MR. AND MRS. SAM HILGENFELD RECEIVE HOST OF GUESTS FOR FORTIETH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY The lovely home of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Hilgenfeld of 120 East Broadway, was filled with a gay throng of friends and relatives last Sunday when Mr. and Mrs. Hilgenfeld held open house in celebration of their "ruby" wedding anniversary, the fortieth. To make the occasion perfect for the honorees, their children and their grandchildren were present. The rooms of the home were beautiful with many, many bouquets of ruby red gladioli and roses, gifts of their friends. Other decorations throughout the home and in the refreshment course were carried out in the ruby and white color scheme. The tea table and buffet were lovely with huge bouquets of red roses in ruby bowls. The tea table was lovely with a lace cloth and centered with a bouquet of forty red roses in a ruby bowl and flanked on each end with lighted candles. Presiding at the tea table for the first two hours were Mrs. Esther Twinem and Mrs. Hulda Granere, with Mrs. H. G. Dymmel and Mrs. A. L. Horn presiding the balance of the afternoon. Assisting with the hostess duties were Miss Catherine Behrns, Miss Wilma Luering and Miss Ella Baker. Delightful refreshments of cake, punch, coffee and tea was served. Mrs. Hilgenfeld was beautifully dressed in a light blue crepe street dress with a shoulder corsage of red roses. Samuel F. Hilgenfeld and Lydia Apel were married at the farm business here and has been most active in the work of his church and in the youth work. Last Friday evening a family dinner was held at the home with all the children present to help celebrate the occasion, these being, with their families, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey C. Nunn, a daughter, and their son, Roger David of Los Angeles; Mr. and Mrs. Melvin D. Hilgenfeld, a son, and their daughter, Marjorie Ann, of Anaheim; Mr. and Mrs. Robert S. Farrar, a daughter, and their son, Stanley Frank, of Santa Ana, and T/Sgt. and Mrs. Wm. O. Rose, a daughter, and their son, Wm. Henry Rose of Sacramento. Many cards and telegrams expressing best wishes to Mr. and Mrs. Hilgenfeld on this anniversary were received by them and expressions from their hundreds of other friends go with them with the sincere wish that they may celebrate many more anniversaries. Beverly Akers, Graduate Nurse, Party Honoree A party honoring Miss Beverly Akers, a graduate nurse from the Orange County hospital, who held their commencement exercises at the Anaheim Ebell clubhouse early Thursday evening, was given at the home of Mrs. H. H. Hall of 733 North Clementine street, following the graduation rites. The home was beautifully decorated with spring flowers in the pastel Regular Meeting Of Women's Relief Corps Is Held The regular session of the A.P.U.Women's Relief Corps was held at the White Temple Bungo low on Tuesday, July 4, when the regular business of the group was transacted. The committee reported that twenty dollars had been expended in the cause of relief four dollars for child welfare twenty-three calls were made twenty-three bouquets and two sprays of flowers were given while the members accounted for five hundred miles of rides given to service men. Following a delightful afternoon, refreshments of cake and coffee was served to those present Mrs. Samantha Alsip and Mr. Bessie Fitzpatrick being the hostesses. Ten Graduates From Hospital Receive Diplomas Dr. H. A. Johnston of Anaheim who maintains a clinic at 111 North Claudina street, was the principal speaker last Thursday evening when ten members of the graduating class of the Orange County hospital received their diplomas and pins in a graduation service held at the Anaheim Ebel clubhouse. Dr. Harry Zazier, superintendent of the hospital, gave an interesting talk on the honor achievement and future of this noble profession, reiterating that many things these young ladies have learned in the several years Dymmel and Mrs. A. Hilgenfeld and Lydia Apel were married at the farm home of the bride about five miles northeast of Falls City, Nebr., on June 30, 1904 at 4 o'clock. The next six years they made their home in Napperville, Illinois, coming to Napa, California in June of 1910 and living there until 1913, then moving to Los Angeles. In 1914 they moved to San Francisco where they resided until 1917 moving to Oakland where they lived until 1920. Later they went back to Los Angeles and in 1921 they were residents of Buena Park where they made their home until 1925, going from there to Brea, living there for almost two years and coming to Anaheim in 1927. The honored guest wore the uniform of her profession accented with a white orchid corsage, the gift of her fiance, Quentin Barnes, who is a government aviation engineer stationed in Alaska. Mrs. Hall was dressed in a blue formal with a corsage of peach colored blossoms. Mrs. Hall and Miss Akers received more than one hundred guests. Presiding at the tea table was Miss Muriel Barnes and Mrs. Allan Hall of Fullerton with Mrs. Howard West assisting. GUESTS AT PARTY IN ORANGE HOME Mrs. Ralph Bradley, Mrs. William Hutton and Mrs. Glenn Miller, all of Anaheim, were guests in the home of Mrs. Roy Johnson of North Tustin Street, Orange where she entertained a number of friends at a layette shower in honor of Mrs. Forest Thomas of that city. WOMEN'S ACTIVITIES CLUBS By NORMA NIpper Phone 2206 RICHARDS-MARTIN SCHOOL OF DANCING TO PRESENT NINTH ANNUAL PAGEANT For the ninth consecutive year the Richards-Martin School of Dancing of 719 North Los Angeles, will present a Dance Pageant at the Anaheim Union high school auditorium, the proceeds of which will be turned to the P.