Year-Old Anaheim Woman Does Amount of Red Cross Work For the nation it's the pretentious women with living hearts and a love of humanity who have American Red Cross googles all these long war. Their only reward is the knowledge within them they have brought com- known thousands. Ana-cores of just such womens who sew and knit the night for the Red Cross represents the needs men and boys out yonder at home. With a woman is Mrs. Ben Lensing of 125 West Street. She isn't young means for she lacks only weeks of being 75 years old, but her eyes gleam with laughter, her smile is gay and her heart is young. She isn't very big; her hair is silvery white and her left hand is badly crippled as the result of a serious automobile accident some 15 years ago. All through the years her unspoken slogan has been "If there's a will there's a way" and she has proved it to herself many times over. Since last November she has made for the Red Cross 94 pairs of pajamas, seven bed jackets and twelve hospital bedside bags! Rather apologetically she says, "I used to make four pairs of pajamas a week, but now I can only seem to make three pair. I don't make the button holes though because of this" and she held out her badly crippled hand. It isn't as if her Red Cross work was her only activity either. Two afternoon's each week she quilts for the Altar Society of St. Boniface Catholic church and every morning at 7 o'clock she attends mass which necessitates walking numerous blocks each way. Then there is her seven-room house that she keeps up as well as a large garden that requires many hours of spading, pruning and watering. She even mows her own grass. She likes fun, too, and twice each month meets with a group of seven close friends for a game of 500. Her day begins shortly after 6 o'clock in the morning. Following church and breakfast she works in her garden and house and then sits down at her electric sewing machine and starts her Red Cross work. Once each week she takes her finished garments to the headquarters and picks up a fresh supply of material. "I'm from Missouri" is a literal bly and at noon-time on the same day will appear before the Navy wanis club. All arrangements for the group appearance have been made by the Anaheim Elks club and when they are here they will be furnished board and lodging by lodge. War veterans to be present include: John Leo Farris, most machinist's mate first class, who has participated in four major invasions. He wears Navy's Silver Star medal for action in the Salerno engagement and he won his Purple Heart medal in Sicily. Ray Duffee, phantastic mate second class, honors the Navy Cross, a special British award and the Presidential U.Citation for service with the Second marines. Two former professional farnymen now wearing Uncle Sam navy blue will add to the entertainment. They are Larry King, seaman first class, and Anaheim Resident Hear Talk By Prominent Chinese A number of Anaheim and range county residents enjoyed unusual opportunity Wednesday evening of last week of hear an address by T. They are Ralph Oldfield, USA; Don Polhemus, USN and Roger Annis, USMC. The name of the church's 118 members in the armed forces, including four women, will be read and families and friends of these men and women will be honored guests. Seats will be reserved for them in the center section of the sanctuary until 10:45 a.m. and military personnel present for the service will be given special recognition. The pastor, Rev. S. F. George, will give the sermon, "The Church and Its Service Members." CHRISTIAN SCIENCE "Bless the Lord, O my soul, O Lord my God, thou art very great; thou art clothed with honour and majesty," sings the Psalmist in the Golden Text of the Sunday Lesson-Sermon on "Soul and Body" in all branches of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston. A Scriptural citation from John's Gospel relates that when Jesus had cleansed the temple, the Jews came to him, saying, "What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things? Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days? Nineteen different nationalities worshipped in the church and two Japanese Christians were admitted to membership while he was there. Koo said, "If we are to make a success of our international peace organization we have to have within us this Christian spirit of mutual respect so that we can work together." The success of the conference depends on how far the 70 individual nations are willing to give themselves to this world life. In a homely illustration he likened the conference to an omelette made of 70 eggs. The omelette will be delicious, he said, if the eggs are seasoned and stirred together, but if one of the eggs would decline to lose his identity the result would be 70 separate eggs and no omelette. If an egg would say we'll give just a little but don't crack us open too far then the resulting omelette would be a measely one and not much good.
