Problem of Translating Resources Confronts War Board; Civilians To Have Less So Armed Forces May Have More
Confronting the war administration in Washington, D.C., today is the huge problem of transplanting the products of mine, farm, and factory into finished military instruments.
According to federal estimates, the nation produces nearly half the world's supply of raw materials and regularly consumes as much as the rest of the world combined.
CLEAR SUPERIORITY
In considering the facts, the clear superiority of US raw materials is apparent, according to government officials.
The US produces a third of the world's iron ore, more than 40 per cent of its iron and steel, 25 per cent of its coal and two-thirds of its oil.
COPPER-ZINC
From the nation's mines come 37 per cent of the copper, 29 per cent of the zinc, and 24 per cent of the lead in the world.
Other nations of the western hemisphere provide us with additional stores, it was pointed out, with Canada producing 85 per cent of the world's nickel. Chile sends large quantities of copper. Brazil supplies all our quartz, and Argentina is a tremendous source of bides.
BOLIVIAN TAN
Bolivia sends us tin ore and 60 per cent of our bides.
Air Raid Rules For Hard of Hearing
For protection of the hard-of hearing during an air raid, the following instructions have been issued by OCD:
1. Follow carefully all instruction issued by the local Office of Civilian Defense.
2. Wear your hearing aid, and listen to the radio.
3. Cooperate with your air raid warden in taking census of the hearing-handicapped.
4. If you cannot hear doorbells or telephone bells, install signal lights so you can be reached in emergency.
5. Leave pass keys to your room, apartment or home with two or more nearby neighbors.
6. Make arrangements with two or more persons to be responsible for waring you in case of emergency.
Concerned with the welfare of those with impaired hearing, the OPA this week asked manufacturers of electric hearing-aid devices not to increase their prices above these of October 15, 1941.
BETA SIGMA PHI
Members of the Delta Sigma Phi went to Los Angeles to the name of Miss Jean McKinley last Saturday and were on holiday with a Vanguard minute appraisal.
Cicilians will have less access to the armed forces may have more.
This became increasingly apparent today as the War Production Board and the OPAC took restrictive action on materials and commodities. Restoration of tires and automobiles already effective; sugar is next Aluminum is subject to further restrictions.
Additional bans have been placed on rubber so that in the future the following can only be made from reclaimed rubber: bathing suits and caps, erasers, toys and novelties; lawn and garden hoses; heels for shoes; household aprons; golf and tennis balls and other sporting goods; all products sponge rubber, and other non-essential items.
Consumption of wool has been sharply curtailed and sharp reduction has been ordered in production of radio sets, phonographs and radio-phonographs.
CELLOPHANE RRESTRICTED
Restriction of the use of cellophane has been extended.
Manufacturers have been ordered to curtail production of tins for baking powder, beer, biscuits, candy, coffee, dog food and many other products.
Other nations of the western hemisphere provide us with additional stores, it was pointed out, with Canada producing 85 per cent of the world's nickel. Chile sends large quantities of copper. Brazil supplies all our quartz, and Argentina is a tremendous source of bides.
BOLIVIAN TIN
Bolivia sells us tin ore and 60 per cent of our big pile comes from Dután Orgona. Itsico supplier produces.
These materials depend on other parts of the world are tin, rubber, chrome, lumber, zinc, splittings, graphite, burial, jute, palm and cocoanut oils, manganese cork, asbestos, cadmium, and a score of lesser materials.
MUST SUBSTITUTE
These, it was stated, are the materials which the nation will have to substitute for, prorate, or do without.

Greater Anaheim Buys New Stocks
Purchasers of the stock of the Empire grocery in Santa Ana, largest individual grocery line in Orange county, Greater Anaheim Market today offered patrons in the city what is probably the largest selection of foodstuffs available in the district. Their Anaheim store has been remodeled to make room for the added merchandise.
According to Merritt Hagan, owner of the Greater Anaheim store: "The merchandise was purchased at a price much lower than it can be bought for today. The saving will be passed on to the customers of Greater Anaheim."

Failure of C.-A. Committees administering Federal Marketing Order to agree on orderly shipping requires drastic action by the growers themselves.
Orange growers are now selling fruit at a loss. The prices are far below last year's figure. Prices must rise materially or many growers will go broke.
Now why are you getting such low prices?
There’s just one real answer. Since discontinuance of orderly regulation of shipments on December 6 there has been haphazard and in some weeks excessive movement of fruit by ALL California-Arizona shippers combined. And since December 6 certain members of the Distribution and Growers Advisory Committees of the C.-A. have refused to vote for any regulation of shipments and have left all shippers out on a limb as to how much fruit would be shipped.
Up to discontinuance of regulation, prices were above a year ago.
After discontinuance of regulation, prices started down. During the past they declined at an alarming rate below the average cost of production.
And last week, in spite of these prices, these men on the C.-A. (except C. M. Brown, who again refused to vote for regulations which would improve our
HERE’S WHAT TO DO
No matter what your prevailing about regulation, there’s one thing these prices and it must be taken into account. These members of the C.-A. must be requested by YOU toVOID shipments in the only legal way under the marketing order.
See in person these Committees who, since the week ending here, have not voted for any regulation.
Official government records show the Exchange has shipped less its share of the total orange shipments that have caused these prices. Rumors to the contrary result entirely from attempts to cover the basic issue now at stake within the industry.

If your kite should catch in a power line, do not pull it or climb up to get it down yourself. Telephone the company owning the line and someone will come to get your kite for you safely. Here are the complete safety rules for flying kites:
1. Fly your kite in an open field, away from power lines.
2. Never use wire, tinsel or metallic string.
3. Be sure the cord is perfectly dry.
4. If your kite catches in a power line, let go. Don't pull! Phone the company owning the line and a lineman will come to get your kite for you.