-T. A. council who will use the money toward the establishment of the "Teen Age Recreational Center" in Anaheim, on Wednesday evening, July 19, at 8:15 o'clock for a two hour and fifteen minute show. The various numbers of the pageant are beautifully staged, well timed, exciting in their arrangements of variety, color and clever dance work. Those who have seen these pageants in previous years know of the perfection achieved in the work of the students. Many of the vaudeville acts by the students of the 17 to 23 year group are equal to the very best of concert acts. Extremely beautiful costumes have been secured for the groups of all ages and Mrs. Martin stated that this year's show promises to be one of greater beauty and finer work than has ever been presented heretofore. The "Ten Age" Canteen that is being established by the Anaheim Council of Parent-Teachers association will be located at 504 West Center street, and will provide a place for the teen-age youngsters to enjoy their own recreational center. The formal opening of the center will be held on Saturday, July 15 and will be for the young people of 14 to 19 years of age. Other civic organizations of the city, city and county government. Silver Wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Roquet Celebrated Friday Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Roquet on 757 North Zeyn street, were honored last Friday evening when their daughters, Mrs. John Richardson and Miss Eloise Roquet, entertained at open house to celebrate their twenty-fifth wedding date. More than seventy-five guests were present to enjoy the occasion. Assisting with the hostess duties was Mrs. Woodford Little, the former Miss Mary Lo Schumacker. The rooms of the home was profusely decorated with various flowers, gifts from their friends. The buffet was decorated with a huge bouquet of white gladiolus and delphinium in a lovely silver vase, a gift from her mother, Mrs. Rachel Singer. Silver bells and ribbons were used to complete this decoration. The center of attraction was the wedding picture taken of Mr. and Mrs. Roquet twenty-five years ago, this causing much merriment due to the oddity of the clothing, hairdress etc., of that date. The tea table was lovely with a white rayon cloth and centered with a three tiered wedding cake around which was attractively arranged eighteen white gardenias, a gift of Mr. and Mrs. Wm Schumacker. White candles with silver service on the table completed the table arrangement. In the receiving line were Mr. and Mrs. Roquet and their two daughters, Mrs. Richardson and Miss Eloise Roquet. Mrs. Roquet was dressed in a lovely navy and white dress with which she wore a rose corsage. A short musical program was given with Mrs. Richardson and Marilyn Rogers playing several accordion numbers and Miss Eloise playing several piano selections. Annual Benefit of Pan-Helenic Club To Be Friday, July 21 The Northern Orange County Pan Hellenic Association will have their annual benefit at the Fullerton Junior college lounge on Friday, July 21, at 1 o'clock, a dessert-bridge, using for the theme "The Stressing of Beauty and Personality During Wartime." This promises to be an event of extra interest to the ladies since the Max Factor Studio of Hollywood, one of the outstanding beauty authorities on cosmetics in the nation, will have a representative at this benefit and who has promised an outstanding demonstration of cosmetics and their uses. The Northern Orange County Pan Hellenic Association is a group of women who are alumni of the national social sororities of California Universities and Colleges and their purpose is philanthropic work, which during this wartime is making of surgical dressings for the Red Cross. The chief purpose of this group of women is the annual scholarship that is given each year to some worthy high school girl in northern Orange county who plans to continue her education in Fullerton Junior college. The annual benefit is to raise money for this purpose. Mrs. Dale Thetteplace of Fullerton is chairman of the dessert-bridge with Mrs. Albert DeLand as so-chairman. Contract and auction bridge will be played during the afternoon with the tickets to cost one dollar. What is it that's been going down while other things were going up? Roberts-Schmidt Wedding at Chapel Miss Barbara June Roberts and Albert Schmidt were united in marriage before the garden altar at the Capillo de San Antonio on Friday of last week with the Rev. L. E. Eifert, pastor of the Zion Lutheran church, Anaheim, performing the double ring ceremony before a few close friends and relatives. A lovely corsage completed the bride's costume, the young couple wearing matching suits. George Nickles, brother of the bride, gave her in marriage, with Miss June Nickles, her sister, her only attendant. Ervin Spires was best man. The young couple will establish their home in Anaheim following a short honeymoon.
