This question will be the subject of the Lesson-Sermon in all branches of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston. The Golden Text from the Psalms reads: "O Lord my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me. O Lord, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave; thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit." F.B.I. Agent Tells Lions of Japanese Espionage Work Members of the Lions club enjoyed an unusual program at their Friday noon luncheon at the Elks clubhouse when F. Alare Dorwart, assistant special agent from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, San Diego, presented the program. His appearance here was arranged by Sheriff Jesse Elliott, member of the Santa Ana Lions club. In his remarks preceding the showing of a film he explained the Japanese system of espionage and sabotage in this country, which was to hire their spies and agents, rather than allow the Japanese themselves to do the fifth column work. This explains and gives the answer to the pro-Japanese element who have claimed that no instance of sabotage has been charged to a Japanese. Mr. Dorwart told the story of Velvelee Dickinson, a white woman and a native of Sacramento, who became an espionage agent for the Japs, and who was sentenced in August of this year to ten years in prison and fined $10,-000. The information obtained from her activities as an agent for Japan was of such a secret nature that it could not be used at her trial, so she was tried on a charge of violating the censorship law and given the maximum sentence for this offense. Had she actually been tried and convicted of being a spy for Japan against her own country, the penalty might have been death. The film shown was a vivid portrayal of the training and work of the FBI of which J. Edgar Hoover is the director. Recruited and introduced Sheriff Elliott in turn introduced the specimen President Thayer Chapman sided at the meeting and sented Lion Cliff Lamb with 20-year service pin. Lion A. P. M. Brown, and Brown who was not present congratulated on their silver niversary which they celebrated during the past week. Lion Al Riutcel reported on work done by several members of the club and their wives who unteered to assist the rationing in renewing and mailing "An online cards." President Chapman stated that more extra help needed by the OPA board andquested those who could to a few hours of their time to service. The Golden Text from the Psalms reads: “O Lord my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me. O Lord, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.” A Bible passage from II Kings relates that a little captive maid from Isreal said to her mistress, the wife of Naaman, the leper, “Would God my lord were with the prophet that is in Samaria! for he would recover him of his leprosy. . . So Naaman came . . . and stood at the door of Elisha. And Elisha sent a messenger unto him, saying, Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be clean. But Naaman was wroth. . . And his servants . . . said, My father, if the prophet had bid thee do so some great thing, wouldst thou not have done it? how much rather, then, when he saith to thee, Wash, and be clean?” Naaman then obeyed Elisha “and his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.” In “Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures’ Mary Baker Eddy says, “Truth handles the most malignant contagion with perfect assurance.” FREE METHODIST Bible school at 9:45 a.m. Nathan Lehman, superintendent.
