Garden Wedding Rites Join Swain-Lewellen Families In the traditional wedding gown—white chiffon with lace leg o'mutton sleeves and yoke, a sweetheart neck and a full skirt and train—Miss Bernice Lewellen of Orange, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Lewellen of Anaheim, was married Sunday afternoon in the garden of Capilla de San Antonio to John Swain, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Swain of 919 East Center street. Rev. J. W. Henry of the Anaheim Church of the Nazarene officiated at the lovely ceremony. Large bouquets of larkspur, gladiola, stocks and calla lilies decorated the nuptial place. CASCADE BOUQUET The bride wore a locket given to her by her bridegroom and carried a beautiful cascade bouquet of roses and bouvardia. Her matron of honor, Mrs. Joe Hinricks, sister, was dressed in a blue marquisette gown with a matching garden hat and carried a colonial bouquet of pink roses and ranunculi. Bridesmaids were Miss Bernice Swain, sister of the bridegroom, in pink marquisette; Mrs. Hazel Washbun in blue green marquisette; Mrs. Gordon Preston in light yellow marquisette. They all wore garlands in their hair to match their colonial bouquets. BEST MAN The best man was John Minogue and ushers were Lonnie McManners, Hale McClellan and Sonny Collins. A reception followed in the chapel garden after the nuptial vows. ORANGE GRADUATE The former Miss Lewellen is a graduate of Orange high school and Fullerton junior college. Her bridegroom attended Anaheim schools and is now employed at Vultee aircraft corporation. They will make their home at 620 West Chapman avenue in Orange. Campbell Pupils Presented In Recital Here Friday; Varied Program Given Miss W. Ethel Campbell presented several of her students in an evening recital Friday at her home on North Clementine street. A varied program was presented. Miss Elaine Newton, ROBERT LARSEN SELECTED ON USC COMMITTEE Robert Larsen, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Larsen of 510 South Indiana street, has been named to a student welcoming committee for the fourteenth annual high school senior and junior college Advisement Day at the University of Southern California Saturday, May 2. The program is devised as a conference for junior college, preparatory and high school students, making available to them special consultation facilities with college and departmental faculties, together with scientific educational exhibits. President of the university, Dr. Rufus B. von KleinSmid will speak on "University Education in War Time" at the morning assembly. Panels of military, professional, university and student authorities will aid in the discussion of problems of military service, partial employment, fraternities, extracurricular activities, physical fitness program, sororities, war service for women and other problems. There will also be conferences with individual advisers, a complimentary luncheon, campus tours and visitations, open house at the fraternities and sororities and the presentation of the university play, "Stage Door." A varied program was presented. Miss Elaine Newton, dressed in an attractive pale green organdie formal with pink trim ah da white corsage of lilies and raunculas, played three piano solos, "Minuet" by Bach, "Country Gardens" by Granger-Williams and "Climbing" by MacLashlan. Her pieces were played easily and with much expression. CLARINET SOLOS Next was Bob Williams with two clarinet solos, offered with excellent phrasing, "At Pierrot's Door," a French folk song and "Marines' Hymn," an American fold song. PIANO DUET A well-coordinated piano duet number was given by Elaine Newton and Beverly Wagner, "Amaryllis" by Ghys. Miss Wagner was dressed in rose taffeta with a corsage of white renunculas. Following the duet was a trio of violinist Elaine Newton, clarinetist Bob Williams and pianist Beverly Wagner, with a number entitled "El Rancho Grande" by Urango. PLAYED PIANO Selections from "Il Trovatore" were played on the piano by Miss Wagner and Miss Campbell. Miss Newton played a violin solo with Miss Wagner, accompanist, theme from "Concerto in B Flat Minor" by Tschaikowsky. One of the outstanding numbers on the program was "The Swallow" rendered by Miss Wagner at the piano. She also played in this group "Minuet in G" by Beethoven. TWO SOLOS Two violin solos by Miss Newton completed the recital, "Melody in F" and "Ave Maria," given with excellent poise. Miss Campbell received in a rose chiffon formal with a white corsage of tiny lilies and white lilacs. Refreshments were served by Kathryn Campbell assisted by Dickie Graham, Anna Mae Bath and Mildred Bethel. VOCAL TRIO A trio composed of Misses Graham, Bethel and Wagner entertained with vocal trio numbers informally during the social hour. Anaheim Lovelies Fashion Show Models Among 29 lovely Fullerton junior college coeds who modeled the latest in women's wear, costumes representing all the United Nations, and uniforms of women’s defense organizations, at a recent campus fashion show, were five Anaheim girls, according to the college Associated Women students today. Anaheim students participating in th show were the Misses Wilhelmina Schulz, Jackie Murphy, Rose Mirande, Millie Dakovich, and Betty Naffziger. MRS. ANN RUSH HONORS NIECE AT PARTY SATURDAY Mrs. Anna A. Rush honored her niece, Miss Ruth Winifred Perry, with a lovely miscellaneous bride's shower at her home on North Lemon street Saturday afternoon. Miss Perry is the bridge-elect of Marshal Nelson McFie of Anaheim. The evening was spent in conversation about the wedding scheduled for May 23 at the Anaheim Church of Christ. Miss Perry opened her gifts before the refreshment hour began. SPRING BLOSSOMS Bowls of spring blossoms—gladioli, roses and cactus—decorated the home. On the guest list and sharing the pleasures of the evening were Mrs. Winnie Perry, mother of the bridegroom-to-be; Mrs. Nannie Perry, grandmother of the honored guest; Mesdames Ruby Asper, Julia Sunstrom, Ruth Doepke, Ellen McCellan, Maria Adams, Deva Phipps, Etta Nemetz, Eula Dyer, all of Anaheim. PLEASANT WEEKEND Mr. and Mrs. Ted Masterson with friends, Mr. and Mrs. Marion Spencer, and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Tillery spent a recent weekend at San Clemente and stayed at the home of Col. Harry F. Center Anaheim 3115 Anaheim Gardeners To Parade Specimens In Ebell Club Flower Show Here May 1, 2 Anaheim flower gardeners will parade their specimens at the annual flower show sponsored by the Ebell club of Anaheim to be given at the clubhouse May 1 and 2. Mrs. George Greder, leader of the Garden section and chairman of the annual event, announced the rules of the show this week. AMATEUR GROWN All flowers entered for competition must be amateur grown and arranged; all entries must be in place by 10 a.m., May 1; judging will take place before opening of the show at 2 p.m., May 1; flowers entered for award must be in containers unless otherwise specified in the classifications; the management will not be responsible for containers; roses will be judged by the rules of the American Rose Society; school displays will be judged on attractiveness and interest; woman's clubs arrangement of flowers will be judged on color combination and arrangement. CLASSIFICATIONS Classifications include section A, roses; Section B, sweet peas; section C, annuals and perennials; section D, bulbs; section E of camelias, gardenias, orchids and others; section F, cacti and succulents; section G, flower arrangement; section H, miniature; section I, miscellaneous; section J, men's division; section K, new and will be given to the three best exhibits in each class. Highlighting the day's entertainment was the appearance of Maurine Summers, starlet under contract to Howard Hughes, who participated in as aid to Professor Puzzlewhiz, the quiz masters who offered prizes to visitors to the form of defense stamps.
