NEW OFFICERS ASSUME DUTIES OF ASSISTANCE LEAGUE AT RECENT MEETING, REPORT ON YEAR'S WORK
The new officers assumed their duties for the working year of 1944-45 at the annual meeting last Thursday of the local chapter of the Assistance league when the acting and sustaining members met at the beautiful country home of Mrs. Sam Kraemer near Placentia. The new officers as elected are Mrs. Chas. Pearson, chairman; Mrs. P. E. Fluor, vice-chairman; Mrs. Fred Weisel, secretary and Mrs. A. B. Wilmsen, treasurer.
Reports of the various chairmen were most gratifying and the work accomplished during the past year serves as another milestone along the path of this worthy organization in the fine projects accomplished. The Assistance league was organized during World War I to aid the Red Cross in its many duties here at home and again in World War II, they have taken Red Cross work as their main project and the report of the work accomplished is something with which the members can feel justly proud. They have assisted in war bond drives and other help where it was needed. Outstanding has been the work in the camps and hospitals assisting with the personal problems of the service men and other work equally as necessary.
A total of 10,177 hours of work at Red Cross headquarters were also reported.
Second in importance with this group of ladies is the community and civilian and local projects. In this division is the maintenance of the hospital bed, the humicrib and overator at the Anaheim Lutheran hospital, Boy and Girl Scout work, aid to the tubercular, crippled children, USO center work, benefit tea for the Red Cross, the purchase of bonds and a great many other projects equally as worthy.
The local organization installed a shower and donated 100 towels at the servicemen's quarters in the basement of the Angelina Hotel.
Recognition was given the ladies for their part in financing a sunroom, one of the thirty, at Santa Ana Army Air Base, being changed into rehabilitation rooms for neurosis servicemen patients.
The social hour was most delightful, Mrs. Kraemer introducing Mrs. Lois Reese Auer, well known Orange county dramatic artist, who gave an excellent interpretation of "The Post Road."
The beautifully arranged tea table had for the centerpiece an arrangement of coral hibiscus
