CHRISTIAN SCIENCE
The Golden Text of the Sunday Lesson-Sermon on "Man" in all branches of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, is from Psalms, and reads: "Praise waiteth for thee, O God, in Sion: . . . Blessed is the man whom thou choosest, and causest to approach unto thee, that he may dwell in thy courts."
"Rise, take up they bed, and walk," commanded Jesus of the impotent man at the pool of Bethesda. "And," according to John's Gospel, "immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: . . . And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, . . . because he had done these things on the sabbath day. But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work. . . The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: . . . For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth."
"God will heal the sick through man, whenever man is governed by God," writes Mary Baker Eddy in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." And she adds, "Truth casts out error now as surely is it did nineteen centuries ago."

Rotary District
Governor Special
Guest At Meeting
Special guest and speaker at
the Rotary meeting held last Monday at the Mks Club house, was
district governor John P. Davis
of Long Beach. His chosen subject was "Objectives of Rotary"
during which discourse he gave
some very poignant pointers on
some of the things a good Rottarian should do. The first of these
and one of the most important
was that each member attend the
meetings regularly. Also each
member should aid the fellowship
of Rotary and understand its objecives.
Every effort should be made to
increase the membership, stressed
the governor. Each member should
do his utmost to aid in the active
service for the good of the club
and the civic work of their city
as well as take an active part in
the enactment of good government. As is the privilege of every American citizen, each member should vote regularly, help in the war effort and above all, be thinking of the post war problems today.
President George Hedstrom presided over the meeting and introduced Miss Katherine McCullah,
who presented a special musical program.
The announcement was made that no meeting will be held next week since this date will fall on Labor Day.
Clothing For Russian War Relief Badly Needed As Winter Season Approaches
Camp Welfare Committees report, made at the Christian Science Directors Meeting in Boston recently, showed that 2,000 War Relief Committees in Christian Science branch churches and some cities in the United States and Canada, are sending clothing in considerable quantities to our Allies. These committees have been making constant contributions of used and new clothing as well as shoes to Russian War Relief.
Mrs. F. Earl Long, in charge
of the Shipping Depot at 8407 Santa Monica Boulevard, keeps a large volunteer staff active in packing and sorting material received from all their churches in the southwest United States, as for east as Denver and as far south as Texas.
Used clothing is brought to the churches where new garments are made and old opes gone over in their church workrooms. Each church provides the funds with which it works, with standards set forth by Boston; and the Christian Science Board inspects the goods before sending them out. Every garment bears a label and then on arrival at the Shipping Depot they are again inspected. If found unsatisfactory here the Christian Science label is torn out and the clothes sent to the Salvation Army.
In a report made public by Russian War Relief of Southern California it was disclosed today that from March 5, 1943 to July 20, 1944:
1249 cases used clothing valued at $154,716.
246 cases new clothing valued at $22,741. These figures total in valuation $177,457 for the 16 months activity for Russian War Relief. This clothing is of such high quality, so well prepared that neither cleaning nor mending is necessary.

FORMS FOR RENEWAL OF "A" GAS BOOKS READY
Application forms for renewal of basic "A" gasoline rations will be distributed to all local OPA Boards by Monday of this week, it was announced by Carl A. Stuewe, assistant chief of board operations. Proprietors of service stations and garages who wish to make the application forms available to their customers may call at their local board. Many of these establishments have expressed the desire to perform this service for their customers.
OPA also warns all motorists in applying for a renewal of rats to make certain that: 1. The current address of the applicant appears on the back of the old "A" book, which must accompany the application for a renewal, and 2. the old tire inspection record must also accompany the request for renewal rats.
The renewal period places a greatly increased work load on all local boards. Anyone who is able to devote any time as a volunteer board worker is urged by Stuewe to report to his or her own Board and offer to help with the task of renewing the "A" books.
