Remember, Southern Pacific's biggest job is still ahead handling the ever-increasing war load for the drive in the Pacific. Your work will be vital. Railroad pass privileges. Fine pension plan. Medical services. The kind of job you can be proud of. Look into this today. (Student Brakemen needed also. Really good wages after short training)
New Telephone Book Lists All Names In County Under One Alphabetical List
Bringing a combined alphabetical section, new telephone directories for Orange county are now being distributed, R. J. Rossberg, Southern California Telephone Company manager, states.
"With the introduction of the combined section, in which telephone subscribers for the entire county are listed alphabetically, instead of by exchanges," said Rossberg, "we believe that the directory will prove of greater service to our customers."
"With the aid of the combined section, persons consulting the directory will be able to find a listing quickly, without being at the trouble of consulting the various exchange lists, as in the past," he continued.
The manager reported that he had found that a number of subscribers formerly indexed the books in order that they might the more quickly refer to the lists of the various exchanges. This practice will no longer be necessary, he said.
Persons who have established themselves in the county recently and who may be unfamiliar with the various exchanges will find the new arrangement particularly handy, the manager said.
The new book comes with a gray cover. It is hoped to complete distribution of the volume within a few days.
The manager asked subscribers to turn in their old books to salvage paper drives. Returned books are converted into cartridge cases and used for other war purposes. He urged subscribers to remove all valuables and keepsakes from their old directories.

If You Want a Here it
THERE's still a long, hard fight ahead of us to beat the Japs. It will take production on the home front as well as fighting on the war fronts. Our military leaders know it and they've planned their strategy accordingly.
It's no military secret now: we're moving into full production on a new giant super-bomber ideally equipped to carry the war to Japan—the B-32, the Liberator's big brother called the Dominator.
This is the biggest job Consolidated Vultee has ever undertaken, a long-range job pointing toward final victory over the Japs.

MEXICAN NATIONALS URGED TO CASH CHECKS ON RECEIPT
California employers of Mexican nationals throughout the state are urged to have their workers cash their pay checks before leaving the communities in which are drawn, according to an announcement today by the California Bankers Association.
The suggestion, paralleling a similar request by the Mexican government to its nationals in California, is made to help workers obtain their money upon presentation of their pay checks without delay.
The recommendation was made because of the practice of some Mexican nationals in holding their paychecks for several weeks, eventually cashing them in communities other than those in which they were issued, thus resulting in delays in payment pending identification.
