JUNIOR EBELL GIVES $200 TO RED CROSS DRIVE FOLLOWING SUCCESSFUL BENEFIT
Hard work, ingenuity and a worthy cause made the Junior Ebell Red Cross benefit bridge fashion show last Saturday afternoon an outstanding success and as a result a check for $200 is being turned over to the Anaheim chapter of the Red Cross War Fund drive.
Smartly garbed in the latest springtime fashions more than 200 guests attended the smart affair that was held at the Ebell clubhouse. Guests were greeted in the lounge that was gayly decorated with spring flowers and were able to view there the many and varied prizes that were awarded later in the afternoon at the conclusion of the card play.
Crepe formal that was designed with a flattering drape and a bare midriff. Another model that she wore to advantage was a black sheer wool skirt and a winter white grosgrain jacket that was sequin-trimmed. With it she carried a black, beaded bag and a perky, pinkish lavender hat.
Mrs. Carrie Lou Sutherland appeared in a smart black and white checked suit over which she wore a fuchsia coat and a white straw hat.
Newest in smartly fashioned sailor hats is the "sissy sailor" that was worn becoming by Miss Nancy Ganahl. The bright red hat added a pleasing and colorful note.
O. H. Renner and August Schmacher are this week celebrating their 38th anniversary as owners of the S.Q.R. store, Anaheim oldest general merchandise clothing store since F. A. Yu bluth sold out his clothing store last summer, and second-oldest store of its kind in the county.
It was coincidence that broung Renner and his family and Schmacher and his family to Anaheim back in 1887 and at the time he men were mere lads who had completed their schooling. Schmacher started working in a gery store and young Renner went to work for S. S. Federman while merchandising store was located in the northeast corner of Los Angeles and Center streets.

Guests were greeted in the lounge that was gayly decorated with spring flowers and were able to view there the many and varied prizes that were awarded later in the afternoon at the conclusion of the card play.
Conducted by smiling usherette members to the individual tables that were set up in the larger room the guests were seated at tables that were centered with small pots of ivy in pastel shades and that later were used as individual table prizes. Talley cards cleverly depicted the Easter theme of the small animal kingdom including bunnies with real cotton tails, wooly lambs, ducks and little deer. Life size placards in the same motif hung from the walls while on the stage two huge cotton Easter bunnies with pink ears and blue and pink ribbon bows caught and held the attention of the guests as well as the little folks who later modeled in the fashion show.
Guests were welcomed by the Junior Ebell president, Mrs. Richard Clark who also introduced Mrs. Ray Ringwald, (Kathryn McCullah) as the commentator for the fashion show.
Latest fashions in what Anaheim’s “small fry” will be wearing this spring were shown and the young models included Ronnie Keith, Judy Roquet, Terry Martin and his brother, Randy, Judy Doyle, Chris Conway, Joanna Cook, Karen Andrews, Stephanie Windsor, Brian Windsor, Gary Reinert, Marilyn Cordill, Gretchen Schneider, Tommy and Pamela Leo, Barbara Godbehere, Darlene Morris, David and Jimmy Kersten, Marian Carcausa, Jeannine Pannier, Marlene Fox, Shirley Pannier, Verletta Weber, Barbara Jungkelt and Mable Beddall.
Highlight of the adult fashions was the sweetly young and fetching black and white checked taffeta formal that was modelled by Mrs. Earl Bushard. A 1945 version of Grandmamma’s day the dress was fashioned with a perky bustle and worn with lime green velvet gloves and chapeau.
The dark, Hawaiian beauty of Mrs. James Ramage, wife of a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy, further set off the slim beauty of a Hattie Carnegie blue white grosgrain jacket that was sequin-trimmed. With it she carried a black, beaded bag and a perky, pinkish lavender hat.

Newest in smartly fashioned sailor hats is the “sissy sailor” that was worn becomingly by Miss Nancy Ganahl. The bright red hat added a pleasing and colorful note to the casual gray suit that she wore with it. The suit was fashioned with a short, newly styled cape and with the white chiffon custom made blouse she wore at Hattie Carnegie pin.
Another picturesque model was the old fashioned flowered cotton dotted swiss formal that was worn by Mrs. Charles Wesley Osborne. The dress was made with dropped shoulder line, a tightly fitted waist and a very full gathered skirt.
Mrs. James Reinert modelled a dinner gown fashioned with charteuse top that followed a brocaded jersey design and a full white net skirt. The basque waist was designed with three-quarter length sleeves.
Miss Lillian Knutzen’s auburn beauty was enhanced by the simply tailored spring blue twill suit that she wore. With it was a skirt that displayed to advantage the new barrel idea and over this costume she wore a casual coat and turban of brighter color.
The dresses shown were from three local shops.
Following the fashion show guests enjoyed several hours of cards and the awarding of the many lovely door prizes.
Committees responsible for the success of the affair were headed by Mrs. Louise Dickenson, decorations; Mrs. Ray Ringwald, commentator; Mrs. William Cook, refreshments; Miss Lucille Bruneskie and Miss Betty Dammers, raffle; Miss Elizabeth Ann Carroll, card appointments; Mrs. George Tokar, serving and Mrs. S. L. Keith and Mrs. Paul Doyle, reservations.

Partnership of 38 Years Celebrated Here This Week
H. Renner and August Schuhr are this week celebrating 38th anniversary as owner of the S.Q.R. store, Anaheim's general merchandise and drug store since F. A. Yung-sold out his clothing store summer, and second oldest of its kind in the county. Was coincidence that brought him and his family and Schuhr and his family to Anaheim in 1887 and at the time both were mere lads who had just met their schooling. Schuhr started working in a grotore and young Renner went on work for S. S. Federman whose landing store was located at northeast corner of Los An- and Center streets. When caused other merchants to retire from the scene.
The history of the store really goes back to the early 1880's when S. S. Federman came to Anaheim from Pennsylvania and established it. As a young man Renner did some of the buying that included stock from the Brownstein-Lewis Wholesale house in Los Angeles that specialized in men's work clothing. Recently that business celebrated its 50th anniversary and Renner and Schumacher were invited to attend the birthday party. Until he started reminiscing with Henry Lewis, Renner had not realized that he had, in some capacity or other, been buying from the same business for 50 continuous years.
The S.Q.R. store, in its early days carried the same departments that are a part of the store nowadays with the exception of two. Some years ago cosmetics and millinery departments were added.
