Marriage Of Lynn Bush And Virginia Selves Takes Place One of the pretty weddings of this season was that solomnized last Sunday afternoon at the Capilla de San Antonio when Miss Virginia Evelyn Selves of Compton became the bride of Lynn Bush, S2c, son of Mrs. Mahalie Bush of 119 East Alberta street. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Thomas L. Burden of the White Temple Methodist church, in the presence of members of the family and close friends. White chrysanthemums banked the all white altar and tall tapers in cathedral candleabra softly illuminated the scene. A beautiful bouquet of white rosebuds and gardenias centered with a single orchid accentuated the lovliness of the bride who was smartly attired in a white wool suit with which she wore navy accessories and a poudre blue hat. Mrs. Kenneth Hailey, her sister, served as matron of honor and was charming, in a soft gold afternoon dress and dark brown accessories. She wore a corsage of gardenias. Lou Slusser of the Los Alamitos Naval Air station served as best man. "I Love You Truly," "Because" DeLeon - Landsdown United In Marriage At Air Base Chapel Miss Pauline DeLeon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. De Leon of Coffman road and M/Sgt Berwyn G. Lansdown, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo M. Lansdown of Anaheim were united in marriage Sunday afternoon at two o'clock at the Easterbrook chapel at the Santa Ana Army base with members of the families and close friends attending. Father William Glasby of the base officiated at the double ring ceremony. The small chapel was attractively decorated with gladiolii and lighted tapers. Miss Norma Cornelius of Santa Ana sang “Because” and Shubert's “Ave Maria” preceding the ceremony. Entering on the arm of her father and to the strains of Lohengrin's wedding march, the bride was attractively attired in a floor length formal white gown with which she wore a finger tip veil made attractive with a tiara of orange blossoms. The dress was fashioned with a sweetheart neckline, tightly fitted to the waist and then flaring out to a full skirt. She carried a white leather prayer book and two white orchids. For her “something old, something borrowed and something blue” she wore a blue locket belonging to her sister. Engaged Couple Honored At Party The attractive Merrifield ranch home in Fullerton was the scene of a gay party Sunday afternoon when Mr. A. W. Merrifield, Mrs. Al Marshall and Miss Joan Guss, the latter two from Anaheim, entertained in honor of John Jackson, S1c and son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Jackson of this city, and his bride-elect, Miss Doris Beasley of San Diego. The occasion was a miscellaneous shower for the young couple. Much of the afternoon was spent in the lovely gardens where the bridegroom elect's brother, Dr. Verne Jackson of Los Angeles, took numerous pictures of the honored couple and the guests. Highlighting the opening of the gifts was the poem, composed by Mrs. Clyde Jackson. “Problems of Planning for a Wedding These Uncertain Wartimes.” At the tea hour that followed Mrs. Jackson and Mrs. Al Marshall presided at the tea urn and the punch bowl respectively. The tea table was attractively decorated with white chrysanthemums and sweetpeas and tall white tapers. The reception rooms were softly lit by yellow candles while a yellow and bronze floral arrangement banked the mantlepiece. Those attending from Anaheim included Mr. and Mrs. Art Maahs. Faust accompanied him at the organ and played the wedding marches. Following the ceremony a reception was held at the home of the bridegroom's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bush of South West street. Guests were received by Mrs. Mahalie Bush and the members of the wedding party. The reception rooms were beautifully appointed with white flowers and candles while the bridal table was centered with the tiered wedding cake. Mrs. Hailey and Mrs. Annie Cooley, presided at the tea and coffee urns while Mrs. L. Dale Vilott served the wedding cake. Among those present for the occasion were Mr. and Mrs. G. Cooley of Hollywood, great-aunt and uncle of the bride, and their daughter, Mrs. Frances Snur while those from Anaheim were Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Hankins, Mrs. Eva Gooden, Mrs. Nora H. Dodge, Mr. and Mrs. L. Dale Vilott, Mrs. H. D. Vilott, Mrs. E. F. Payne, Mrs. Truman W. Stuard, Miss Donna Lynn Etuard, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Payne and Mrs. William Dodge. The bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. William B. Selves of Bazaar, Kansas, were unable to be present. The bride is a graduate of Chase County Community high school at Cottonwood Falls, Kansas, and attended California Business college at Los Angeles. She is employed at the Aluminum Company of America as a supervisor. The bridegroom is a graduate of the Anaheim Union high school and attended Fullerton junior college before enlisting in the Navy. He is now stationed at the Los Alimitos base. The new Mr. and Mrs. Bush will make their temporary home at 5413 Kaunara street, Compton, following their brief honeymoon at Lake Arrowhead. At the next regular meeting of the Eastern Star on December 14 the new officers for the coming year will be