Vacation Church School To Open Monday, June 12
Anaheim's Sixth Annual Vacation Church school for all boys and girls of the Community will open Monday, June 12, and run for two weeks, closing Friday, June 23. Because of the anticipated record enrollment, the school this year will be held in two churches simultaneously. The Beginners and Primary departments will meet at the Church of Christ, the Juniors and Intermediates at the Presbyterian church. Both churches are in the 300 block on west Broadway.
Rev. Earl R. Berg, president of the Anaheim Ministerial Union, is the general superintendent with Mrs. Mary Casebeer, Mrs. Ella Sittenhoff, and Mrs. Wilma Head, assistants. Fifty teachers and helpers will aid these leaders in the various aspects of the program, including the members of the Ministerial Union. Still other helpers are needed. Call Mr. Berg.
One thousand boys and girls is the enrollment goal this year. All children of all religious faiths are welcome. Ages run from 2 to 14 years, a nursery being provided for the very small children. There is no tuition or admission charge. The school hours will be 9:00 to 11:30 a.m., each day, Monday through Friday for the two week period.
Value of adequate products plants for the California-Arizona citrus industry was apparent in the third week of April when Southern California products plants handled 4,781 tons of oranges.
With eggs and lemons plentiful, now is the time for the California housewife to surprise her husband.
Marjorie Herron, Former Resident, Dies at Son’s Home
Oscar F. Elliott, father of Volney O. Elliott, principal of the George Washington school in Anaheim passed away at the age of 75 years, Monday at his home at 200 Mills Drive, this city.
He was born in Zenith, Indiana, coming to Anaheim in 1925 where he has since resided. He was a member of the I. O. O. F. in Carrington, N. D.
Survivors are his wife, Louise T., of the home; four sons, W. Walter of Colton, Joe C. of North Hollywood, Volney O. of Anaheim, and Edward L. of Santa Ana; four daughters, Mrs. Stanley Baney of Colton, Mrs. Henry C. Walker of Santa Ana, Mrs. Glen R. Reymers of Portland, Ore., and Mrs. Alfonso Hamann of Newport Beach; 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted today (Thursday) in the chapel of the Backs, Campbell and Kaulbars Mortuary at 2 p.m., with Rev. H. G. Schmelzer, former pastor of Zion Lutheran church, with entombment in Melrose Abbey. The members of the I. O. O. F. lodge were in charge of the rites at Melrose Abbey.
Oscar F. Elliott, Father of School Principal, Passes
Mrs. Marjorie Herron passed away at the home of her son, Donald Herron in Clearwater on Sunday, May 14. She was 48 years old at the time of her death.
She was born in Brooklyn and was a former resident of Anaheim, moving with her family to La Habra about sixteen years ago. She had been visiting with her son two weeks before her death.
She leaves as her survivors her husband, Leslie C. Herron of La-Habra Eastern Star. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery at Whittier.
