Anaheim Club Leaders Attend State Federation Meeting at Santa Barbara Mrs. Cortez Hoskins, president of the local Ebell club, Mrs. S. K. Watters, president of Las Amigas club and Miss Catherine McCullah, president of the Junior Ebell club of Anaheim were present at the annual state convention of Federated Women's clubs last week at Santa Barbara. Approximately 468 women from all over the state attended the many panel discussions held at the Lobero theater in the northern city. The theme for the entire convention was "Future of America—Depends on Me." A joint meeting of the Junior Ebell and Senior Ebell delegates was held Friday night. During the week the women heard from leading educators from California universities. Dr. Charles S. Bouga spoke on "Chaos and Order" and pointed out that order comes from chaos and that a better world will result from the war. CLERGYMAN SPEAKS Dr. Clarence Reidenbach, minister of the First Congregational church of Oakland, spoke on "Conscience, Courage and Country." He said that we must have courage and prepare for the future peace; we must accept our responsibility and prepare during war for the peace; and not to give away to hatred that would deter the effective establishment and planning of a satisfactory world peace. Another speaker was Dr. E. O. Watts whose topic was "Who Are Our Enemies." He stressed the importance of markets in the world that will follow the war. He stated that in order for America to be economically sound, she must develop her world markets and export more than she has in the past. MUSICAL INTERLUDE A musical interlude was presented Thursday night, featuring the Mission String Trio from San Gabriel Valley. A former Anaheim girl, Mrs. Virginia Long Boardman, was pianist for the group. Dr. Graham Stuart of Stanford talked on "Making the Good Neighbor Policy Work." He urged that we work toward greater friendliness to South America to make our policy work better than it is now. FINAL PANEL The final panel was given Friday afternoon when Father Vincent C. Donovan spoke on "Womanhood and Human Solidarity." Mrs. Hoskins returned Friday night, Mrs. Watters came home Friday and Miss McCullah stayed until Saturday. Many other county women's club leaders attended the session. “Miss Mary Wood” Takes a Trip at Campus Style Show Given by Seniors Saturday Following Miss Mary Wood in her travels throughout the "Miss Mary Wood” Takes a Trip at Campus Style Show Given by Seniors Saturday Following Miss Mary Wood in her travels throughout the United States in a fashion revue was a delightful experience last Saturday afternoon when the seniors of Marywood high school presented a style show to Anaheim women. The Mary Millerick shop supervised and supplied the wearing apparel used. The novel idea of a tour over America on the part of “Miss Mary Wood” was originated by Betty Fluor, senior student, who was the narrator during the revue. Lovely young models were Dawn Baker, Margaret Farabough, Marjorie Nyboe, Audree Maduell, Dora Osterkamp, Rita Patin and Anna Marie Steichen. Snappy suits, cool frocks, filmy evening gowns and all-occasion dresses were featured in the show, enjoyed by about 250 women. The setting was the lovely grass yard of the school. Models entered from the school building where string music by high school musicians was heard. Miss Fluor described each costume and told where “Miss Mary Wood” was going and what would be doing there as the girl descended the steps. She started from Los Angeles by train in a brown plaid suit and from then on saw America while wearing a stunning array of new fashions. Refreshments of punch and cake were served by members of the senior class, under the chairmanship of Lyla Burrows. Class colors of white and gold were displayed on the tea table in the corner of the yard. Save Cosmetics Now To Stop Future Rationing Conservation of natural resources has been advocated for a long time but the conservation of cosmetics, the thing that makes women look better than natural, is new to Americans. It is reported that in England cosmetics are as precious as diamonds. Here we still have more than enough for everyone, but we must learn to conserve what we have so that it won't be necessary to ration lipsticks, powder or cream in the future. SOME SUGGESTIONS Here are some suggestions: If you buy large jars of face cream, sterilize a small jar and keep a week's supply on your dressing table, and store the rest in a cool place. Keep the outside of your container clean, for sticky jars collect dirt and rancidity, and your fingers transfer the grime and rancid oils to your face. STRONG LIGHT Strong light is damaging to perfume and alters their fragrance, so keep perfume in a dark, cool place. Learn to apply your lip-stick with a brush, so that you may be able to use every speck of rouge in the stick. Press, rather than pat, powder over your face and smooth with the puff. You'll be surprised how much longer a box will last. CHURCH ANNIVERSARY In celebration of its 69th anniversary, the St. Michael's Episcopal church held special services Sunday and Monday with Rev. D. Howard Dow, Rector, officiating. Rev. Robert B. Gooden of Los Angeles was a special guest at a 10:30 service Sunday. Monday evening an anniversary dinner was given in the parish house. Rev Wesley Havermale, rector from Santa Ana, was the speaker. calaureate services in the University chapel at 11 a.m. when Dr. C. O. Johnson of St. Louis, Mo., will speak. Dinner for seniors and their parents will follow the morning exercises in the Commons at 1 p.m. President and Mrs. Elam J. Anderson will entertain seniors and guests at tea in their home at 7 p.m. A graduate from Anaheim high school, Miss Schacht is president of Delta Kappa Psi sorority. Last year she served as vice president of the junior class. As a sophomore she was president of the Spurs, "No News Is Good," US Navy Counsels The oft repeated statement that "No news is good news" was issued again today by the Navy department following receipt of many letters expressing worry as to the safety of friends and relatives on duty with the fleet. Pointing out that great distances involved in operations of ships naturally cause many delays in correspondence, the department, in response to many such letters received recently, said that such delays should not be considered serious.
