D. Howard Dow To Serve on Church Commission The Los Angeles dioceses canon law of the Episcopal church is to be revised next year for the first time in 60 years, it was announced this week by the Rev. D. Howard Dow of St. Michael’s Episcopal church, who has been asked to serve on the commission that will make studies towards this end during 1944. Rev. Dow was one of five clergymen in the dioceses chosen by the Right Rev. W. Bertrand Stevens of Los Angeles to serve in this capacity. The commission is composed of five clergymen and four lawyers. Lenten Bible Class Has Third Meeting The third in a series of Bible Study classes was conducted Wednesday noon at the First Presbyterian church under the auspices of the local Y. M. C. A. This is the 17th consecutive year that the classes have been conducted during the lenten season and are given for the benefit of all interested men in Anaheim. At Wednesday's luncheon study class the speaker was Rev. Thomas L. Burden of the White Temple Methodist church. Mr. Wilbur Boney is committee chairman for the activity. D. Howard Dow of St. Michael's Episcopal church will present a class to him for confirmation. This year the visit will be made by the Right Rev. Robert B. Goodin, suffragan bishop of the diocese. The confirmation service will be held at 5 o'clock in the afternoon and will be followed by the Bishop's tea in the parish hall. Members and friends of the church are cordially invited to attend. Tea will be served by members of St. Agnes Guild and the Women's Auxiliary. ENTERTAINS CHURCH GROUP Mrs. Margaret Anderson of 604 North Lemon street was hostess last week to the S.O.S. circle of the Wesley Methodist church. Following the Bible study hour a social hour was enjoyed. Dr. and Mrs. Arthur Elliott of North Clementine street have recently sold their home to Mr. and Mrs. Ray Reafsnyder of this city and will move soon to their new home on Helithrope drive in Santa Ana. Methodist Church To Hold Week's Evangelism A week of inspiring evangelistic services will be held by five Methodist churches of Northern Orange county including the Wesley Methodist and the White Temple Methodist churches of Anaheim. The services will begin on Monday, March 27, and be completed on Friday, March 31. They will be held at the Wesley church each evening at 7:30 o'clock and the address will be given by a different minister each night. Music will be rendered by visiting choirs and local talent and the public is cordially invited to attend. The program for the week will be as follows: Monday night, Rev. Ray Ragsdale of Fullerton will preach on "Finding and Following the Will of God" and will be a service class night. On Tuesday Rev. Thomas L. Burden of Anaheim will preach on "The Highest Form of Prayer." This will be Women's Society Christian Service night. Church school night will be held Wednesday with the Rev. Roy Mason of La Habra talking on "The Surrendered Life." Thursday, Rev. Forest Woodside of Yorba Linda will talk on "Where Do You Live?" This will be adult class night. FIRE FIGHTERS WANTED Twenty Firefighters needed at once to protect one of our government agencies in Orange County. Men must be experienced and have worked in a Fire Department. Hours are twenty-four on and twenty-four off. These positions are vital to the war effort. All positions carry 26 days annual leave and 15 days sick leave a year. NEW CLASS TO START A new home nursing class sponsored by the Red Cross will begin Wednesday, March 29 at 7:30 o'clock. The weekly sessions will be held in the Girls' League room at the Anaheim Union high school and the instructor will be from Long Beach. It is hoped that many will attend this class as there is a vital need in this line, Mrs. H. H. Thackner, chairman, stated. INJURES ANKLE While doing some repair work on his house Walter Walton of Nutwood avenue fell, recently, and seriously injured an ankle. GOES TO BIG CITY Mrs. K. V. Caldwell of The Gazette advertising office returned Monday from San Francisco after a week end visit with her husband who is stationed there in the anti-aircraft artillery. CHECK WRITTEN IN WORLD WAR FOUND HERE A cancelled check dated August 16, 1918, on the treasurer of the Azusa Citrus Association and Ellis S. Taylor Dies In Las Vegas After A Brief Illness Funeral services were held today at 2 o'clock for Ellis S. Taylor, 47, who passed away in Las Vegas last Saturday following a brief illness. The deceased was a resident of Anaheim for 14 years although for the last two years he was employed in Las Vegas. Services were held at the Hilgenfeld chapel and were conducted by officials of the Latter Day Saints church. Entombment was made in Melrose Abbey mausoleum. The deceased is survived by his wife, Florence C. Taylor, who resides at 225 E. Cypress street; four sons, Elmore C. of Brea, Frank C. of San Diego and Howard E. and Allen R. who are serving with the armed forces; one daughter, Janet Taylor and mother, Mrs. M. Taylor of Anaheim; six sisters, Mrs. Jennie Brisco of Salt Lake, Mrs. Zina Elmore of Chicago, Mrs. Manila Stearman of Oakland, Mrs. Clara McMullen of Long Beach, Mrs. Mary Chambers of Fullerton and Mrs. Dorothy Dutton of Anaheim; three brothers, Frank C. and Clyde Taylor of Ontario and Claude Taylor who is with the armed forces and one grandchild. MEETS Mrs. Fannie Goddard of North Clementine street was hostess to members of the W.C.T.U. Tuesday afternoon. County convention delegates presented reports and a skit was presented by the hostess. HELP WANTED AT NAVAL BASE AT ALAMITOS A call for help, of all kinds, civilians experienced in all trades and clerical work, are badly needed at the Navy Air Base at Los Alamitos, according to officials there. Every type of mechanic, electricians, small boiler operators, etc., etc., as well as office workers, are asked to apply at the base, or to any branch of the U.S. Employment Service. CHECK WRITTEN IN WORLD WAR FOUND HERE A cancelled check dated August 16, 1918, on the treasurer of the Azusa Citrus Association and payable through the First National Bank of Azusa, and which was paid on August 19, 1918, was found on the street in front of The Gazette office. The check was payable to Mrs. A. L. Willeford and signed by M. T. Durrell and W. W. Heth. After nearly 26 years the check is in a perfect state of preservation. The amount of the check was $3.02. PARENT CLASSES START The first of a series of classes in parent education was conducted Tuesday night in the library of the high school. The classes are being conducted by J. Shailer Arnold from the Fullerton junior college. The classes are open to all interested parents or friends, the hours being from 7:30 to 9:30 o'clock each Tuesday night.
