A Little Of Everything District Deputy President Installs Lois Rebekah Lodge Officers Friday; Patriotic Colors, Songs Add to Program Mrs. Mary Edwards, district deputy president, officiated at the open installation ceremonies for officers of Lois Rebekah lodge here Friday evening. Aiding her were members from Ruby Rebekah lodge of Orange. TWO WEEKS VACATION Mrs. Claude Booth and her children of 904 North Palm street are staying two weeks at the beach. Mr. Booth will join them each evening. WITH RELATIVES Mr. and Mrs. D. D. Sharp of 416 South West street with their daughter, Helen, of Banning, and son, Milo, of Los Angeles spent the weekend at the Laguna Beach home of Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Corlett of Riverside, brother and sister-in-law of Mrs. Sharp. Also present were relatives from Riverside and Pasadena. MOUNTAIN VACATION Three Anaheim families spent their vacation in the mountains near Huntington Lake recently at the cabin being used by the Robert Smiths, formerly of Anaheim. They included Mr. and Mrs. John Mary and family; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Reafsnyder and daughter and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Troutman. The group also went to Mona Hot Springs before returning to Anaheim. The Smiths, who left here in December, plan to visit in Anaheim during the latter part of July. IN PINK FORMALS Mrs. Edwards and Mrs. Shell were gowned in pink embroidered formals and officers were in white formals. Escorting Mrs. Edwards into the lodge room were ten members from Orange: Miss Betty Swenson, Mrs. Jane Chandler, Miss June Ragsdale, Mrs. LaDella Gall, Miss Ella Williams, Mrs. Carmen Knight, Mrs. Avis Roy, Mrs. Virginia Jenkens, Mrs. Genelia Richardson, Mrs. Grace McKelvey. They were dressed in blue embroidered formals and carried silver fans. As a fitting finish to the ceremonies, the escorts formed a “V” and Mrs. Mildred Talbert, color bearer, presented the flag while “My Country 'Tis of Thee" was sung. Goddess of Liberty was Mrs. Ruby Lytle, who entered into the tableaux just as a soloist sang, "America the Beautiful." Richards-Martin Studio to Show Dutch Dance Twice Mrs. Lenoir Martin of the Richards-Martin Dance studio with several of her pupils will demonstrate the Dutch dance taken from her recently published book, “The Wise Old Mother Goose,” at the folk dancing class at the University of Southern California July 31st. The number was presented at the annual PTA Dance pageant held here in June and met with much success. Mrs. Martin has also been asked to teach the same number at the Associated Teachers of Southern California convention at Visitation Del Arroyo hotel in Pasadena August, 17. Students who participate include Tillie Sanchez, Diane Schroeder, Nancy Weimann and Bernice and Marilyn Haiggrove. The dance will be presented to Club Number One of the Dancing Masters of America. Naval Reserve Officer Visits Home This Week Dean Polhemus, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Polhemus of Placentia avenue, who has just returned from the University of Wisconsin where he is stationed with the Naval Reserve, was honored at USE CITY PARK Two organizations, former North Carolinans of Orange county and Warwick camp of the United Spanish War Veterans and Auxiliary, held their meetings in the Anaheim city park this week. The former North Carolinans enjoyed luncheon at noon Sunday while the Warwick camp had a potluck dinner Monday at 6 p.m. FROM YELLOWSTONE Virginia Lea Peterson of this city returned yesterday morning from Yellowstone park where she has been staying with a group of college students from Occidental since June 13. IN LOS ANGELES Mrs. Eldon Paddock of 820 North Dickel street is spending a few days with the Robert Bakers, formerly of this city, at their home in Los Angeles. VISITORS LEAVE Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Carr of Rock Springs, Wyoming, left Sunday for home after visiting a week with Mr. and Mrs. La Monte Webb of 520 North Olive street. IN AUSTRALIA Mrs. Roy N. Pollock of South Sunkist road received word from her sister in Austin, Minn., that her nephew, Everett White is stationed somewhere in Australia with the U.S. Army. He has been there since June 9. The Pollocks' son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Al Berth of this city have taken up a new residence in Buena Park. They are the parents of a seven-weeks old boy, Clifford. THREE NEW BABIES Three new babies were born to Anaheim residents last week. Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Howell of Route 4, Box 110 are the parents of a son, born at St. Joseph's Hospital; Mr. and Mrs. John White of 735 Claudina street also have a new son, born at Santa Ana Community hospital; and Mr. and Mrs. Chase Bowers of Route 4, Box 65 now have a daughter, born at Santa Ana Community hospital. CLOSE FRIENDS Misses Della Horn and Audrey Kruse presented the participants with gifts on behalf of the lodge for their splendid efforts. New officers for the local lodge are Mrs. Edna Kruse, noble grand; Mrs. Violet Howard, vice grand; Mrs. Berthyle Reisinger, recording secretary; Mrs. Elsie Borth, financial secretary; Mrs. Lizzie Nylen, treasurer; Mrs. Violet Thierfelder, warden; Mrs. Margie Vaughan, conductor; Mrs. Bessie Curtis, chaplain; Mrs. Maude Adams, musician; Mrs. Lola Compton, R.S.N.G.; Miss Barbara Myers, L.S.N.G.; Mrs. Ora Horn, R.S.V.G.; Mrs. Mildred Fitz, L.S.V.G.; Miss Adele Howard, inside guardian, and Mrs. Marie Cannon, outside guardian. Officers appointed by the noble grand for the next term are Clayton Allen, drill master; Mrs. Carrie Cummings, color bearer; Mrs. Maybelle Spencer, Mrs. Bonnie Miller, Mrs. Emma Hunton and Miss Anna Lampman, banner bearers. Patriotic colors decorated the IOOF hall, where installation was held. Refreshments of cake and coffee were served by Mrs. Eva Scutt and her refreshment committee. DISTINGUISHED GUESTS Distinguished guests present included Henry A. Mang, past grand patriarch of the Grand Encampment of California; R. D. Gillson, district deputy grand master of this district; Mrs. Mabel Ives, member of the Theta Rho board of control and adviser of Omega Chi, Theta Rho girls' club of Santa Ana. ORGAN STUDY Miss Ethel Campbell, Fremont school music instructor, has been studying since the end of the school term with Clarence Mader, organist at Emanuel Presbyterian church on Wilshire boulevard. Naval Reserve Officer Visits Home This Week Dean Polhemus, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Polhemus of Placeen avenue, who has just returned from the University of Wisconsin where he is stationed with the Naval Reserve, was honored at outdoor barbecue party Tuesday evening. Guests were Fred Weisel, Parker Markle, Bill Ross, B.Fowler, Bud Cram and Dean brother, Don. Dean is a petty officer in the reserve and has been stationed Wisconsin for nine months. His duties are as storekeeper at the radio school. He arrived here Monday and will stay a week. Myron Smith Given Farewell Party In a farewell party for Myron P. Smith of this city who lived on Monday for the army, employees of the Anaheim Gazette their families and friends, 23 in assembled at the Anaheim park for a ham dinner Friday evening. "Smitty," who has been managing editor of the Gazette for past eight months, was present with a group gift from the "garnish which was enough 'smokes'" keep him going for part of a duration. February Marriage Announced Recently The marriage of Miss Louise Watters of Anaheim John Harbour of Santa Ana February 28 was just announced this week by Mrs. Clara B.Wers of 125 East Alberta stranger mother of the bride. Mrs. Harbour is a graduate Garden Grove high school, San Ana junior college and Johns Business institute. She has been employed as stenographer by Mutual Citrus Products company of Anaheim. The bridegroom graduate of both Santa Ana high school and junior college. He now with the Army Air corps training school in Blythe. They are staying at the Biltmore hotel in Los Angeles and expect to visit here before returning to the north next week. AT BIG FALLS Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Fergus and son, Donald, of 419 North Emily street, spent two days last week at Big Falls. AT LAGUNA Miss Evelyn Brunworth and Miss Dora Yorde of Anaheim are at present enjoying a week at Laguna Beach. Mrs. Ernest Yorde, Mrs. Richard Gay and Mrs. Pauline Brunsworth were Sunday visitors of the pair at their apartment. FROM LOS ALAMITOS Mel Gledhill, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Gledhill of 411 North Emily street, was home over the weekend from his base at Los Alamitos. Visiting him was Don Harrison of Shepherd Field, Texas, who is training for the Army Air corps. He was formerly of Bell Vista and this was his first furlough since enlistment seven months ago. Another visitor in the Gledhill home was Miss Eva Baumgartel of Los Angeles, cousin of Mrs. Gledhill and daughter of Mrs. Frieda Baumgartel of 114 Stueckle street. She stayed with her mother six days and visited with the Gledhills frequently. ORGAN STUDY Miss Ethel Campbell, Fremont school music instructor, has been studying since the