Boy Scout Council shows Big Growth during Past Year During the first full year of organization the Northern Orange County Council of Boy Scouts made a spectacular growth, it is known in the annual report just omitted. From June, 1944, to June, 1945, there was an increase of 10 troops; 201 Boy Scouts; 67 outers; six cub packs; 204 cubs and 60 cubbers; 202 leaders and 22 Boy Scouts; 202 leaders and units. During the year just completed the following awards were made: 30 tenderfoot badges; 81 second class badges; 13 first class badges; a star awards; 8 life badges; 3 single palms and 258 merit badges. One of the most outstanding activities of the year was the Boy Scout aid in the nationally conducted Waste Paper drive. During March and April scouts in this council collected a total of 1,995 pounds of waste paper saw to it that the paper rushed the supply houses. One hundred and fourteen Scouts have joined the Eisenhower individual medal and three troops will receive troop awards. The individuals medals are given to scouts collecting 1,000 pounds of waste paper and all troops collecting 100 pounds per boy in the troop to receive a shell container burned from the fighting front with General Eisenhower's signature upon it. The Troops have taken an active part in the war loan drives as well as in individual troop activities. Junior Librarian Announces New Summer Program Those school students who plan on participating in the Junior library program at the Anaheim Public library this summer will find themselves "Jolly Rogers" bound on a treasure hunt, Miss Elva Haskett, junior librarian announced this week. The treasure hunt will start the day school ends and will not be completed until the end of summer vacation. A treasure chest will repose in the junior library and will be filled with coins that will give directions for hunting the treasure. The treasure, of course, will be interesting books and in their pages will be found many an adventure. When the reader has completed his first book he will receive a "ship's log" in which he will keep his treasure findings. Davy Jones lockers will also be provided each school and when the children have completed their reading quota a nail will be placed in the locker to secure the treasure. Upper grade children will be required to read 10 books and lower grade students will be asked to read six books. Each Thursday afternoon between June 28 and August 23 Miss Haskett will conduct a story telling hour as she has done in past years. Enjoys Weiner Bake at Park Brownie Troop 19 of Broadway school enjoyed a final party of the year on Monday afternoon when members, troop leaders and mothers went to the city park for a weiner bake. Party arrangements were made by Miss Margaret Simpson, teacher, and troop leaders Mrs. Niles Fiscus and Mrs. U. S. Hobbs. Others present were Mrs. Louis Morales, Mrs. R. H. Decker, Mrs. H. R. Hineman, Mrs. Vera Darling and Mrs. Ed Ellis and Vera Lynn Darling, Grotchen Decker, Nadine Parcell, Isabel Ursua, Joan Hobbs, Patty Hacken, Penny Hineman, Mary Maldonada, Joan Patterson, Rella Cherry, Carolyn Fiscus, Dorothy Persons, Priscilla Lopez, Nancy Lee Morales, Ophelia Tovar and Carol Ellis.
