Trusteeship Is Sought For Property Of Missing La Habra Rancher Adding another chapter to what has all the elements of a first-class mystery story, C. L. Jordan has petitioned Orange county superior court to place in his care, the 10-acre citrus grove and residence on La Mirada road, La Habra, of Landon S. Guthrie, said to have disappeared about a year ago. Jordan bases his petition for trusteeship on contention that the property has been sadly neglected. The lemon trees have been attacked by citrus pests, and county authorities have been asked to have them removed because of menace to nearby groves. Jordan maintains that with proper care, the trees can be saved and brought back to productivity. In his petition, Jordan explains that Guthrie, his close friend, disappeared leaving behind all his assets, including with the lemon grove and home, some $2,500 on deposit to his credit at the packing plant which marketed his fruit. Jordan advanced the opinion that Guthrie left voluntarily because he feared being drafted to the armed services, although he is approximately 40 years of age. A new angle on the mysterious absence of the rancher was given this week, when it was learned that Constable W. H. Skillman of Fullerton township, asserted that when he tried to serve papers on Guthrie, he was informed by the latter's friends and relatives that he has been absent some three years. The entire matter came into prominence again through routine presentation of a petition to superior court for permission to destroy pest-laden trees. Abatement action was filed last November by Agricultural Commissioner Dixon W. Tubbs. He appeared again to press his plea that he be given right to destroy some of the pest-laden trees on the Guthrie ranch, claiming that they endanger other groves. Superior Judge Kenneth E. Morrison granted the petition but withheld abatement order until March 1, in order that a petition for trusteeship be heard before enforcement eradication order and the work may be done under pervision. Hockaday and the directorate of Santa Ana Chamber of Commerce, Harry L. Hanson, well known in county banking circles, will assume the secretaryship of the Santa Ana chamber on Wednesday, Feb. 16. Hanson has been connected with Santa Ana First National bank for the past 36 years. He resigned Monday as assistant cashier in order to accept the post with the chamber. He will bring to his new duties, a complete familiarity with chamber affairs, having served the Santa Ana organization as treasurer for the past quarter century. Among Hanson's various civic activities is membership on the California War Finance committee, through which he is head of the Orange County War Bond committee, which is headed in the Anaheim area by Paul H.
