Legion Takes In Three New Members
Three new members were taken into the Anaheim post of American Legion last Monday night. They are William Christiansen, Omar B. Roy and Leroy Arasmith. The meeting was held in the city hall clubrooms, and the evening's program was concluded with a spaghetti feed.
Following the business session members saw late war pictures, shown by Charles Rogers through the courtesy of the Standard Oil Co. of California. These official pictures were all sound pictures and were explained by a narrator.

El Toro Marine Base Expansion Starts Tuesday, Ground Breaking Ceremonies
Expansion of the El Toro Marine Air Station was officially started Tuesday when eleborate ground breaking ceremonies were held with many notables from the armed services in attendance. Plans call for an expenditure of $11,-208,000 in an enlargement program that will include barracks, runways, bachelor officers' quarters, control tower, hangars, auditorium seating 2000, and a photographic laboratory.
Other large scale appropriations have been made for naval station improvements in the county amounting to several additional millions of dollars for work at San Clemente and Los Alamitos and $4,000,000 to be spent for weapons and training facilities at Camp Pendleton.
Anaheim was represented at the ceremonies held Tuesday at El Toro by Oscar W. Heying and Ross Lee Laird, president and secretary, respectively of the chamber of commerce.
Col. Wm. J. Fox of the El Toro base was in charge of the ceremonies and introduced Maj. Gen. Ralph Cousins, command general of the Western Training Command, and Capt. George M. Revenscroft, assistant commandant of the 11th naval district of San Diego, who turned the first dirt with a bright and shiny shovel which was the signal for the big Army Dog Training Explained To Lions At Noon Meeting
Training dogs for war was the subject of an interesting talk by Lieut. Roland J. McDonald, chief of the dog training program in the eleven western states for the U.S. armed forces, given at Friday's noon luncheon meeting of the Anaheim Lions club.
Recounting his experiences in the dog training division of the army Lt. McDonald gave a detailed account of how the dogs are selected for army duty and of their training course. He gave some interesting bits of history dealing with war dogs, indicating that dogs have always been used by opposing armies, although not to the extent they are being used in the present war.
The Santa Ana Army Air Base dog training center is developed into one of the largest of the five training schools in the United States, he said.
The speaker was introduced by Leo Fabian who doubled on the day's program by giving a prepared talk on the life of St. Patrick, the meeting being on St. Patrick's Day. According to his

Revenscroft, assistant commandant of the 11th naval district of San Diego, who turned the first dirt with a bright and shiny shovel which was the signal for the big earth moving bulldozers and scrapers to go into action.
It has been officially announced by Col. Stanley E. Riderhof, chief of staff, Marine Fleet Air, West Coast, as the representative of Brig. Gen. William J. Wallace, that the El Toro Marine Base would remain as a permanent base after the war.
With the large naval ordnance supply depot now being installed at Anaheim Landing, and other defense developments, Orange county is destined to be an important spot on the coast defense picture in the future.
AT FAYETTE, BO.

STATIONED IN IDAHO
George Hatfield of 211 South Kroeger street, who recently was in Farragut, Idaho, where he is taking his preliminary training.
According to his research, St. Patrick was born in the year 373 of British parents. At 16 years of age he was kidnapped and taken as a slave to Ireland. After six years he escaped to France where he became a priest, later returning to Ireland where he founded the Catholic church.
Deputy District Governor Frank Shofelt of Seal Beach was present and inducted a new member. Marvin Miller, who was introduced by Bob Rossberg.
Louis Hoskins introduced Bob Bean of the U. S. Navy, who is home on leave after long service in the Mediterranean area. He previously spent seven years at sea, 1931 to 1938, returning to the service when the war started.
Jim Perry of Santa Ana was the guest of O. E. Hanson.
Dist. Gov. Louis Hoskins announced a meeting of the Orange County Council of Lions clubs to be held here on April 13.

A RED CROSS representative will call upon you soon. And when that call comes, remember...
Unless you give and give generously, the Red Cross may not meet its quota this year.
Unless everybody digs down deep, it may fail your boy when he needs it most.
It costs real money to collect life-giving blood for field hospitals half a world away. It costs real money to send food to your boys in enemy war prisons. It costs real money to transplant that little bit of Baltimore or Sioux City or Pasadena—in the form of Red Cross canteens—to cities 10,000 miles away from home.
Your boy is counting on you. The Red Cross is counting on you. The Red Cross is YOU!
So when its representative calls upon you to help, you simply mustn't say "No."
The RED CROSS is at his side
and the Red Cross is YOU!
