Grove Sold to Long Beach Man For $28,000 A 10-acre orange grove and home on Stanton boulevard between Ball road and Orange avenue has been sold by Herman William Dargatz to Walter A. Wier of Long Beach. The grove was sold for a reported consideration.of $28,000. It is reported that Wier intends to raze the house and plant the entire acreage in oranges. Vacation Church School Opens for Two Weeks June 18 Anticipating an enrollment of 1000 boys and girls, Anaheim's seventh annual Vacation Church school will open Monday, June 18 at 9 a.m. and will be in session each Monday through Friday for two weeks. Sponsored by the Ministerial Union the school is free to all children between the ages of 4 and 14 with nursery school for children under 4. Rev. Earl R. Berg will be superintendent. Because of the increasing attendance each year the church school will be held in three separate churches this summer: Bethel Baptist, Salem Evangelical and First Presbyterian and will consist of five separate departments. The school hours will be from 9 a.m. until 12 o'clock noon though bugle call and lining up will commence at 8:50 a.m. Thirty trained superintendents and teachers from the Lockman Foundation will supplement approximately 40 administrators, secretaries and other workers from the local churches. Considered one of the finest vacation church schools in the state the Ministerial Union is hoping that parents will take advantage of this opportunity and make it possible for their children to attend the sessions. Callison of 1220 W. Diamond St., is receiving recruit training at the Marine Corps base, San Diego, after being enrolled in that branch of the service. Private Callison was formerly employed by the U.S. Naval Dry Docks as a marine pipefitter. S/Sgt. F.E. Augburn Now at SAAAB Awaiting Orders SANTA ANA, Calif. — (Special)—Staff Sgt. Frenklin E. Augburn, 20-year-old Army Air Forces aerial gunner of route 2, Anaheim, who flew 35 missions aboard a B-24 Liberator bomber of the 15th Air Force in the Mediterranean area of the European theater of operations, currently is at the AAF redistribution station here while awaiting a new assignment. The young gunner, who only recently returned from overseas, has been awarded the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters and three battle stars to his ETO ribbon. He entered the service Oct. 27, 1942, and went overseas in July, 1944, where he took part in missions against the Ploesti oil fields in Romania, and aircraft plants at Vienna and Budapest. Sgt. Augburn, who was an employee o the Douglas plant at Long Beach when he entered the Army, formerly was a student at Anaheim Union High school. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank P. Augburn. Charles F. Carr Wins Praise for Pfc. John A. Kay Helping Redeploy AAF to Far East Pfc. John A. Kay of 1217 Lincoln avenue, is in Italy helping in the vital task of redeploying our air force strength to the Far East. With the 907th Signal Co department, AVN of an air force general depot, Pfc. Kay and all personnel of this large depot began the difficult task immediately after hearing the victory and nouncement. The depot was organized at key Italian port in October, 1943 shortly after allied occupation and has been instrumental in supply ing and maintaining the 12th and 15th Air Forces during the entire Italian campaign. Depot personnel supported the air forces phase of the battle for Cassino, the Anzio landing and the final shattering offensive that destroyed 2 German divisions in the Po valley. Raymond F. Cruz Has Promotion FIFTEENTH AAF IN ITALY — Raymond F. Cruz, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. F. Cruz, 315 West Chestnut avenue, Anaheim, engi neer-gunner on a B-24 Liberato bomber of the 15th Air Force, has been promoted to the grade o technical sergeant. The announcement was made by Cql. Leroy L Stefonowicz, Wildrose, N. D., the group commander. Since arriving overseas last November, Sgt. Cruz has flowered 23 combat missions against enemy installations throughout six European countries. He wears the Al Medal with one bronze cluster "for meritorious achievement . . . while participating in sustained opera." Public Invited To Missionary Talks Missionaries Orley and Mrs. Ford will be guest speakers of the "Hour of Prophecy" at the Ebell club in Anaheim, Saturday night, June 2. Mrs. Ford, dressed in Indian costume, will speak to the junior boys and girls at 6:30 p.m. Mr. Ford will speak in the main auditorium at 8 p.m. The Fords have spent 27 years as Seventh-day Adventist missionaries among the various Indian tribes of South and Central America. This is their last public appearance before their return to the mission field June 4. Mr. Ford will be mission director of the Salvador mission on his return. Missionary Ford will illustrate his lecture with over 400 kodachrome slides taken by himself. He has had many exciting experiences during his field mission work and on numerous occasions has been called upon to render emergency medical aid. His talk will include an account of these experiences and the public is cordially invited to attend both of the evening lectures. NEPHEW LIBERATED Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Fergus have received word that their nephew, Edgar, Fergus has been liberated from the German prison camp and expects to return to his home in Indiana very soon. He has many friends in Anaheim who will be glad to hear of the happy news. Everybody reads The Gazette. Charles F. Carr Wins Praise for Combat Action WASHINGTON, D. C.—Coast Guardsman Charles F. Carr, yeoman third class, of 719 South Emily street, Anaheim, was one of the crew members of a coast guard manned LST, who received high praise from his commanding officer for his conduct in the invasions of Leyte and Mindoro. In speaking of the crew of this ship, the commanding officer said, "I have come to know these men well. I respect all of them for their attitude and actions have demanded the respect and admiration of all fair minded men. I believe it can truthfully be said that no ship, regardless of size of fire power ever fought more desperately to survive." Charles F. Carr has just turned in the states after a tour of sea duty. DON MAXON IN STATES Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Maxon of 736 North Olive street had a telephone call recently from their son, Don who is now in a New York army hospital. He has just arrived in the states from England where he had been in a hospital for the past four months. He was wounded while fighting with the invasion forces on the European continent. Don indicated that he intended to be headed for the west coast very soon. The biggest individual increase in the consumer credit field in 1944 over 1943 was in charge accounts. Harold R. Davies With Seabees in Hawaiian Islands Harold R. Davies, on Anaheim stationed with the Seabees at the Naval Air station, Honolulu, has been advanced to machinist mate, first class. Davis is operations supervisor and in charge of vehicle allocation with the transportation department of the air base. Son Born to Ensign and Mrs. Jack D. Stiefel Ensign and Mrs. Jack D.
