Einar Holboell, a man who loved children, originated the idea of Christmas Seals to fight tuberculosis. In America, Christmas Seal money has been used since 1907 to finance the campaign to prevent and control the disease.

Jeanette Walker And R. L. Cookus Married Thursday
Mr. and Mrs. J. Ross Walker announce the marriage of their daughter, Jeanette to Roderick Lee Cookus, PhM 1/c, USN, the wedding rites being performed at Capilla de San Antonio Thursday evening of last week by the Rev. Stanley Frederick George, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, before immediate members of the bride's family. The rites were read at 6:30 p.m.
The bride wore a street length dress with brown accessories. A single orchid was pinned to the shoulder of her frock.
Miss Charlene Walker, her sister, was the bride's only attendant. She was dressed in a blue dress with which she wore black accessories and a corsage of pink gladiolus.
The young couple left for a short honeymoon trip immediately after the ceremony. Upon their return they will establish a temporary home near the Naval Ordnance Test station at Inyokern, Calif.
The new Mrs. Cookus is a graduate of the Fullerton Junior college and was a senior at UCLA.
The bridegroom is a former student at Arizona State Teacher's college at Tempe, Ariz., where his home was until he enlisted in the service in the Navy three and a half years ago.
Engagement Is Revealed At Family Dinner
The engagement and approaching marriage of Miss Charlotte Ellen Baumbach to George F. Prole was revealed last weekend when a family dinner party was held at the bride-elect's home, 318 North Pine street. Her parents are Mr. and Mrs. B. E. Baumbach.
Present plans are that the nuptials will take place at the Grace Lutheran church on December 24.
James M. Henry Passes Away Sun.
James Matthew Henry passed away at the home of his son, J. P. Henry, Desert View Springs, Lucerne Valley, Calif., last Sunday after apparently suffering a second paralytic stroke.
He was 92 years old, born in Georgia and had formerly lived in and near Anaheim, going to live with his son about four years ago. He has a host of friends who mourn his passing. Although he was nearing the century mark, Mr. Henry was active for a man of his years and had a surprisingly small amount of grey hair for a man of his age.
Left as survivors are two sons, Joseph P. Henry of Desert View Springs, Lucerne Valley, and Albert Henry of Georgia; two daughters, Mrs. Mattie Pierce of Georgia and Mrs. Sally J. Standridge of Anaheim, and one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Yarborough.
Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday at 2 o'clock from the Backs, Campbell and Kaulbars chapel with the Rev. Stanley Frederick George, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, officiating and burial was in Loma Vista cemetery.

A bargain hunter's reasons for buying War Bonds
to help him now
to help us later
I think Bob's the bravest man in the world.
But I know that he, and the millions like him, can't win this war without money. My money—War Bond money. When I buy Bonds, I feel I'm helping to bring him back sooner.

I think Bob's the bravest man in the world.
But I know that he, and the millions like him, can't win this war without money. My money—War Bond money. When I buy Bonds, I feel I'm helping to bring him back sooner.
But there's another reason.
When Bob comes back, we'll need money too, a lot of it. Money to tide us over till Bob gets back into the swing of being a civilian. Money to build that house we both dream about. And money to raise a family to fill it.
So every bond I buy will give me double value. It will do two jobs—one now and one later. And as an old bargain hunter, I just can't resist a deal like that!
War Bonds – to have and to hold!
HILGENFELD MORTUARY
120 East Broadway, Anaheim
Last week I nearly went A.W.O.L.
LAST PAYDAY I planned to be Absent Without Official Leave—from the place where I usually buy my War Bonds. I was going to blow myself to some swell new clothes.
While I was checking to see if my nose was shiny, my mirror barked at me like a top sergeant. "Hey you! Don't you know a soldier, can be shot for going A.W.O.L.?"
"Now look," I said to me, "I'm not a soldier, and besides, a gal can't go around naked, can she? Anyway, I'm entitled to some fun, war or no war."
My mirror came right back at me. "You know darn well," it said, "that we're all soldiers—and till the fighting stops, and men are no longer getting killed, don't you stop buying War Bonds! As for fun, sure you're entitled to some—if you earn it.
"That means extra sacrifices—going without things, and I don't mean War Bonds!"
"OK, Sarge," I said, "you win. I can just make it to that War Bond place. I'll get those clothes later."
The way my mirror made me look, you'd think I was wearing a mink coat!
