Feted at Pretty
Bridal Shower
One of Anaheim's most popular brides-to-be was feted again last Friday evening when Mrs. Harry Fackiner and daughter, Mrs. Donald Rees, entertained at a miscellaneous shower for Miss Helen Pifer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs James Pifer of this city. The lovely party was held at the home of Mrs. Harry Fackiner, mother of the bridegroom-elect, William Fackiner.
The honoree was presented with a lovely gardenia corsage upon her arrival. Pink and white snapdragons and stock were attractively arranged about the rooms and on the tea table where Mrs. James Pifer poured at the refreshment hour later in the evening.
During the evening guests enjoyed a number of hilarious games including a "honeymoon horoscope" and a clever game of "the ideal mate." For the game "scramble ambie" prizes were awarded to the honoree for high score and Mrs. Fred Edwards for second high while Mrs. Wilbert Bonney won consolation.
Refreshments were then served from the pretty tea table and included daintily decorated ice cream cakes in the pink and white motif.
Following refreshments the hostesses brought in a large clothes-basket that was covered with pink and white crepe paper and tied with large cellophane bows. The basket was piled high with many lovely gifts for Arch Henry, Frank Pletrok, Robert Perryman, Gilbert Serr, Carroll Yonge, A. C. Ruitcel, Clarence Wagner, Robert Fackiner, Ralph Focht, Fred Edwards, Lyman Harpster, E. S. Williamson, John Bestall, Edward Jewett, Zena Loveland, Guy Pitney, Wilbert Bonney, Dr. Dorothy Jordt of Anaheim and Joseph Hancock of Orange.
Those sending gifts who were unable to attend were the Mesdames Harold Oelke of Laguna Beach and George Henry, M. A. Gauer, Thomas Hedges, Margaret Buttree, Frank Pratt, L. P. Nichlos, Shirely Oelke and Mary Harpster of Anaheim and Tex Franklin of Culver City.
Mothers' Club Of Presbyterian Church Meets
Mrs. Virginia Critchfield resigned as president of the Presbyterian Mother's club on Wednesday evening of last week when the group met at the home of Mrs. Lloyd Ross with Mrs. Carl Johnson and Mrs. Flo Rennie acting as co-hostesses. Mrs. Homer Wallace was appointed chairman of a nominating committee to select a candidate for the office.
Plans were made to hold a party for their children on June 27. This will be a noon-time affair picnic and will be held at the home of Mrs. Critchfield, 123 South Ohio street.
Following the business session members were shown a motion picture film from the Orange County Tuberculosis association dealing with tuberculosis and rheumatic fever its symptoms and Florence Newkirk Presents Students In Piano Recital
A delightful piano recital was enjoyed by a large audience of parents and friends Tuesday evening when Mrs. Florence Newkirk presented 33 students at the Anaheim Ebell clubhouse.
The stage was decorated with potted palms while a beautiful floral arrangement of pastel gladioli was placed on the platform.
Wilma Fledderman and Frances Plow of Anaheim and Jean Starck buck of Fullerton served as ushers.
Miss Lois Smith, talented ballet let dancer, who has recently returned from a tour of eastern cities, demonstrated her ability at the piano by playing "First Arabesque" by Debussy, while Glenn Greder delighted the audience with his talented playing.

Brace Newkirk Students Recital
A bright piano recital was by a large audience of and friends Tuesday evening. Mrs. Florence Newsent 33 students at the Ebell clubhouse.
Stage was decorated with palms while a beautiful arrangement of pastel gladdened on the platform. Fledderman and Frances Anaheim and Jean Star-Fullerton served as ushers.
Hamilton-Flynn Rites Solemnized At St. Boniface
Immediate members of the family and close friends witnessed the marriage of Miss Ann Hamilton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Hamilton of 229 North Resh street and William P. Flynn, USNR, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert P. Flynn of Whittier on May 23 when a 10 o'clock double ring ceremony was held at St. Boniface Catholic church. Rev. James F. Gallagher read the service before an altar banked with white floral arrangements.
Given in marriage by her father the bride was lovely in a white satin gown fashioned with a lace yoke, fitted bodice and long sleeves. The full skirt, ending in a long train, was inset with lace while her finger-tip veil was designed with a coronet cap. She carried a white orchid that rested on a white leather prayer book.
Maid of honor was her sister, Miss Lucille Hamilton who wore a formal blue gown and carried a corsage of gardenias. White net and dainty blossoms rested in her hair.
Best man was Sgt. Carl Moen
Broadway PTA Officers Installed, At Last Session
Meeting for the first time this year newly elected officers of the Broadway P. T. A were installed Wednesday afternoon of last week at the school with Mrs. Leo Frus acting as installing officer.
The impressive services employed a service badge theme and Mrs. Emil Ulbricht was seated for the second time as president. Others installed were Mrs. Clarence Granere, vice president; Miss Margaret Simpson, secretary; Mrs. Blanche Daniels, treasurer; Miss Gertrude Anderson, parliamentarian and Mrs. Herbert Bass, auditor.
Mrs. Friis was then presented with a lovely gift as a token of appreciation for her part in the ceremony.
Miss Adah Louise Wilcox, head of the girl's physical education department for the elementary schools, was guest speaker and chose as her topic, "Life in Fremont Junior High School." She pointed out that students have to make a great adjustment when they enter junior high school because of their difference in sizes and ages and because they have different teachers for each subject.
Fifth grade students under the direction of Mrs. Dorothy Link, presented two skits entitled, "Our Mothers" and "How Others See Us." Several songs were then sung by the entire group and they were led by Miss Anderson. Glen Waltman, student, played an accordion solo as did Mrs. Link.
During the brief business meet-To Have Supper Party on June 4
Northern Pan-Hellenic association members will meet on Monday evening, June 4 for an door barbecue supper at the home of the newly-elected presidents Mrs. Virginia Critchfield, South Ohio street. This meeting will take the place of the meeting time that is regularly scheduled for the second Monday in each month.
Following the supper memoir will devote the evening to completing plans for the annual scholarship bridge benefit program that will be held in Fullerton June 22. As this will be one of the most important business sessions of the club year all members are urged to attend.
Committees for the party will be announced by Ruth Marie Cohen of La Habra who has named general chairman.
B. and P. W. Club to Witness Court Session June 27
Members of Business and Professional Women's club will enjoy an unusual opportunity on June 27 when they will witness a special court session in super court at Santa Ana. Plans for the event were disclosed Wednesday evening of last week where members met at the home of Hazel Nelms on West Broadway Mrs. Eva Boyd, president, predeed.

