This reputation has been earned and built on a policy of continuous advertising. In peace time when merchandise was plentiful our merchants advertised and customers came. Now Anaheim is in danger of losing her position as a trading center. Merchandise is scarce and customers are many. Because of this condition some of us are cutting our advertising. This failure to advertise is causing customers to turn to other centers which continue to keep the names of their merchants before the buying public. Even if stocks are low and selections limited we should continue to keep the name of Anaheim before the public and thus build "good will" against the day when merchandise will again be available. Everyone is familiar with the story of the Dodobird. Time was when the Dodo could fly with the best of the feathered flock. But in "dodo land" the food was plentiful. It lay on the ground where the Dodo could pick it up with a minimum of effort — so he ceased to fly. Failing to use his wings caused them to become weak and shrivelled and finally useless. From then on the Dodo ceased to be a flying bird. He deteriorated into a fat waddling biped of doubtful character. Let's not let ANAHEIM become a “DODO” among the trading centers.
