Rev. Archie Crouch
To Return To China Early In February
Scheduled to leave the United States early in February for at least two years of Missionary work in China, as a representative of the First Presbyterian churches of Anaheim and Tustin, the Rev. Archie Crouch, recently returned here from Seattle, Washington, talked at the evening service last Sunday at the Presbyterian church on "Why I Return to China Now."
Mr. and Mrs. Crouch (the former Ellen Gibbs, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank N. Gibbs of East Center street) and their three children have just come back to Anaheim after a year's activity in Washington where Mr. Crouch was doing missionary education work for the Board of Foreign Missions of the Presbyterian church, U.S.A.
Mr. and Mrs. Crouch went to China in 1936 where they spent five years doing missionary work arriving back in the United States in July, 1941. Part of that time they were under Japanese bombardment. When they reached San Francisco harbor they were detained for six days on the line Tatuta Maru. Their first two children were born in China, a boy and a girl. Their youngest son now six months old, was born in Seattle.
Mr. Crouch told the members of the congregation that "I am returning to China now, because there is need there for someone like myself, trained as an agricultural and administrative missionary and because through prayer God has lead me to return when I gave by life to the Lo

Norbert Faessel Is Kiwanis Speaker At Tues. Meeting
Optomistic that the many problems facing the government in Washington will be ironed out in time, Norbert Faessel, fruit and vegetable buyer for a large chain organization, told members of the Kiwanis club Tuesday noon at their regular meeting at the Elk's club, that the farmer wishes to cooperate with the government, but that he is left dangling in mid air much of the time. The speaker is a member of the local club and was introduced by Marion Pickel, program chairman.
He related some of his experiences with various OPA regulations on fruits and vegetables. In his opinion there is hardly an item under OPA control where a black market does not exist. He said that 2700 lawyers are employed by the agency and predicted that investigations of various business concerns would go on long after the war in an effort to keep these lawyers busy.
Giving examples of some of the things going on the speaker said that the onion crop showed present conditions as well as anything. The government had asked for 140 per cent of the onions grown this year, but OPA was tardy in setting the price, hence there was only a 60 per cent crop which the army stepped in and took over.
He also called attention to the fact that the ceiling price on cabbage in the East is less than it costs to deliver California cabbage to that market. When the Eastern cabbage is off the market it means a loss to the dealer if he buys California cabbage.
Continually striving to improve their organization, members of the local Toastmaster's club are eagerly awaiting the report of the area visitation committee which met with them Tuesday evening at the Parker House. The committee is headed by Chariman P. H. Pendleton of the local club and is made up of representatives of Toastmaster clubs from Santa Ana, Orange, Fullerton and Whittier. The group met later for a general discussion of the meeting's conduct prior to making its recommendations.
James Barnett, governor of the district was one of the notable guests present, also, Carl Clinton, secretary of the western division of district one and Graham Albright, governor of the eastern division of district one. Barnett and Clinton are from Los Angeles and Albright from Santa Ana.
The trophy cup for the week was won by Harwood Larson, who made his first speech before the club. His talk was on "Our Japanese Neighbor." Another new member, Donald Schneider gave his autobiography. Other speakers were John Knutzen, "Life of an Orange Tree in California"; Charles Greenwood, "Without a Subject" and Bob Morter of "New Frontiers." Paul Blocheer served as toastmaster and Mr. C. O.. Patterson as critic.
Leo Oden acted as topic master, the members discussing the important question, "Should the Negro Be Granted Equality?"
John Knutzen, chairman of arrangements, announced that Ladies night will be held on December 7 at the Parker House.
Crouch told the members congregation that "I am ready to China now, because I need there for someone myself, trained as an agrifolial and administrative miscellanea and because through God has lead me to return. I gave by life to the Lord real time Christian service were no strings attached. 'I'll go where you want to go.'"
Of Mr. Crouch's return trip he made by plane, flying in Calcutta, India. He will go Bangsha, the very city now seeseiged for the fourth time Japanese in the Huanace. His particular task will with the Christian Cooperative events, a vital part of the art and post-war readjust-program.
Crouch and the children not be able to go with Mr. but they hope to be able date in Anaheim or vicinity. Present they are visiting with another and father, Mr. and Frank N. Gibbs.
