Many of the 250 acres of persimmons in Orange county are going to waste, it is feared. Mrs. Ronnberg has found that dried persimmons keep well and have a delicious flavor somewhat different than that of the fresh fruit. The fruit can be used in puddings especially well. Either a hot syrup blanche method or a sulphur treatment prepares the fruit for drying. Information on the process can be obtained from the gas company. D. A. R. Favorite Recipes Here are two one-egg cake recipes which go easy on other rai-tioned ingredients too. They are both simple and quick to make and prove to be popular with every member of the family. These should be the answer for that problem of something good to put in those lunches we are all packing for school or work. Devil's Food Cake 3 tablespoons of butter (or substitute). 1 Cup sugar. 1 egg. ½ cups flour. ¼ cup cocoa. 1 cup sour milk. 1 teaspoon soda. And a dash of cinnamon and vanilla to taste. White Cake ¼ cup shortening. 1 cup sugar. 1 egg. 1 teaspoon vanilla. 2 cups flour. ½ teaspoon salt. 3 teaspoons baking powder. 1 cup sweet milk. For both cakes: Cream butter and sugar together and add egg. Sift flour and other powder ingredients together and add to batter alternating with milk. Add vanilla. Bake in flat rectangle pan for 40 minutes in a 350 degree oven. We have offered our favorites, why don't you send in some of your specialties that save on rai-tion points? Any kind of dish that you have found to be a favorite at your house—and sign your name so we can tell everyone who to thank for something good. Twenty-five hundred of these women must come from Southern California to fill the quota- -100 of them coming from Orange county. Jobs in the Wac are varied, and there are all kinds to be filled. Women who are untrained will be taught trades and be paid while learning. Many going in at this CASUAL AS HER EMCEE ROLE is the favorite costume of CBS actress Mary ("Roma Show") Astor. The brown herringbone jacket, brown skirt and tailored white shirt coordinate one of the mix-and-match suit combinations that form the basis of an efficiently planned wardrobe. Two tone tweed effects bespeak the master craftsmanship which women have developed in the casual suit field during recent seasons. FLUENT FLATTERY UNAFFECTEDLY ROMANTIC is the contrast of sophisticated velvet and naive tulle in the youthful dancing frock of CBS actress Barbara ("Joyce Jordan, M.D.") Barton. Black velvet flowers appliqued on the tulle skirt give delicate detail over a powder blue taffeta slip.
