Chris Steinborn, Resident 40 Years Passes Away Sat. Chris Steinborn, a resident of Anaheim for the past forty years, passed away last Saturday, June 17, at the county hospital. His home was at 112 East Adele street. He was 78 years old. Mr. Steinborn was born in Clay county, Kansas. His survivors are three nephews, John Steinborn of Anaheim; Charles Martin of Los Angeles and Theodore M. Orciere of Riverside; one brother, John L. Steinborn of Manchester, Kans. Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the chapel of the Backs, Campbell and Kaulbars Mortuary with the Rev. Thomas L. Burden, pastor of the White Temple Methodist church, delivering the sermon. Burial was in Anaheim cemetery. Wessel, 80 years of age, passed away in Whittier on Monday evening. The family home is at 224 North Clementine, Anaheim. She was born in Davenport, Iowa, and had lived in Anaheim for the past twenty-four years. Survivors are one son, Edward Wessel of Montebello; one daughter, Laura Nicholson of Wisner, Nebr.; three grandchildren, Edward Wessel, Jr., who is a midshipman at the Naval Academy at Anapolis, Md., Jane Louise and Marlene Ann Wessel, both of Montebello. Services will be under the direction of the Christian Science church this (Thursday) afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the chapel of Backs, Campbell and Kaulbars Mortuary with entombment in Loma Vista Mausoleum. A marriage license was issued on Monday of this week to David Daniel Bartchard of Anaheim and Evelyn Lucille Williams of Fullerton. 'Snowbirds' To Flight In 9th Annual Yacht Race at Newport From one to a hundred years is the only age for the ninth annual "Flight the Snowbirds" to be held Sunday, August 6, at 1:30 on Newport Harbor, according to W.K. Lewis, who heads the Committee handling this year's novice yachting event. Increased awards are offered Trophies go to the first ten finish the race. Added special prizes are, to the first girl to finish an award given by Mr. Healy, Commodore of the Bay Yacht club. An award given by Commodore Albert Soiland to youngest girl to finish. Rules the race will be drawn by a committee of the Newport Harbor gatta association and the age of one to hundred and one year is the first rule the committee made. Plans are also being made by the club to conduct the War Bond sale next Monday at the bond booth on Center street. The club will provide a program and the members will go from their meeting place to the bond platform where they will buy and sell bonds during the afternoon. Mr. William Fackiner of Anaheim entertained the club with several vocal solos. He was enthusiastically applauded by members of the club. He was accompanied on the piano by Miss Helen Pifer. Mr. Fackiner is soloist in the Uterpi Opera Reading club in Los Angeles and is also soloist at the West Adams Presbyterian church in Los Angeles. George Hedstrom, chairman of the U. S. O. party committee, announced that plans for the party sponsored by the Rotary club to be held in Santa Ana next Saturday evening were almost completed. He announced that Earl Silzle was donating several gallons of orange juice for the occasion and that twenty cakes had been promised by members of the club. Admission to this concert will be by Bond purchase only and tickets will be issued to all bond buyers starting today and continuing until the hour of the concert. Noted as a perfectionist in his own work, Lieut. Rudy Vallee has drilled his service band to a degree of perfection seldom equalled either in civilian or service life and its scheduled appearance in Anaheim should be an event of unique importance. The Anaheim Bond committee feel that they are very fortunate in being able to bring this famous organization to Anaheim and expressed the belief that citizens of this community will be eager to buy their bonds now in order that they may receive tickets admitting them to this splendid two hours of entertainment. There are 43 Coast Guardsmen in the organization which will present its entertainment on July 1st, including 33 of the nation's best musicians as well as top flight entertainers' and, of course Rudy, the original crooner, himself. County-Wide Scout Court of Honor at Santa Ana June 29 A county-wide Court of Honor for the Scouts of Orange County will be held at the Willard Junior high school in Santa Ana at 8:00 p.m., on Thursday, June 29th, for the purpose of awarding Star, Life, and Eagle awards to higher ranking Scouts in this area. Judge Kenneth Morrison, chairman of the advancement committee will preside at this Court of Honor. The Eagle Scout Awards will be made by General Martin F. Scanlon, acting Commanding Officer of the Western Air Force Training Command. Other high ranking military officers will be guests of honor on this occasion. The Orange Empire Area Council, with headquarters in Santa Ana, and the Northern Orange County Council, with headquarters in Anaheim, will join in this ceremony which is the high-light of Scout activities for the year. A fine program has been prepared for this occasion and parents and friends of Scouting are invited to attend. HERE FOR SUMMER Miss Mary Nudent of Landa, Wyoming, is here visiting with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Mattis, 861 South Palm street, and plans to spend the summer here. Last Sunday a number of the children of Mr. and Mrs. Matts gathered at the home along with several service boys from Miss Mary's home in Wyoming. The local organization will join with 45 other Southern California Chapters in the celebration which will commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Order of DeMolay in America. The Master Councilor and Advisor's will lead the members and their fathers in the participation of the many events scheduled in the day long program. An all Southern California swimming meet will be held in the morning followed by an entertainment program in the Montebello high school auditorium. Lieut. HARRY ZAISER SELLS ANAHEIM ORANGE GROVE Sale of the Dr. Harry Zaiser 10-acre orange grove on East North street, Anaheim, for a consideration of $25,000 was announced this week. The price represents $2,500 per acre for the land and trees as is not otherwise improved. The trees are 10 to 15 years old and in full bearing. Funeral Rites For Marjorie Edwards Held Last Monday Funeral services for Marjorie Doris Edwards, who was killed in an airplane crash near Childress, Texas on Tuesday, June 13, were conducted from the Hilgenfeld chapel on Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The Rev. Thomas L. Burden, pastor of the White Temple Methodist church of which Miss Edwards was a member, officiated and burial was in Loma Vista Memorial park. Survivors are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred C. Edwards; one sister, Mrs. Granville Hopkins of Nyland; one brother, Fred E. Edwards, Jr., of Anaheim; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Elizabeth Edwards of England; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Metz of Santa Ana and a host of friends. IN FULLERTON HOSPITAL Edward P.
