CHRISTIAN SCIENCE "Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light." This quotation from Ephesians will be the golden Text in the Sunday Lesson-Sermon on "Adam and Fallen Man" in all branches of the Mother Church, the First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston. A Lesson-Sermon passage from the first chapter of Genesis reads: "And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: . And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good ... and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made." The record taken from the second chapter of Genesis says, "But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground. And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy writes, "The second chapter of Genesis contains a statement of this material view of God and the universe, a statement which is the exact opposite of scientific truth as before recorded." "With a single command, Mind had made man, both male and female. How then could a material organization become the basis of man?" ST MICHAEL'S EPISCOPAL East Adele at Emily. The Rev. D. Howard Dow, pastor. Holy communion at 8 a.m. Public worship and church school at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, May 14th is the 71st anniversary of the founding of the Episcopal Church in Anaheim. A special sermon will be delivered by the Rev. Henry W. Roth, rector of St. Mary's Church, Laguna Beach. A year ago Rev. Roth, rector of St. Mary's Church, was dean of All Saints Cathedral in Albany, New York, and was appointed to the St. Mary's Church in Laguna Beach last September. The All Saints Cathedral is one of the largest churches in this country and is also the church to which Gov. Thos. E. Dewey belongs. CAVARY BAPTIST Earl R. Berg, pastor. The Fraternal Order of the Eagles will be guests for this hour of worship. "What Is Jesus Christ Doing?" will be the topic of the sermon for the evening service at 7:30 o'clock. GRACE LUTHERAN Rev. H. J. Knappe, pastor. Bernard Baumbach, Sunday School Superintendent. Morning Worship, 10:30 a.m., Sunday School, 9:30 a.m. Next Sunday's theme: "Faith for the Family." Last Sunday Sermon excerpt: We speak of our need of mechanized power on our battle fields, but have we given any thought to the desperate need of power in our Christian lives? Just as gun-powder needs to be ignited in order to have its power released, so also we as Christians need the Spirit of Christ in His Holy Word to fire our soul, that we might be used as powerful testimonies, eagerly fulfilling our mission of bringing those who would see Jesus, to Him, and bringing Christ to those who don't want to See Him, but need Christ. This is the excerpt of the sermon with its theme: "Calling All Christians." Text: "We would see Jesus." BETHEL BAPTIST H. G. Dymmel, minister. Walter G. Schroeder, Sunday school superintendent, with school at 10:00 a.m. Morning worship hour at 11:00 o'clock, the sermon subject, "Jochabed, an Ideal Mother." During the morning service the mothers and babies will be presented. Rev. O. R. Schroeder will occupy the pulpit in the absence of Rev. Dymmel, who is attending conference in Milwaukee, Wis. The young people will have charge of the evening service at 7:00 o'clock. Henry W. Roth, rector of St. Mary's church, Laguna Beach, will deliver the principal address. Rev. Roth was dean of All Saint's Cathedral in New York City until a year ago when he asked to be assigned to the west coast in order that he may find a better climate for his health. He was sent to the Laguna Beach church and is well liked among the members there. He is an excellent speaker and his message will be one to be long remembered. The church here was founded on May 15, 1873, with the first services being held in the old Enterprise hall at the corner of Los Angeles and Chartres streets. A Sunday school was started by Miss Susan M. La Faucherie and out of this group came the congregation. Bishop Kip of the diocese of California was requested to send a rector here. As a result of this request the first rector assigned to the church was Rev. C. F. Loop who organized the parish. Two years later the present church edifice was erected. With a plain exterior, the interior is very lovely, being built on the plan of an English village church. Redwood used in the building was cut near San Francisco and shipped to Anaheim Landing. From there it was brought to Anaheim by ox teams. As an Episcopal church, it is a part of the Angelican communion, the mother church of which is the Church of England. It is Catholic for every truth of God and Protestant against every error of man. The services are from the Book of Common Prayer. The present priest and rector, the Rev. D. Howard Dow, has been in charge of the parish for more than fourteen years and needs no introduction to the people of Anaheim. St. Michael's church is one of the oldest churches in Anaheim and its history is a beautiful monument to its service in the community. No Anaheim resident can afford to be without The Gazette at the small cost of only $2.00 a year.