installed with Mrs. J. B. Hasty taking the chair as worthy matron. Preparatory to this the club wound up its year's business at the last regular meeting held November 23 in the Masonic hall. Mrs. Earl Baum, worthy matron, presided over the meeting and led the initiation services at which time Mrs. Elizabeth Davenport and Mrs. Lucile Anderson became new members. Junior Hostesses To Meet December 6 Towards making plans for the Christmas season all USO junior hostesses of this area are urged to meet at the Fullerton city hall on December 6, Mrs.Julia Hyde county chairman, announced this week. In speaking of the various proposals under consideration she laid stress on the trip to Coachella that has been planned for December 25 and 26. Ten girls from Anaheim are requested to go.The bus will leave from the Fullerton library late Christmas afternoon and will return on Sunday she said.She pointed out that this will be the only holiday merriment that the boys in this isolated camp will have and urged that they young hostesses help to spread holiday cheer in this manner. Albert Cranston Sings Opera Part Taking the leading bass roll in the opera "Il Trovatore", Albert Cranston, well known local teacher of music and vocalist, sang last week in San Bernardino with the McDowell club. The one night performance was given before a capacity house. The audience was most receptive. The performance may be repeated in the near future. Mr. Cranston took the part of "Ferrando" and gave a splendid performance, his voice being particularly well suited to the role. The soprano lead of "Leonora" was sung by Charlotte Voerner of New York city; the baritone lead of "Count de Juna" by John Brownlee; the tenor lead of "Manrico" by Joseph Sullivan and the contralto role of "Azucena" by Clemence Gifford. The McDowell club, with its chorus of 50, was conducted by James Guthrie who is a well known opera conductor throughout the United States. Natalie Carossio was the stage director, having previously done many motion picture settings such as the opera settings in "Anthony Adverse". MAKES HOME HERE Miss Dorothy Ressler, niece of Mrs. Otto Clodt of this city, arrived here recently to make her home with her aunt and uncle, coming here from Owatonna, Minnesota. Under the direction of the Camp and Hospital corps of the Anaheim Red Cross, members of the Assistance League started a new service this week for members of the Los Alimitos Navy Base and between now and Christmas will be working each day at the base wrapping and mailing Christmas packages for the men. Mrs. Jefferson Rust, head of the Camp and Hospital corps, announced this week that the new service is proving most interesting to the women giving it and that the men are most appreciative of the "feminine touch" given to the presents they have purchased for their families, sweethearts and friends. The wrappings, tinsel and seals are provided by the base but the members of the Assistance League are working each day from 11:30 to 4:30 getting the packages ready for mailing. Preliminary work and arrangements were completed last Friday and Saturday when the Camp and Hospital corps and the Motor corps members went to the base. Mildred Fishback To Be Married Dec. 4 Concert Draws From Anaheim The second concert in the winter series of the Orange County Fine Arts concerts, given at the Santa Ana Union high school auditorium, was held last Saturday night and was attended by a large crowd from Anaheim. The famous Roth quartet, of three violins and one cello, were enthusiastically received by the large audience. This quartet has been playing together since 1928 and has already given over 1000 concerts. Among those attending from Anaheim were Dr. and Mrs. H. A. Tews, Dr. and Mrs. Edward Jordt, Mrs. Gene Frantz and daughter, Miss Gene Frantz, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Bruce, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Schumacher, Mrs. Ola Essary and daughter, Mrs. Kate E. McCullah, Miss Mildred Mauerhan and Miss Adah Louise Wilcox. The next concert will be given on Febrdary 21 by the Mia Slavenska Dance Ensemble and on March 28 Nelson Eddy, famous baritone will sing. Surprise Kitchen Shower Given Bride Elect Last Sunday An unusually attractive surprise kitchen shower was given for Miss Verna Groover of Orang last Sunday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Vernon Schulz of Lincoln avenue. Miss Groover is the bridge elect of William Wallace of the Lighter Than Air Base. The marriage will be consummated the coming Sunday at the Anaheim Zion Lutheran church. Following the opening of the many attractive yet practical give a delightful refreshment hour followed. Fishback of 824 North Olive street, left Wednesday for Douglas, Arizona, to become the bride, on Sunday, of A/C Dimitri Poradosky who will graduate from Douglas field on January 7. They will make their temporary home near there. Miss Fishback is well known in Anaheim having attended Anaheim schools and graduating from the Union high school in 1941 after which she attended Santa Ana Junior College. The bride-elect will be attended by Mrs. Gertrude Anderson of Douglas while Cadet Don Peterson will attend Cadet Poradosky. Miss Fishback will wear an attractive soft gold wool suit and with it brown accessories.
