AN EASY WAY TO OPEN OYSTERS
Do you wear scars from skirmishes with stubborn oyster shells? (She sells sea shells, etc.) Then you'll welcome news that the fish and wildlife service has been conducting experiments in oyster-opening. They believe it is possible that the family oyster opener may soon be able to drop a tablet in water that covers the oysters and in five minutes find them open. This method calls for getting the bivalves “drunk” on carbonated water so that their muscles relax and the shells open readily.

CHRISTIAN SCIENCE
This quotation from Proverbs will be the Golden Text in the Sunday Lesson-Sermon on "Matter" in all branches of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston: "Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven."
Matthew relates that after Jesus had fed the multitude in the desert place, he "constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, . . . And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.
A citation from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, reads: "God never ordained a material law to annul the spiritual law. . . . Jesus walked on the waves, fed the multitude, healed the sick, and raised the dead in direct opposition to material laws. His acts were the demonstration of Science, overcoming the false claims of material sense or law."

Christian Teaching Stressed During Religious Week
CHICAGO. — Evidence of the growing influence of Christian teaching for children in towns and county rural areas, through week-day religious education classes and other programs, will be marshalled before the nation during the 14th observance of Religious Education Week, September 24 to October 1, according to Dr. Erwin L. Shaver of the International Council of Religious Education, sponsor of the event.
Released time classes in religious education, sponsored by local committees, open this month in more than 1,000 communities of 44 states a recent survey indicates, Dr. Shaver said. More than a million grade and high school pupils will be enrolled in these classes, many of them receiving the only regular spiritual teaching they will have during the year.
Not only are enrollment and the number of classes increasing in the week-day religious education program, but Dr. Shaver also reports new cooperative interest among groups of all faiths in hundreds of communities. There is also an upswing in the securing of professionally trained teachers for the classes, and community-wide planning is going into the programs.
Following a summer program of spiritual training in vacation Bible schools and summer camps with their enrollment of nearly 4,000,-000 children and young people, the school-year religious education classes combine with the vacation month programs to present

rabbits in this hat!
SORRYthere are no more rabbits in this hat!
Normally, we have reserve facilities in our hat. But since National Defense got under way in 1940, the Army, Navy and public have been supplied with these reserves—including a net increase of more than 4½ million Bell System telephones.
The hat’s about empty now. No magic wand—only final victory—can bring back the materials we need to give service to every one who wants it. That’s why there may be a delay in moving service and there probably will be a delay in establishing new service.
In the meantime, we’re doing everything we can to s-t-r-e-t-c-h our facilities so they’ll serve as many people as possible.
We’re loading switchboards to the limit. Repairing and putting to work every telephone facility we can lay our hands on. Using whatever we have where it will do the most good.
Ingenuity on our part and co-operation on your part will help to take care of the telephone waiting list sooner.
If you are one of those who are waiting, we’d like you to know we will take care of your needs at the earliest possible moment.