Following the ceremony a reception was held at the home of the bride's aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Burdick of North Olive street. Guests were greeted by the parents of the bride and bridegroom. Mrs. Hamilton wore a navy blue dress with chartreuse accessories and an orchid corsage. Mrs. Flynn is a WAC stationed at a Pasadena hospital.
The bridal table was centered with white flowers and tapers while two aunts of the bride. Mrs. Burdick and Mrs. G. Bonk-rud of Gardena presided at the coffee urn and punch bowl. Miss Rose Miranda took charge of the bride's guest book.
The beautifully decorated three tiered wedding cake was cut by the bride and the first piece was shared with her husband.
Following a brief honeymoon in a mountain resort the bridal couple will return to Anaheim after which Mrs. Flynn will accompany her husband to Norfolk, Virginia, where he is stationed. He reports for duty on June 3.
The bride is a graduate of Anaheim Union High school and Fullerton Junior college. She has been employed at the Southern California Telephone company. The bridegroom graduated from St. Catherine's Military school and Fullerton Junior college after which he entered the service.

Members of the Anaheim Police department, their wives and guests, enjoyed a picnic and evening's entertainment at the city park Monday night.
D. O. Wilkirson was chef for the occasion and was ably assisted by Thomas Taylor, Ralph Decker and Ivan Wood.
During the "feed" and for the remainder of the evening music they enter junior high school because of their difference in sizes and ages and because they have different teachers for each subject.

Russell Ward
Installed as DeMolay Head
Russell Ward was installed councilor of the Templar chapter of the DeMolay along with his corps of elected and appointive officers on Monday evening when impressive ceremonies were held in the Masonic Temple.
Officiating team was Gregg Watson, Santa Ana, installing officer; George Ehrle of Anaheim; Eugene Frisbie of Santa Ana; Jerry Franks of Anaheim and Glenn Greder of Anaheim.
Special guests for the evening were Lucie Siems, worthy matron of the Buena Park O.E.S.; Myreta Organ; worthy matron of the Anaheim O.E.S. and Courtney Chandler, district supervisor of DeMolay as well as members of the advisory council for Templar chapter.
A brief memorial period of silence was observed in honor of recent active members who have given their lives in the service of their country. Glenn Greder was organist for the ritualistic ceremony of the installation.
The evening was concluded with a social hour in the dining room. Mrs. W. R. Ward and Mrs. Don Frankes were hostess chairmen.

At Wedding Chapel
A recent marriage of interest was solemnized at Capilla de San Antonio when Miss Dorothy Darden of Anaheim, daughter of Mrs. Nora Darden of Fresno, became the bride of Irvin Spires, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Spires of 621 South Dickel street. Rev. Gerald Bash read the service.
Sister of the bride, Norma Darden, was maid of honor and Lloyd Spires, brother of the bridegroom acted as best man. Ushers were Mr. Spires and Lewis Darden, brother of the bride.
The bride is a graduate of the Anaheim Union High school and has been employed here. The bridegroom has been given a medical discharge from the services and is employed in Santa Ana.

Orange Hostess
The Nutwood club of Anaheim was entertained last week by Mrs. Frank E. Bell of South Tustin street, Orange at a noon luncheon in her home. Roses and other spring blossoms decorated the table. The afternoon hours were spent informally.
Covers were laid for the Mesdames Dyra Dwy, Otto Eickholt, Walter Walton, C. C. Vogel, Frank Hildebrand, O. L. Cramer, R. R. Schwartzbach, Edward Stoffel, E. R. Schuringa, Jake Schuringa, Richard Regan and H.E.Gust.

W. H. Johnston. A short, routine business meeting followed after which members adjourned to attend the funeral of one of their former members, Mrs. Sarah West.
