Thursday, October 19, 1944 SOCIETY WOMEN'S ACQUISITION By NORMA N. LOCAL B. AND P.W. OBSERVE NATIONAL BUSINESS WEEK; MEETING HELD THURS. A brief resume of National Business Week program was outlined at the regular meeting of the local Business and Professional Women's club when they held a dinner meeting at the Parker House Cafe on Thursday evening of last week. In 1928 National Business Week was inaugurated for the prime purpose of acquainting the public with the problems of business. Miss Beulah Hineman, president of the club, reported that at the present time there are 80,000 members in the B.-P.W. clubs over the nation. Dr. Frank Warren of Beverly Hills, speaker of the evening, was introduced by Dr. Hazel Nelms, program chairman. He chose for his discourse, "The Golden Rule and the Declaration of Independence," in which he stressed the three principal objectives of our lives today, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, and the all important part of the Golden Rule plays in the application of each. The importance of voting in the coming election and the duty as a citizen of America was stressed during the meeting, calling to the attention of the club members, the importance at this time particularly, of exercising their rights in voting for the candidates for public offices. The theme of the club this year is "Are We Part Time Citizens?" New members welcomed into the club were Laura Payne, Maude Ford and Dorothy Beckler. Guests included Betty DeYoung, Esther Lauschner and Dorothy Baker. The theme of Columbus Day was carried out in the table decorations when a large centerpiece was in the form of a ship made from flowers with smaller flower ships completing the decoration. The regular meeting night has been changed from Thursday evening to Wednesday evening and the next meeting will be held on October 25. MARRIAGE LICENSE ISSUED William A. McClelland of Anaheim and Rosemary Numer of Kansas City, Mo., obtained a marriage license at the county courthouse in Santa Ana last weekend. Year of Work For Broadway P.-T.A. Begun at Meeting The 1944-45 year of work for the Broadway P.-T.A. association was begun when they held their first meeting this past week. Mrs. Ulbricht, president of the organization, presided. Mrs. Guy Daniels, principally the school, introduced and welcomed the new teachers who Miss Margaret Simpson, faculty member and hospitality chairman, of the organization, introduced members. Four hundred eighty-two pounds of rags was turned in during a past week for the rag drive that has been conducted by the school. The paper drive started on Monday day, October 16. During the program of the afternoon songs by the third grade were presented with drum solemn by Donnie Dawson, a pupil of the grade. The fifth grade was the winner of the trophy for having the most mothers present for this meeting. Mrs. Dorothy Link is the teacher of this class. An award of a star to the room having the most mothers present was arranged this and will be purchased from the P.-T.A. treasury.