end of the school term with Clarence Mader, organist at Emanuel Presbyterian church on Wilshire boulevard. This week Mr. Mader is guest organist at the Bach festival at Carmel. Miss Campbell will resume her studies with him next week. Griffith of this city, the former Miss Vesta Newsom of Garden Grove, was feted with a post-nuptial shower last week at the home of Miss Velda Barnes in Garden Grove. Mrs. Griffith was married June 27. Co-hostesses with Miss Barnes were Mrs. Howard Barnes of Yucaipa, Mrs. Louis Metje of Banning, Mrs. Hubert Williamson of Riverside, Mrs. Len Wylie, Mrs. P. H. Prior and Miss Lova Holt, Garden Grove, all close friends of the honored guest. During the refreshment hour, ice cream molds centered with a wedding bell, white cake and coffee were served. Nina Harris Weds Delmar Pebley At Anaheim Church Anaheim Calvary Baptist church was the scene of the marriage of Miss Nina Harris of Ontario to Delmar Pebley of Anaheim Saturday evening with Rev. Earl R. Berg officiating. Miss Marjorie Clark Weds Walter Sanderson At Mission Inn Chapel Saturday; Plan To Make Home in San Bernardino Soon St. Francis chapel of the Mission Inn, Riverside, Saturday, July 11 will be the place and time long remembered by Miss Marjorie Clark, daughter of Mrs. Claudina Clark of Anaheim, and W. Carew Sanders, Jr., of San Bernardino, because it was then and since they were married. The bride was dressed in an ivory satin wedding gown with a long train veil. She carried a bridal bouquet of gardenias and Miss Gillilan Tells Of Betrothal to Anaheimer at Tea Mr. and Mrs. Leon T. Gillilan of Orange Grove avenue, Placentia, announced the engagement of their daughter, Katherine, to Jack William Suiter, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. K. Suiter of Brookhurst road, Anaheim, at a tea given last week in their home. The wedding will take place August 14 in Fullerton First Methodist church. Miss Gillilan, who graduated with the 1942 class of the University of Southern California, was honored at the tea by the presence of many guests. Among those present were Mrs. Suiter, mother of the bridegroom-elect; Mrs. R. J. McCray of Glendale, his sister, and Mrs. R. J. Gillilan of Ontario, grandmother of the prospective bride. The hostess was assisted in serving duties by her sister, Mrs. E. J. Denton of Los Angeles; Mr. Gillilan's sister, Mrs. Albert Holmer of Ontario; Mrs. Frank Rospaw of Placentia, and Mrs. A. A. Arnold of Fullerton. Mrs. Arnold's small daughter, Adrienne, passed white bouvardia. Mrs. J. Walker, jr., her sister, was iron-of-honor and wore a blue satin gown styled with sweetheart neckline and matte halo hat. Her bouquet w roses and delphinium. The attendant was Mrs. Clyde D. the bride's cousin. She gowned in the same mode as matron-of-honor and carried old fashioned bouquet of peas and delphinium. Earl R. Berg officiating. The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Harris of Hydro, Okla., was dressed in white crepe with blue accessories and carried gardenias and sweet peas. She is a graduate of Oklahoma schools and was employed before her marriage with the General Electric company in Ontario. Mr. Pebley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Luther Pebley of Weatherford, Okla., has been living at 1218 Lincoln avenue. He attended school in Wetherford and is now employed at the Douglas Aircraft. Guests at the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Harris; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Winsor and son; Mr. and Mrs. Lester Harris and son; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Thiessen; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Reynolds; Mr. and Mrs. Mack White; Mrs. Maggie Pebley; Mrs. Walter Jungeit. The couple are now at home at 335 West North street. MAKE RECORDING Mr. and Mrs. Claude Smith and family of Orange avenue were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Dale of Los Angeles, cousins of the Smiths. Following dinner, the group made a visit at the White Memorial hospital, where Mr. Dale is head technician. Mrs. Smith played the large organ there and with her daughters, Wilma and Bonnie Mae, who sang duets, she made a recording. Dick-Tietjen Bridal News Received Here News was received today of the marriage of Viola Dick, daughter of Mrs. D. L. Dick of Fullerton, to Robert Tietjen, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. Tietjen of Anaheim at Yuma, Ariz., July 12. Rev. J. C. Bobb officiated at the ceremony. Witnesses were Mrs. Grace Tietjen of Anaheim, sister of the bridegroom, and Bud Wycoff of Santa Ana.
