MRS. EVA BOYD INSTALLED PRESIDENT OF B. & P. W. CLUB AT CEREMONY APRIL 26
Mrs. Eva Boyd was installed president of the Business and Professional Women's club last Thursday evening by the state president, Dorothy Decker of Santa Ana, who also handed cleverly worded "degrees" to each of the other incoming officers, including Grace Towne, vice president; Alice Betzold, recording secretary; Laura Payne, corresponding secretary and Mae Boeckman, treasurer.
The dinner meeting was held at the Elks clubhouse and the long tables were colorful with vivid flower arrangements of tulips and stocks while carnation corsages were found at the places of both the new and old officers. The state president was honored with a pink rosebud corsage.
Miss Beulah Hineman, retiring president, presented the gavel and president's pin to Mrs. Boyd while she in turn was given the past president's pin by Alice Williamson. Retiring officers were presented with "certificates of completion" by the installing officer.
Preceding the dinner Ethel Coffman, director-at-large for the southern district, read the collect after which Mrs. Boyd led the members in the allegiance pledge and the national anthem. Miss Edith Brown, soprano, sang a group of popular songs accompanied at the piano by Miss Josephine LaRue.
Dorothy Decker and the county president, Ina Garritt of Fullerton, briefly summed up some of the activities accomplished last year by the International Federation and by the state organizer.
Popular Bride To-Be Honored At Recent Shower
Sometime this month Miss Jessie Thatcher of 924 North Olive street, will become the bride of Ensign William Coldren who is awaiting leave from his station at Corpus Christi, Texas. The popular bride-to-be has been honored at a number of recent parties and one of the loveliest of the affairs was that given recently by Mrs. Elsie Fraher, Mrs. Blanche McLaughlin and Miss Shirley Tozer at the home of Mrs. Edith Stevens on Palm street.
Guests gathered in rooms that were attractively decorated with many bouquets of spring flowers and spent the early evening hours in conversation and in writing out their favorite recipes for the honoree. Later in the evening the bride-elect was invited to open the many lovely gifts that will grace her new home. Among the most treasured of the gifts was the little antique relish dish that she received from Mrs. Alfred Jesperson of Fullerton.
The evening was concluded with the serving of dainty refreshments.
ANNUAL MEETING
The annual business meeting and election of officers for the coming year will be held Monday evening at the White Temple Methodist church and will be preceded by a 6:30 o'clock covered dish supper. Reports will be heard from the various departments. Dr. Alfred J. Hughes, district superintendent of the San Diego area, will preside.
Gust-Long Rites Solemnized With Lovely Ceremony
In the presence of 100 relatives and close friends, Miss Violet Gust and E. Richard Long, RM2c, plighted their troth last Friday evening at the Capilla de San Antonia in a ceremony that was marked with beautiful simplicity. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Gust of Nutwood avenue and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Long. Rev. A. L. Horn, pastor of the Salem Evangelical church, read the service.
Given in marriage by her father the bride was attractively gowned in white satin and net and a finger tip veil that was fashioned with a coronet of seed pearls. Her bridal bouquet was sweet peas and maiden hair fern and was centered with an orchid tied with white streamers.
Her sister, Miss Jeanne Gust, attended as maid of honor and wore a formal blue taffeta and net gown and carried a bouquet o..

Dorothy Decker and the county president, Ina Garritt of Fullerton, briefly summed up some of the activities accomplished last year by the International Federation and by the state organization. There are now 10,000 members in the state and in the Sixth War Loan drive the quota was 3 million dollars but members far over subscribed it by selling 7 million dollars worth of bonds. In the southern district 193 members were taken in during the year and of these 91 were from Orange county. The main project of the year was raising money to train Chinese nurses and the Anaheim club trained eight Chinese nurses out of the total or sixteen who were trained.
The state president told of the prominent part members of the organization are taking at the San Francisco conference and said that among representatives of the Business and Professional Women's groups are Margaret Hickey, national president; Josephine Sheen, field representative and Dean Gildersleeve.
Among the special guests present were members and officers of the Santa Ana, Fullerton and Orange clubs.
Mrs. Boyd announced that the next meeting of the group will be held at the Parker House on May 9 and will be a Mother's Day program. Each member is asked to bring a Mother's Day tribute.
