EMINENT ITALIAN DIPLOMAT TO SPEAK BEFORE EBELL ON RISE & FALL OF FASCISM
"He put in his thumb and pulled out a plum" and the treat was very, very good. It is something like that that is in store for members of the Ebell club on Monday afternoon when they will foregather at the clubhouse to hear Dr. Franco Bruno-Averardi, internationalist and diplomat, discourse on "Italy of Yesterday and Today." Possessed of a charming personality as well as a profound knowledge of his subject Dr. Averardi will tell of the rise and fall of fascism and will relate his personal experiences in discussing the tragedy and resurrection of Italy.
His family connections are such that he has been permitted an inside knowledge of the political workings in Italy and has himself taken part on many previous important conferences. His father-in-law was Vittorio Emmanuele Orlando, Italian premier and one of the Big Four at the Versailles conference while his cousin, Marcello Saleri, minister of war just before the advent of fascism, was his cousin as well as friend.
Dr. Averardi was a member of the Italian delegation of the Disarmament conference in Washington, D.C., in 1921-22 and of the legal section and the disarmament section of the Secretariat of the League of Nations in Geneva from 1922-24. He received his doctorate of letters at the University of Turin, Italy, and later held a professorship in European civilization and comparative literature at the University of Florence.
It was upon the invitation of Dr. Nicholas Murray Butler that he came to the United States and conducted a series of lectures at Harvard, Yale, University of Southern California, University of California, and many other prominent universities. In 1934 he visited Germany, Egypt, Greece and Italy and lectured on American civilization and literature. In 1935 he founded the department of Italian Studies at Hofstra University.

For her bridal costume the bride chose a lovely afternoon dress of gold crepe with which she wore brown accessories and an orchid corsage.

Following the ceremony a reception was held in the private dining room at the Spanish Kitchen. Shortly afterwards Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert left for a two weeks' honeymoon in Palm Surprise Bridge Dinner Honors
