Gas Ration Books Will Be Sent Out By Mail
Motorists who glance ruefully at the fast diminishing tickets in their present basic gasoline ration books A and D, will be interested in learning that OPA has announced the plans of which such ration books may be renewed when the present time limit for use of the coupons is ended.
OPA has streamlined the procedure in order to eliminate another registration at school or ration board sites. Under the plan holders of either A or D ration books will secure the simple application from about the date of June 22, at service station or other conveniently located place designated by local ration boards. Such application forms are to be filled out and mailed to the local War Price and Rationing board together with the signed back cover of the present book, and the current tire inspection record showing that proper inspections have been made.
Boards will begin processing these applications as soon as they start coming in so that all new A books should be in the hands of motorists before July 21. Every motorist is advised to act promptly in filling out and mailing his application in order to be certain of getting his new A book by the time the present one expires.
The application form will be similar to that used for basic rations last year. It simply asks for the owner's name and address and a description of the vehicle which he drives, information that may be obtained from his registration card and tire inspection record.
Each application form will have attached a tire inspection record which the ration board will detach and return to the applicant with his A or D book. The record must be filled in with the tire serial numbers as in the first case, putting in new numbers as tires have been replaced. Any motorist who has not had at least one tire inspection by a qualified inspector, will be denied a renewal of his ration book.
HORSEPOWER PLUS
More than a million and a half horsepower in Diesel engines is being supplied by one of this nation's automotive companies to the U.S. Navy for its recently announced Destroyer Escort program, which will help overcome the menace of Axis submarines.

Please limit your call to 5 minutes. Others are waiting
EVEN with a war, we’d like to keep on giving you quick service on Long Distance calls.
Most of them go through all right but some routes are crowded—like the railroads.
When the circuit you want is extra busy, the operator will ask you to limit your Long Distance call to 5 minutes.
It won’t happen on all circuits, all the time. But when it does happen, we know you’ll understand why.
It will help to give the other fellow a chance. Tomorrow that other fellow may be you.

MONDAY
On these four days, most service men and war workers travel, and they must be served.
TUESDAY

THURSDAY
Other travelers should confine their essential trips to these three days only.
There are only so many buses and bus seats. Practically every seat is working day and night to carry vital war traffic and other passengers whose travel is essential to the nation's welfare.
Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays are the busiest. On these days there is little room on the buses for people whose travel isn't absolutely necessary.
Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays are the days on which we are better able to serve travelers whose business may not be directly connected with the war.
Even in mid-week, our frank advice is: If you can postpone or eliminate the journey, please do so.
And for those who must travel, we repeat three important suggestions, which, if followed, will aid the war effort by making conditions easier for all travelers.
WARTIME TRAVEL SUGGESTIONS
1. Consult your local Greybound agent well in advance so he can help you choose the least-crowded schedules.
2. Arrange trips whenever possible to go and return during mid-week rather than on week-ends.
3. Carry only the baggage that is absolutely necessary.
