to Palm Springs and also a visit with Mr. and Mrs. F. S. Hineman who formerly lived in Anaheim.
Mr. Thayer is a veteran of World War I and World War II. He received his discharge from the Navy last year. His son, Jim, is now on sea duty with the Navy.
