OUR BOYS WITH THE COLORS and THEIR SISTERS IN THE COUNTRY'S SERVICE TED SHERIDAN HOME ON TWO WEEKS FURLOUGH Pvt. Ted Sheridan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo J. Sheridan of 402 North Lemon street, arrived here last Monday from Camp Polk, La., on a two weeks furlough from his duties. He is in a signal depot supply company. Ted is a graduate of the Anaheim Union Highschool with the class of 1943 and entered the service on Dec. 27th. His many young friends are glad to see him home again. LT. BERCOT GETS PROMOTION IN RANK Lt. Bercot, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene G. Bercot of Route 4, Anaheim, was among the four Orange county Army officers to received a promotion in rank to first lieutenant according to a recent War department announcement. He has been stationed with an Air force group at Altus, Okla., for the past year. Prior to entering the service in October, 1941, Lt. Bercot was attending Fullerton Junior college. He is a graduate of Anaheim WINS PROMOTION IN ARMY-AIR CERVICE Glenn Eugene Bercot, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Bercot, South street, Anaheim, has been promoted from second to first lieutenant in the army air service, according to a War department announced. Lt Bercot is a graduate of Anaheim Union high school and Fullerton Junior college and entered the service in October, 1941, before Pearl Harbor. He has been stationed at Altus, Oklahoma, for the past year. CPL. SCHINHOFEN AT CAMP VAN DORN, MISS. Cpl. Henry Schinhofen, Jr., who was recently home on furlough is now at Camp Van Dorn, Miss. He was stationed in the Aleutian Islands for several months before being sent back home. His address at present is: Cpl. Henry W. Schinhofen, Jr., ASN 6583705, Hq. Bat. 75 FA Bn., Camp Van Dorn, Miss. COMPLETES V-12 COURSE AT COLLEGE Apprentice Seaman Stanford Nelson Kerr, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Kerr of 206 East Adele street, Anaheim, is among the ninety-eight students completing V-12 course at Occidental college and received their certificates from Lt. Com. Byron C. Wanglin. He will be sent to the Navy Supply Corps school at Harvard University. Stanford is a grauate of the Anaheim Union high school and was very prominent in the curricular activities of the school. RECEIVES LETTER FROM BROTHER IN ENGLAND Miss Lillian Knutson of the ATWOOD MARINE HOMES FROM OVERSEAS DUTY Pfc. William R. Soza of S. COAST ARTILLERY SOUTH HOME ON FURLOUGH Cpl. Loui De Los Reyes Coast Artillery service is ing a furlough from army and visiting relatives and He is the son of Mrs. Ma Los Reyes of Atwood. He last Thursday for a two leave of absence. ANAHEIM YOUTH IN MARINE CORPS BASE Boyd Ventura Diaz, South Lemon street, Anaheim now undergoing recruit as a private at the Marine Base, San Diego. Upon completion of his training he will be assign fighting unit or a sp school for further instruction. He is a graduate of Anaheim high school. Last January Lt. Bercot married Lt. Katherine Woods, an Army nurse. SON WRITES FROM SOMEWHERE IN ENGLAND Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Patrick, 212 South Ohio, received a letter Saturday, the first since the French coast invasion, from their son, Cpl. James W. Patrick, who is stationed "somewhere in England." The letter was written on May 28 before the invasion on June 6. He said he had met S/Sgt Melvin Strachner of Anaheim who is now a gunner in the armed forces. They were former schoolmates here at Washington school and Anaheim Union high school. He also stated that the weather was nice an dthe countryside in England is very beautiful at this season of the year. FULLERTON MAN IS LISTED AS WOUNDED Martin Nichols Bullis, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin N. Bullis, Sr., 308 Cannon Lane, Fullerton, has been wounded while in the convoy service in the North Atlantic, according to an announcement made recently by the Navy department. Although his parents were notified in the latter part of April that he had been wounded, no definite information was given as to the nature or seriousness of his wounds. Martin is an aviation ordnanceman, third class, and enlisted on Dec. 10, 1942. He took his training at the Naval Training school at Norman, Okla., and at the ordnance school at Lansing, Mich. HOME ON LEAVE Miss Barbara R. Heying, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Heying of 514 North Clementine street, Anaheim, is at home on leave visiting with her parents, relatives and her many friends. She is a Pharmacist Mate 2/c and is stationed at Norfolk Navy Yard, Portsmouth, Va. RECEIVES LETTER FROM BROTHER IN ENGLAND Miss Lillian Knutson of the Chamber of Commerce received a letter on Monday from her brother, Cpl. Noble M. Knutson, who is now in England with the Army Mail Service, or at least was when the letter was written on May 31. The letter was not postmarked until June 8, indicating that the mail was probably held up for a few days pending the invasion on June 6. Coming by air mail the letter was 11 days enroute. WIDOW OF LT. JAMISON RECEIVES HIGH AWARD Mrs. Iola W. Jamison, widow of the late Lt. Roger W. Jamison of Fullerton, who lost his life in a bombing mission in order that members of his crew might live, was presented posthumously last Sunday at a ceremony at the Santa An Army Air Base the Distinguished Flying Cross, the second highest honor the Army can bestow. Lt. Jamison met his death on March 29, 1943, when the aircraft he was piloting was badly damaged by a heavy burst of anti-aircraft fire and burst into flames. The gallant flier kept the plane on its course until it had released its bomb load and the three crew members had jumped to safety. ORANGE ARMY COLONEL DIES IN ENGLAND Lt. Col. Stanley Lomax, 50, of the Army Engineering Corps, passed away in England following a two weeks illness, according to word received by Mrs. Lomax at her home in Orange on Monday. Col. Lomax was a native of Denver, Colo., and joined the Army Engineers two years ago. He has been overseas for a year. A daughter, Betty, and one son, Stanley, Jr., of the home also survive. JOINS MARINES Ronald Harvey Robb, 26, of 828 South Philadelphia street, Anaheim, is now a private in the U.S. Marine Corps, it was announced today. He is taking his recruit training at the Marine Corps Base, San Diego. Upon completion of his basic instruction he will be assigned to a combat unit or a specialist's school for further training. KEITH BURDICK HERE ON 30-DAY LEAVE OM 1/c Keith Burdick, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Burdick, 735 North Olive, is here on a thirty day leave from his duties in the U.S. Navy, having been on active duty in the South Pacific theaters of war. This is his first visit at home for nearly three years. CLARK BROWN ENLISTS IN NAVY Clark Brown, who has recently enlisted in the Navy, is now in Farragut, Idaho, to begin his training. He was honored with a farewell dinner in the home of his parents Mr. and Mrs. J. Golden Brown of Boulevard Gardens, before he left. Others participating were his wife, Lucille, and their daughter, Beverly, of Anaheim; Mr. and Mrs. Homer Slater and daughter, Jo An of Wintersburg; Mrs. Delbert Penhall of Boulevard Gardens.
